They were also the last club to win the Scottish cup with an all Scottish team of players (1987).

Great video! I'm a St Mirren fan myself and it was good to see an insight from someone from the outside. It's a shame you never had the opportunity to get inside the new ground. Across from the builders JW grant on Love St is where the stadium used to be. From that corner all the way up to that road you turned left on to. You walked by the new housing estate on the main road where the stadium once stood.its stretches the whole length back where the stadium once stood. The street names in that housing estate are named after club legends such as Fitzpatrick, Yardley, McGarry and Abercrombie.

Sam, you were literally walking through the grounds of the stadium in your opening shot. The houses are built on the old stadium

A Scottish friend of mine once told me that Saint Mirren was the patron saint of weavers, and that Paisley was a major textile producing town (hence the name!). I presume that the 'paisley' design also derives from the city.

I went to see Rangers playing St.Mirren in 1968 at Love Street with my oldest brother. I remember there was a lot of snow on the ground and they played with an orange ball. St. Mirren won 1-0. I remember the crowd was huge, and my older brother put me on his shoulders to see the game.

St Mirren's golden era was in the 1980s when they finished in the top 6, seven or eight seasons in a row. Since then they have never once finished that high, so this could be the first time in 35 years that St Mirren get in to the top 6 and the first time ever to finish in the top half since the introduction of the split in 2000.

@@keanieboy7316 They are a mix of both I think. Their strength was in defence at Celtic Park at least but they did keep 2 strikers on the park.

Another great video Sam. . Alex Ferguson presented the medals when my school team reached the U-13 Renfrewshire Cup when he was manager at St. Mirren when we played the final at Love Street .He took the crowds from 1800 to 19000 when he was there winning promotion

I think if I remember correctly, the day you recorded this might have been a weekend? I only remember because I went out a walk and walked past the stadium and I think it might have been yourself I saw walking just outside the air dome. If it was yourself, I would've said Hello but it was a cold day and didn't want to interrupt. good videos none the less.

Being originally from Elderslie just 15 mins drive from Paisley I can tell you Saint Mirren's old ground was could Saint Mirren Park officially but much like Hibernian playing at Easter Road Stadium people just simply referred to The Old Saint Mirren Park buy the name of the Street the Football Park was on Love Street. Saint Mirren Park ( Love Street ) was directly opposite J.W Grant's builders yard. Glasgow Tigers Speedway team used to us The Old Love Street Ground back in the 80's

@@FootyAdventures It did change a lot over the years The Caladonian Road Stand was not all that old when Saint Mirren moved to The New Saint Mirren Park on Greenhill Road. The Caladonian Road Stand was the away end at Love Street. The Caladonian Bowling club suffered Financialy after Saint Mirren moved as it was a popular watering hole as they say for fans on match days. The main stand had some wooden seats much like is still the case at Brunton Park & Goodison Park it had personality you could say. I have only ever been to The New Saint Mirren Park once for a Scotland VS Belarus under 21 International & it just feels like a cookie cutter Stadium as the Americans would say no different to a lot of modern Stadiums of its size nothing unic about it unlike Love Street. I would like you to do an in depth vlog on The Vienna Cup it was a invitational tournament that was a predecessor of The European Cup it was held before The First World War. You could do an in depth vlog on The history of Bonnyrigg Rose how where a massive Junior club in the East of Scotland but now play in the Lowland League. It must be so difficult to find content for a football vlog at this point in time Sam. Keep Safe.

Nearly right on the speedway. It was the Paisley Lions not Glasgow Tigers and it was in the 70's.

After St Etienne knocked St Mirren out of the UEFA Cup second round in 1980/81, Ipswich then Knocked St Etienne out in the Quarter final, on the way to winning the trophy, beating them 1:4 in France.They were the top French side at the time and had Johnny Rep, Michel Platini and four other French internationals playing for them , but Ipswich had 10 internationals playing for them including the Scottish internationals George Burley, John Wark and Alan Brazil ⚽️🔵⚪

Dunfermline would be a good club to look into. They had one of their greatest periods in the 1960s and should have achieved a lot more.

The official name of the stadium in Love Street was St Mirren Park. The new stadium is also named St Mirren Park.

I was wondering if you’ve done one on Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale F.C? They are famous for the amount of professional footballers that have come through their youth academy

The old st mirren ground was on the corner of Love street and Albion Street. What basically separates the old ground from the new ground is the length of Murray Street.

If you go on google maps street view and go onto where Springbank Road goes right up to North Bank, you can see the old ground mate 👍🏻

You should defiently check out Shotts Bon Accord. Great wee club with a good history (largest pitch in Scotland)

U were literally on the old stadiums pitch at the start of the video all the streets were named after legends and st mirren related things. You should maybe try and do a video of another paisley team that used to be quite big they were called aberncorn fc

Not really, he was going to Aberdeen regardless and there are allegations that he was persuading players to go with him. We actually had our highest league finish two years after he left and all the European adventures came after him.
