Who's Next to Get the Loch Ness Overhaul?

Loch Ness Monster just got a major overhaul from Premier Rides - new track, new profiling, new theming, giving new life to this beloved old Arrow looper. Assuming this works, who else might be getting the same treatment? Let's count down the top 15 options, all the way to the MOST likely one in my opinion.

I think Cedar Point's Corkscrew should be pretty high on this list. During Top Thrill 2 preview, Corkscrew and Magnum were the only other coasters open and there were many Corkscrew trains less than half full. I think CP wants to keep it for the iconic corkscrews over the pathway and it's always been a nice coaster to bridge between the kiddie rides and the huge extreme thrill coasters. I'd like to see the original train, but would love if the could somehow rework the seat and restraint.

I'm mixed on it. I feel like they've been holding onto it for the history and the iconic corkscrew over the midway. But it's also had low attendance for at least 20 years. If it had a more valuable plot of land, I don't think it would've lasted as long as it has. I don't think they'll scrap it unless the right coaster project comes along, but with CP, it'll always come to that because of space limitations

While not specifically Premier Rides specific, I'd love to see ideas on plusing up the presentation on these rides as well. I like the thematic additions to Loch Ness Monster. They really add to the experience and show that there park really cares about this legacy. I think any of these rides with some retracking and some thematic surprises would really be fun. Desperado having more cowboy stuff. Big Apple Coaster with the roof tops decorated to look like a big city. Dragon Mountain with an enclosed tunnel for three helix. I mean, the Loch Ness Monster idea would fit pretty well there. Or they could just make it a cave. Blue Hawk might benefit with some water features like a fountain or even rock work with a water fall. I'm sure there are plenty of things they could do to really sell the idea of the upgrades.

For what it's worth since you mentioned Premier trains for Magnum, Premier could very easily just build new Arrow-spec trains like they did for Trailblazer at Hershey in the early 2000s or like S&S did for Lochness Monster a few years ago. Honestly insurance and lawyers would dictate that more these days.

It is by no means a good ride, but it has a wonderful cushion on the back that makes the experience way more pleasant. As long as it stays there, my top pick would be Viper. A retrack would bring people away from X2 and shorten the lines because Viper is actually really good, even now.

I don't know, Anaconda feels a little dubious to me. It's not that popular, especially compared to something like Nessie, which is absolutely adored by the same area that Anaconda is in. (Remember, Loch Ness is an ACE landmark and maybe the most famous coaster in the area) It's layout is also not particularly good. Maybe they'll give it new trains, but even a retrack feels like a stretch, let alone a proper refurbishment. The only reason I think they even keep it around is because it would be so hard to fill its plot with something else.

Even though Viper has more loops and X is a freak, I would argue the setting of this coaster and the light theming make this more memorable experience. I have to believe that Chance Rides has drawings for whatever Morgan did to rework the otsr from Steel Phantom to make Phantoms Revenge. Even if some of the smaller ones with tighter transitions had the use the Hyper GT-X trains I still think it would be way better than all those inversions. I'm not sold Premier's retrack would fix a ride with corkscrews. Nessie just had the 2 vertical loops and they weren't that bad to begin with.

Python at Efteling was really smooth when I rode it last year. Almost two smooth because it didn’t have the forces I thought it would have. Magnum, Tennessee Tornado are the ones I would want to be saved at all cost. Especially magnum.

You are prob right ab SFDL Viper. They are very smartly maintaining what they have (to the point of re tracking Boomerang in certain areas). They just refurbed/are reopening a waterslide that sat closed for a while as well. If you can't get anything new, mine as well keep up what you have.

disney seems to have a special relationship with vekoma much like you were saying 6 flags works with premier rides. I could very much see rock n rollercoaster get a facelift as a part of a retheme, considering Aerosmith's recent-ish controvery and disney's initiative to keep updating things, but they would probably want vekoma to do it.

Magnum XL-200 seems very plausible. Considering it’s the original hyper coaster, it’s an ACE landmark like you said, and Cedar Point already went through the extensive effort of keeping the other height record breaker, Top Thrill Dragster, and refurbishing it to Top Thrill 2 instead of just scrapping it despite the accident controversy, and having RMC covert Mean Streak to Steel Vengeance so there’s two precedents for restoring bad rides already. CP probably wouldn’t want to scrap it so they can still have the 200, 300, and 400 foot record breakers active, too.

Yes!! The Carolina Cyclone definitely needs a retrack!! Even with the new trains, it's still extremely rough! Magnum needs it too. That thing beat my knees up! Blue Hawk was okay when I rode it. Far from the worst coaster I've ever ridden.

I hope demon stays around for the rest of time. They already replaced the corkscrews a while back with the ones from Shockwave, though that part has gotten a little rough again. A premier retrack would be very beneficial if it still feels like the original. And it adds a lot to the lineup as a small/scale low intense looper. Perfect for someone’s first inversions, as it was mine. I don’t know where they will put their next coaster- probably on Buccaneer Battle spot if they can make it work, or maybe they have to axe American Eagle if they can get approval to build over the road. That would suck, but would break my heart less than losing Demon as of now.

One of the Disney parks has completely retracked Space Mountain before. And to be honest I don’t think Disney will invest in Space Mountain unless it’s necessary. I say this because right as soon as Splash Mountain reopens it would be the best time to do it with Tron open. But we haven’t heard anything and with Disney well they plan everything major several years out. Unless you are referring to what Tokyo Disneyland is doing with their Space Mountain, which maybe. But Rock n’ Roll is the obvious Disney coaster that needs help. It keeps going down. Rumors are it’s the break run and cheap breaks but you never know. And there’s been rumors for years that they want to change the theme anyways.

There’s an environmental plan that shows *something* is happening to Goudurix by 2030, wether a full retrack or a removal. The area surrounding it is being redeveloped as part of a long-term plan to continue improving the park (including adding a Gerstlauer spinner in 2025 and an Intamin indoor coaster in 2028).

Yeah, Viper at Magic Mountain has been rough from the very beginning. It was rough the first time I went on it, and it was still just as rough the next time I rode it over a decade later. I always end up coming off of it with a headache. Canyon Blaster at the Circus Circus Adventuredome was the very first looping coaster I ever went on in August of 1994. I'm glad Desperado will eventually reopen. That means I still have a chance to ride it. I still haven't yet. Maybe one day.

Honestly I'd love to see Six Flags do something about Mindbender at SFOG. The new trains absolutely ruined in the experience and were a complete fail as a revamp. Kraken at Sea World Orlando needs a retrack as well. It's running rougher than I could have imagined it would ever be when I first rode it back in 2002. And while we are in Florida I'd much prefer to see them retrack Kumba rather than replace it. If they are going to scrap or get rid of something in BGT it probably needs to be Scorpion. I like it but it's too small and too short and it's pretty long in the tooth.

I don't know about Desperado. I was just at Primm and Whiskey Petes and Buffalo Bill's both looked like their dying. Most of the money looks to be going into The Primm Resort. If you were staying at Pete's, you couldn't eat on site after 2PM, it was that dead.
