I agree but a bit more food for thought. It costs Matt time and money to make it all the way there. No way he's not going to try even if there is bad attitude from the customer. Though I'm sure Mat has a point where you can't pay him enough to do something. Still money aside, I feel Matt is a "better man" and would help anyone even if it was to give the man his classic work shirt off his back. He knows people are what is important. You don't get friends like he has with out knowing that. You see it all the time with his interactions with Ed, Lizy, his kids and well practically everyone who's worked with or for him.

Only if the frame is exposed. Some cars/trucks that "lifting point" could give or now be bent. Matt, Take a look at the US Army Buffalo MRAP fenders. For the heavy wrecker, something like the ones on the Buffalo might be a good solution. You could engineer a way to make them quickly removable so you could only use them when muddy conditions (and/or snowy slush) require them but store them away if you don't need them.

Blankie Man and Untied Shoes were nay saying and ego slaying...Matt was just like I'll give you a lift and an education. What a true Wrecker Operator. Been there.
Hey Matt, You could use a makeshift platform that attaches to the center hookup of the wrecker and allows the lines coming off the boom to connect to it for lift. This will give you the ability to get the platform under the vehicle and lift it without damaging the vehicle, it will also allow the platform to pivot on the various angles that a trail can subject the towed vehicle to. That or a full off road trailer that you can load a vehicle onto and secure that has wheels all the way at the back so as to prevent any scraping with maybe 40 inch wheels on the trailer.
Big lesson here for car builders. .. Make sure to have hard points at the ends for pulling and lifting.. Maybe even some side attach points would come in handy too, for dragging sideways when needed.

Good point! Not a bad idea👍👍
That guy had a problem for every answer but didn’t offer any solution to help. Well done matt for keeping cool.
I figure if my build got me stuck in that Mustang, I'd have been humble and thankful, however, his grumbling did save his rear bumper and mwybe he thought, "Yeah, my sh** broke, pls don't break it more." and we've all seen the "more damage" happen in recovery. Still, I love it when Matt and crew shows up and people are actually happy to see them roll in. Matt, if you build a rig for that run you should put a big honkin', truck mounted leaf vacuum on it, like the one's used by city leaf collection. It'll pick up trail litter easily.
Good job being patient with the customer. Wrecker functioned perfectly. The Mustang owner learned a valuable lesson on the weaknesses of his design, and vehicle selection.
Wow the customer wasn't super great. If I drove that wreck into that trail, I'd be grateful you could destroy my bumper and get me out. "How bad?" "Whats your plan on lifting it?" I'd wanna drive off and leave him to his own problems if he acted like that.

Coilovers were removed to prevent damage to them, as someone indicated the replacement cost per coilover is approximately equal to the value of the entire car unmodified. Prior to Matt's arrival the intention was to place the rear of the Mustang onto the Van Flatbed and tow it out that way. In the shuffle of preparing for the mustang to be towed out the coil overs were placed in another vehicle to be returned to camp. That vehicle left a couple minutes before Matt arrived. Danny (the customer) does have a strange demeanor but a heart of gold. The video doesn't show all the joking around and humor. That mustang build was the culmination of years of work and trial and error, damaging it by being incautious would be heartbreaking. The bingo card was part of the event, helping a broken down gambler was one of the spots on the card that's why I insisted it be given to Matt. My 2¢. So the mustang owner might have been a bit rough on the video, but I'm absolutely confident he is exhausted, possibly hung over, and spent probably the last 15+ hours either bouncing around in that rig or trying to fix it. Plus. Although he was negative, it was for good intentions. He didn't want the rig to fall off or become another problem halfway off the trail. I know Danny, he's a great guy. These Utah gamblers are an amazing group and helped me when I was in need when I went on one of their events a year or so ago.

Great job Matt and Tom! Very professional as usual.
Gotta say, I've been watching for awhile (subscribed too) and this is sparking an interest not just in off roading but the off road recovery.
Matt literally is such a gem. He handled this very well

Well that dudes a ray of sunshine.
Been a few months since I saw a MORR vid. This is my first time seeing the wrecker in action. I will be going back to find the first vid where it's used because this thing is amazing. I'm not going to call it my dream truck, but if I could afford two trucks I would want #2 to be something like the wrecker.
I’m glad to see peanut on this recovery because I hadn’t seen him in a few videos and I was hoping nothing happened to the little guy he’s just a sweetheart anyway Matt you guys are all right when you love animals like that doesn’t get much better all right this is six in a row jim from Kennerdell, Pennsylvania❤❤🎉🎉

Most definitely a Gambler 500 build is needed after Lizzie's and Jayme's vehicle builds Mr. Matt
Matt's got a stronger will than I do. I would've just told the guy to shut up and let me do my job or find someone else to get him out.

You should definitely participate in the gambler 500. And I like that you use the word "ridonkulous"
Matt, I think you need a spectacle lift mounted on the back end of the wrecker. It would make towing in these sort of break downs way easier.
Matt is the man… His patience, empathy and respect for those that clearly lack it, is amazing.

I understand how easy it is to judge a situation from afar, but it breaks my heart to read these hurtful and off-based comments about Danny. I had the pleasure of meeting him during a Gambler 500/Sons of Smokey cleanup recently. He is beloved in the community and notorious for going out of his way to help folks on and off the trails. He is an incredible mechanic, and not afraid to send it. I trailed behind him as he took this manual mustang 2wd OPEN DIFF through Hells Revenge in Moab- no problem. You can see it on the gambler page, it was wild to witness! From what I’ve heard he was mid-repair when someone ELSE called Matt. All I see here is a guy communicating why certain methods would or would not work based on what he knows having built the car himself. And look at what a great solution they came up with because of it!
To be honest I was surprise it took so long for them to realise it was gonna be easiest to just take the bumper off. There is always a very sturdy bar hidden behind them.
Matt had always loved off-roading, but he knew that it could be a dangerous activity. That's why he had invested in a bright yellow off-road recovery truck. It was his pride and joy, and he took great care to keep it in tip-top condition. One day, Matt and his friends decided to go on a particularly challenging off-road adventure. They were determined to conquer the muddy terrain and reach the top of a nearby hill. Matt was leading the way in his trusty yellow truck, and everything was going smoothly until one of his friends got stuck in the mud. Matt quickly sprang into action. He maneuvered his truck around the muddy terrain until he was in a position to help his friend. With his winch and tow straps, he was able to pull his friend's truck out of the mud and back onto solid ground. The rest of the group cheered as Matt's yellow truck proved its worth once again. They continued on their adventure, tackling steep hills and navigating through thick mud. Matt's truck proved to be up to the task every time, effortlessly pulling his friends out of tight spots and keeping everyone safe. As the sun began to set, and the group made their way back to civilization, they all agreed that it had been an amazing day. They were tired and covered in mud, but they were happy and exhilarated. And Matt's yellow truck had played a crucial role in making it all possible. Matt knew that he had made the right choice in investing in such a reliable and capable off-road recovery truck. He couldn't wait to take it out again and see where it would take him next.

ive been involved with the Michigan gambler 500 for almost 5 years and i love it. The gambler 500 is a great event that you guys would absolutely love!!
Matt you have to design and build a variable length stiff arm for the wrecker. This should stabilize the car you are towing.
Gambler 500 hundred sounds like a Kenny Rogers off-road buggy...
Woohoo! I've been waiting anxiously for this vid. Great work Matt! I was participating in this Gambler event. The ancient tire that matt used to protect the mustang? I personally hiked that out of a deep wash near the road where it was dumped, probably decades ago! I'm glad it got put to good use for the recovery!

Yes the Gambler 500 really has growing over the years it started right here in Portland Oregon. I am one of the originals members. Got a challenge for you Matt. Build a gambler 500 car by the original rules. Can not put more than $500 into a gambler rig and it has to make 500 miles. That was original rules. I was able to do it. 85 Caprice station wagon didn't have one straight panel on it. Got it for free homemade lift in it it made 496 miles I decided to climb over a rocky area and punched a hole through my oil pan but I had a blast we're going to be building a new one 1980 LTD Crown Vic 4 door got the car for 150 the lift dirt cheap homemade that is the spirit of the Gambler 500. And it helps clean the the trails which is totally awesome
Matt's ability to keep his cool while the owner kept telling him no was awesome. Matt, you guys should build a Dodge Neon for the Gambler 500. Matt style

I would actually love to see what kinda ridiculous thing y’all would build for the gambler, would be a fun series overall i think.
Yes, Gambler build! We see your very capable rigs off road. Seeing a $500 crapcan off road would offer a lot of entertainment!
Just because you’re having a crabby day doesn’t mean when the help comes you take it out on them. Props to the Team for handling the toddler
So, technically, the Wrecker is a Gambler 500 as it picks up trash on the trails in some of the most ridiculous situations. 😂

What the heck Matt is incredibly patient… that guy is a real piece of work.. Not very appreciative at first. Glad you posted this one. Wrecker is amazing!!!!
You'd do great in the gambler 500, Gind Hard Plumming did an off road Jag for it and took their barbie jeep in 2019. The fuel injection was broken on the Jag so they built a manifold and put a carburetor on it. I'd love to see what you'd build.
Fun Video. I can appreciate the Gambler 500 vibe. Had a few good chuckles. Especially when the High Plains Drifter came on the scene! Thought I'd been switched to a spaghetti western film. I heard the infamous Ennio Morricone score playing in my head..
That customer had some negative energy at first. Matt deflected the negativity like Superman deflects bullets lol. While the customer just kept saying everything you can’t do, Matt just kept trying to figure out what they could do, and got it figured out. I’ve had customers like that, and they’re usually happy in the end like this guy was, but man does it take patience to not get frustrated with all the negativity during the process lol

He definitely mellowed out by the end, its just a phase, guy gets frustrated after trying so hard to fix it and failing and that attitude just smolders for a while until it burns out and he's just thankful and happy to have gotten help. If only more people would have the grace and patience of Matt, the world would be a magnitudes better place to live if that were the case, but unfortunately most people only live life for themselves and nobody else, and that means they just give up in the face of hardship. There are some bad apples every so often of course, but this guy wasn't one of them. I commend you also for having patience like Matt, you're good civilization just for that alone :)

This is the only episode...I was thinking...just leave them !! To there own devices.! Good on you for getting them out . 👍👊
Hey Matt, it might be wise to have a metal beam attached to the wrecker just for stuff like this. Kinda like those russian tanks have logs. You can use it to weld onto whatever supports you can find on the base of a vehicle, have some holes drilled into either side for hooks or clamps and simply pull any vehicle as if it were a trailer. Obv you'd need to let the customer know youll have to cut the beam off later and since steel beams arent too expensive theyre replaceable if you gotta leave a chunk of it with the owner. Basically the same as welding a tow hitch but easier to deal with.
D o u c h y 🥴 customer ... Love Matt's calm manner & overall goodness ✨
