For a while now, we’ve been wanting to meet the Doodle team and learn more about how they make the Google doodles, so we were super excited to meet animator and doodler Olivia, to hear how she created the Lotte Reiniger doodle to celebrate her 117th birthday on June 2nd.

Thank you Lotte Reiniger for your contribution to the filming arts!
I still cry when I see that doodle because is so beautiful. Wish there was an extended soundtrack.
Im doing an essay at uni about Lotte and her work, thank you for making this! 😊
I was privileged to know Lotte from the early 1970s, when she lived at the Abbey Arts Centre in New Barnet, North London, where she had a studio, until her death at the age aged 82 on June 19, 1981. You can meet Lotte in her studio in this short film below: kzread.info/dash/bejne/haqt0ZKDcbSWj5c.html We used to have lunch and supper together on many occasions at her home. In 1976 we travelled to Montreal, where the gifted Canadian film producer/entrepreneur Gordon Martin ran a brilliant animation workshop in Lotte's honour. It was a wonderful experience, like 'Travel's with my Aunt'. Gordon's lovely wife, Pat, later worked with Lotte on a new silhouette film - Lotte's first film for many years, called "Aucassin and Nicolette" - in association with National Film Board of Canada. Lotte's black and white films, often set to Mozart concertos, were a charm and delight which will take you back to the lost age of innocence. She was unique and thanks to Nat and Lo and Google for sharing this memory and tribute.
I remember loving watching Lotte's films on television when I was a child. But also remember finding them slightly scary at the same time. Love the Doodle though - thank you Olivia!
Olivia When, you're an inspiration.
oh that's amazing.. and there are still Lottes all around the world. you're wonderful Olivia!!
Why make it so difficult to praise the Google doodler who did this and the woman who inspired her? Bravo ladies!
Rig was operated by her HUSBAND (not someone). I found this IMPORTANT information out and I am just finding out about Lotte. Great you are putting Lotte out there but make sure the information is also properly presented (as they were a team until his passing). This work is intense so Beautiful but worth it. Thank you for presenting this vlog and the google person.
as a German Im so happy to hear about her. I love animation and its so great to see her impact on it.
Olivias work looks so much fun !!
That was a very beautiful homage. Im sure that if theres an afterlife lotte is smiling on this girl artistry.
Fantastic artwork !! Bravo to the doodle team ! And thanks to make me discover Lotte !
Somewhere in the world, at midnight, still pondering any future, is being inspired by you. Thanks dear...

I sure learned about lotte. I was also very curious about the meaning of the story. Thanks!
I had no idea. Amazing stuff! Thanks for sharing
THIS IS SO COOOOL
Actually... I really love how you end many of your videos with random stuff and cut paper. It has inspired me and I filmed a video-card for my boyfriend at the time in that style. Not stop motion but still really beautiful.
thanks to Olivia for making the doodle. I like it very much! Rsgole.
luv it! much inspiration!
The first (known) animated feature film, El Apostle, was made by Quirico Cristiani in Argentina in 1917. Although no prints seemed to have survived, there is a good documentary on Cristiani, Quirico Cristiani - The Mystery of the First Animated Movies
this is wonderful :D
Very cool! thanks for sharing :)
Really nice! Thank you so much!
I love lotte reiniger movie^^
How come all these celebrities get doodles, but on Memorial Day there is only a ribbon below the Google logo?

Later in the summer we hope to make another episode about the Doodle team and answer a lot more questions. For now check out a few answers to some common questions here: www.google.com/doodles/about
i think its awesome. how they invent new google signs 2 thumbs up
What program was being used at 3:18. Great video BTW very cool and great message.
good job!
it is Amazing to see how google employees work wow its Interesting
Seriously...The Google Doodle "team" takes a room full of people. Seriously. Full time employment with "The Google Doodle Team" = Ultimate Dream Job for people with doctorate degrees in Modern Art. If I were a manager with Google, this would be a $5 per week job. But since I am not...there is actually a "full time team" of "Google Doodlers". AMAZING this world we live in. Amazing...
I was wondering about the PC/Program that is being drawn on at 0:22. Thanks for any information. Something like this would be great for my children ;-)
I enjoy this and its amazing how things work
