New episode in our series dedicated to the history of the big names of watchmaking and today we'll go over one of its most illustrious representative: Patek Philippe.
It’s a multimillion dollar company that’s run as an independent family business; a worldwide name that only makes 50,000 watches every year and a brand that is stepped in history but that still pushes the envelope in terms of technological advances. TheWATCHES.tv charts the amazing and at times complex history of Patek Philippe, from the Rio-based retailer that kickstarted its wristwatch business through the post-war slump and Stern acquisition to its auction-house success, its grand exhibitions and the new adventures in silicon that point to its future.
With such an impressive and rich history we could have easily produced a 2-hour long documentary, but went for a rather condensed version. Enjoy!

I, for one, always enjoy your news about Patek. Thanks.
These historical programs are really superb. Nobody else can do it like you Marc, the production value is broadcast TV level or higher! At one point you say “I hope it’s not too dense...” NO WAY! It’s exactly what watch lovers adore: history! But you are also doing real commentary about the corporate side of things, which is so interesting and really makes us feel like we are encountering another level of devotion. Thank you
Great work!

Nice video Marc that's what Patek is all About, and Course History Speaks for its Brand. PATEK, JLC, BREITLING, OMEGA my Collection and Favourite brands. Alan
What a great Patek class Marc! Thanks a lot for that. Even though there have been amazing watch brands along the high horology history it's hard deny Patek unique position in the whole ecosystem. Not only due to the quality of its timepieces but most importantly due to the values the company is driven: consistency, true collectors appreciation, respect for their history and innovation just to name a few. Yes, if there is a king in the watch industry Patek certainly gets the crown in my humble opinion. Best, Amintas

Wow.... Great video as always, marc! By the way, are there any chances that you know how to apply for the horlogerie school at the patek? Was it based on scholarship and are they could accept the international student that starting from zero? Thank you so much! 😄. I'm glad that I still could follow your videos around until now, from those good old days thetime.tv to this! Great job! 😄

Giovani Altelino : you could be more than 20 yrs too late, that’s when the last time a Taiwan tourist found a nice pocket watch for a few hundred $...!
the art of watchmaker-the first watches both on auctions -it's a big buisness of vintage patek philipp watch-very beautifol & expensine
So basically Patek was first made in Rio de Janeiro? WOW, something i learned today!
A lot of information to take in, but very interesting nonetheless.
Absolutely fantastic video. Patek obviously make some gorgeous watches but to be honest I don't like the arrogant attitude of the brand. They charge whatever they want just because they are Patek and people buy the watches anyway. And let's face it Pateks are neither the best finished watches (Lange is arguably better, Greubel Foresy is objectively better) nor exclusive (over 50.000 watches a year is a gigantic number for the high end luxury market).

On their little planet ;)
Wow , you read this or memorized all this? Impressive all the same ,
Cool
This is wise of PP to work on expansion and training future generation. It is at risk however of becoming less relevant in the future given its scarcity. I was born in 1972 and I am from a generation that is still able to be patient. I saved money, carefully purchased, and patiently waited for a few years to be able to buy difficult watches to purchase such as ceramic Daytonas and a “Hulk” submariner. Younger generations are used to acquiring things more immediately. Waiting decades (or never) for examples such as the steel Nautilus or even the Aquanaut will make younger generations stick to their Apple watches. PP has again been advised of this inevitable dilemma.
u look amazing marc
