Who is to blame for the rise of ISIL? | Head to Head

Mehdi Hasan goes Head to Head with Michael T. Flynn, former head of the US Defense Intelligence Agency, on how to deal with ISIL and Iran.
Flynn was the former head of the US Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) and a commander of J-SOC, the ghost military unit whose squads hunted Al Qaeda in Iraq and Afghanistan all the way to Osama Bin Laden’s compound.
With no panel or audience, we ask him whether the US is to blame for creating ISIL and whether the War on Terror has become a crusade.
We also discuss torture in US bases and why he is opposed to a deal with Iran.

The True Fizz that's because people like you want to blame Islam people like you are not looking for a true solution to the problem. This is political. This is economic. This is not a religious war or a clash of civilizations. You might just have a warped view of the world. You don't want to arrived at the boring fact that's your country and your people are in it for money are in it for political gain and are in it for natural resources. It's more noble to believe that the United States are fighting a war against and ideology and the war against an evil force. But that's not the case whatsoever.

Anyway I haven't seen the link and what's the point of calling him an apologist if you're not arguing the point? He brings up some very interesting points that most of these so-called terrorists have nothing to do with Islam and are not religious at all. He's not an apologist he's merely stating some facts. Why do you call anybody that disagrees with the normal bullshit narrative in the media an apologist? It's called correction.

The thought that radical islamists are able to develop a lot of nukes scares me. Why would it not scare the US administration ? The US Military is in the middle east not just because the oil. I actually believe that the primary reason is that the west is afraid of what may happen if radical islamists get control of major oil resources there and thus have the financial means to get them some nukes to attack the west with. I agree with mr Flynn that this is a frightening perspective that motivates radical means. I also agree that the US use to little diplomacy and too much military hardware to succeed. I hope the russians will do it much better since they actually understand foreign cultures like the US does not. The west need to trust Putin to achieve security. Kind of funny IMO... :-)

@@alliearscott3978 "Look at how they handle their invasion of Afghanistan." The Soviet Union did not invade Afghanistan. Like in Syria they were invited by the local regime that was under pressure because USA supported islamic terrorist groups to destroy the regime. But in Afghanistan the russians lost . In Syria Putin use another strategy that includes some cooperation with USA and as Russia no longer is a communist state the US work with the russians to some degree in Syria.

A quiet triumph for those who have always wanted accountability for actions taken in Iraq / Afghanistan and the world we live in as a result of those actions. No matter which country you live in, we should all want that accountability from our governments - because it's the people on the street, any street, that reap what has been sown by those we've put in office. If they speak for us, they can also answer to us.

mehdi hassan plays the devil's advocate very well, he's knowledgeable and modest in his supreme ability to confidently debate subjects without using many of the facts that he's fully aware of in order to aid debate. A sharp mind when taking sides in a debate due to the obvious lengthy time he takes to study his topics. Even if u disagree with him, respect him for being a shining light in times of dark for democracy and open debate.

You always hear Muslim apologists say Islam means peace. That's utter nonsense, it means surrender or submission. There will be peace (salam) when everyone submits to Allahs will. The most quoted sura is 5-32 ' ...if anyone killed a person, it would be as if he had killed the whole of mankind ', and no one ever mentions the whole verse. It was being applied to the Jews (Children of Israel). The Muslims were allowed to kill anyone considered an enemy of Islam, be it a kuffar or someone considered a heretic. You,ve either got to stop lying or burying your head in the sand about your faith.

It is an irony these Americans swift in handing punishments to their opponecessnet's key figures, and yet turning a totally blind eye on their own when they do the same crimes!
