Dang, you have tilapia in Japan? Eat them! Seriously. It's horribly invasive and has wrecked native fish everywhere. The flesh is firm like catfish or mackerel. Also they apparently can overwinter? That's a bit of a scary thought since to my knowledge they are originally tropical fishes that doesn't occur past the tropic of Cancer or Capricorn. 4:46 that's a male tilapia I think. They have that dark coloration sometimes. 5:05 looks like a bluegill nest/bed. I hadn't known that tilapia built beds like a bass/bluegill. I do know that some cichlids (tilapia close relatives) build nests from sand or pebbles though.

how do those more „tropical“ species survive the winter? one of the benefit of beeing in a colder climate is that most of the popular aquarium fish cant survive in the wild and dont pose that big of a problem to the native ecosystems. but those are clearly various lifebeerers like swordtails, guppys and maybe some platys. in other videos u catch trout, chubs and eel. so it cant be to warm around your parts.

Fish can thrive in all kinds of places. In my city there used to be textile factories upstream so when I was a child the river was horribly polluted, some days the water was bright red or purple😢 . 30 years after they decided to clean it up and stop polluting it many people fish in it and there is a healthy fish population. 👍👍

Japan's street ditches are so clean, you can catch fish for your aquarium in them that someone carelessly dumped there, destroying the native ecosystem. Sword tails, Platys, Tilapia, probably Guppies or Mosquitofish and other invasive stuff... wonder if it's far enough south for them to survive over winter, or if there's some hot water inlet near the fishing spot? These are mostly tropical species...
