    So basically they made the club buy itself for them, without paying a penny themselves and with a ridiculous amount of interest. Literally bleeding the club dry. Wow.

    @jsquared1013

    Simon Bohan they're not bleeding the club dry. They are turning higher profits than ever and the club is now worth something like quadruple what they paid for it. The club is worth enough now that it could be sold and the debt paid in one lump sum and they'd still have tripled their investment. There is still an argument that they could re-invest more of their profits back into the club (stadium updates, transfer fees on the inflated current market, etc), but it isn't like the club is hurting for funds. They've even kept the ticket prices somewhat reasonable compared to some of the top six.

Now that my friend, is very very hard to beat. Not to forget that their Chinese owners complained several times in public about NOT HAVING ENOUGH MONEY FOR TRANSFERS and literally begged investors to invest in their business. People who really know football and finance would never compare the two things. Unfortunately 330 clowns, including the uploader of this video are very ignorant about the reality of football. It will be at least a decade before pathetic Milan can even compete with a top 6 English club. The Glazers purchase of Manchester United should have been illegal. There is no way they should have bought the club with borrowed money, and then put their debt on the club. They chose to borrow money to buy something, therefore the debt should lie with them alone. TeamDestroyer There was a great article I read not long ago. A journalist was mildly annoyed noticing Old Trafford's WiFi cuts out in different parts of the stadium, then it dawned on him how stagnant United are in most areas. Clubs with money constantly upgrade their facilities. Before the Glaziers, Old Trafford expanded with new modern attachments. Their training ground, their academy, everything was cutting edge. That has stalled. On the pitch an overview of transfers highlights a priority to pay off debt instead of squad improvement during their initial takeover. All the better reason to praise Sir Alex's achievements under relative constraints. While Tottenham, Chelsea, City, Liverpool and Arsenal are building or have built state of the art grounds, training facilties with residential add-ons in some cases, Old Trafford remains the adequate $19 trousers. His content for mediocrity is only saved by United's massive profit revenue. The smaller % towards transfers and wages is substantial for a good manager in Mourinho but it's a smaller reinvestment compared to other rich clubs. A point so many just laughed off when José brought up the arms race with City and Barca. £1Billion of United's profit has gone towards the interest of the Glazers loan. Just the interest. Let that sink in. They are parasites.

    The common relocation of teams in the USA can make it politically toxic to oppose a gigantic welfare check for the billionaire's stadium. My hometown of Indianapolis spent ludicrous amounts of money on the new (at the time) NFL stadium while the old one was still being paid off. On top of that, there's the public subsidies for the NBA basketball arena which is currently world class but is about to get millions and millions in upgrades.

    Very interesting video. The Glazers were never a viable option to buy the shares being sold in 2005 if they were going to do it with a large debt included but really, if they fell out with Sir Alex, there wasn't much of a reason for them to care about the state of the club after. The main problem now is that you can't really see them leaving the club or selling their shares because nobody realistically has the billions of pounds to spare to buy them out. I don't think I'd mind the debt that they bought it on if they had the club's best interest at heart by keeping some of the money in the club to get us out of the pit of bad managers quicker.

    You should add on their intent to put Man Utd in the US Stock Exchange last year or two, which is a gamble for a football-owned team when the intent was reported in the public. Other than that, it would be an interesting case in the next few seasons especially if they can't replicate Fergie-era success.

  • @dinkostoyanov786

    @dinkostoyanov786

    The club's situation is different to what it was a decade ago, on field success only contributes to a relatively average amount of money compared to the clubs other sources of income. Theoretically United can finish 6th every season for a decade and still be somewhat financially healthy, which means that they don't actually need something of a renaissance to previous Fergie-era success. Plus putting the club on the US Stock Exchange will only add to the multiple sources of income united are starting to create for themselves, it is a frugal and safe practice that has made United invincible to the eyes of finance.

    I’m a huge football fan but this is one of the things I hate about the NFL. Why do the cities have to pay for the billionaire’s stadium? Shouldn’t tickets be cheaper for us then? They kill us on the ticket prices, food and beverage, parking, and gear. It’s crazy and that’s why I watch the games in my living room on my big TV.
