Terence Trent Darby is a bad man !!! One of the most underrated Artist in the 80's & 90's. Vocally he always reminded me of the Late Great Sam Cooke. Since then hes legally changed his name to (Sananda Maitreya), resides in Milan, Italy & still making music til this day !!!!
Terence Trent Darby is very underrated to me. He's Phenomenal. Check out " Sign Your Name ". I had " Wishing Well" on a 45 record.

This album was BAD ASS. It holds up well with the best of them for life!!
One of the best kept secrets of the 80s! Love Terence Trent D’arby
Wow! You really dug into the vault for this guy, lol. Terence doesn’t have a ton of hits BUT he’s fire. I’ve always felt he was underrated.

Perfectly said. I luv that I can go back and relive all these memories.❤
So glad this didn’t get blocked! He is such a talent. After he finished school he was in the military and when he got out he was living in Florida where he became a Golden Gloves boxing champion. Then he became a pop star, a really good one too. He is still alive but has changed his name and lives in Europe. Very mysterious guy! Thanks for the reaction!

Just read his bio and read an interview.. I guess living well in europe with wife and kids and still making music isn't too bad of an ending for Trent aka Sananda.. I do think he's a little odd.. but so was Michael and prince and others who didn't survive.. so He apparently made the right choice.
He's fantastic...seemed to fade away after a few hits, but in recent years I learned he still performs but has changed his name to Sananda Maitreya :)
The entire album: The Hardline According To... is amazing. Not a single bad song. But, to experience the real purity of this man's voice you must hear the album cut ( not a single, so no video) "As Yet Untitled". Yes, that's how it is listed. If you don't feel some type of way after hearing that song then you have no soul.

One of my favorite songs, has the most catchy beat. Terrence's voice is f*+#+-g phenomenal.
One of my favourite artists of all time. That voice......he can do it all....soulful, ballads, funk, rocky.....he has the whole package.
TTD: "Sign your name across my heart" is REALLY good! ❤️

This was a monster hit. As was the (debut) album. Yes, I owned it. He was quite the revelation.
I loved this dude when this came out. His cover of “whose loving you” is amazing. Sooo smooth. “Dance little sister” is a good one too. I never understood why he didn’t become much bigger.
I saw him live in 1986 he was support for David Bowie, so talented.
This song is pure nostalgia for me but has never lost that funky good time vibe. Great reaction.
I enjoyed your reaction. I love Terence raspy voice. Michael Jackson came out in the late 60s. Prince came out in the late 70s. Terence came out in the late 80s. Michael said Prince careers was at their peak in the 80s. Hollywood music industry didn't want Terence disrupting Michael and Prince careers and fame. Hollywood elites helped forced Terence out of the music industry and the US. Terence moved to the UK and changed his name. Hollywood elites felt Terence looked similar to Prince, didn't need another Prince. You can research Terence...speaks about his music journey in interviews.
I love Terence! He’s beautiful!☮💜
I fell in love with this song first time I stumbled into the video on MTV back in '87. The catchy tune and Terence dance moves really got me! You should listen to whole album 'Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D'Arby' if you dig this song.
Such a voice and talent. If I remember correctly, he was about 19 years old when this came out.

No, he was 25
Try Sign Your Name or If You All Get To Heaven next. Terrence definitely has great voice and excellent songs.
Dance little sister'' Is a fantastic song by him..I think you'll love it! and also Sign your name'' wich I played all the time when it came out I was 16...still love his songs. Also I thought he was a mix of James Brown , M J, and Prince! but was still his own performer.
Sign Your Name is another good one by him.
Please react to "sign your name", and "holding on to you " (live from London) both by Terrence Trent D'Arby. Terrence changed his name to Sananda Meitraya. He is now married with children, and lives in Paris. He was compared to Michael Jackson/Prince, and he hated it, although they had much respect for one another. Terrence vowed to never return to the United States, and as far as I know, he never has. Nephew, Terrence/Sananda is so very underrated. I listen to Terrence music on a daily basis, on my commute to/from work. His music prevents me from having road rage, for real, for real. Happy Holidays nephew. 🤎🤎🤎🖤🖤🖤
You have just discovered my favorite singer of all time! I'm a day late seeing this, but I'm so glad to ever see anyone reacting to Terrence Trent Darby, or as he is known now - Sananda Matraiya. He moved to Europe years ago, and changed his name, but has never stopped putting out great music. I'd rather hear him sing than 10 Michael Jacksons. In fact I have his concert DVD with him performing the Jacksons "Who's Loving You" live and for myself, it's the greatest vocal performance I've ever seen and heard. Its so hard to choose all-time favorite songs because so many are great in their own way. But I can easily say TTD or Sananda Matraiya, no matter what he's calling himself, is the greatest singer I've heard, and being a musician since as I was a small child, I've heard a lot. I'd love to see anyone react to his live performance of Who's Loving You from Ohne Filter, 1987.
Check out his live performances, particularly "Holding On To You." It is jawdropping!

Could be the greatest live performance by anyone. It's that good!
Terence is a fan of the late David Bowie. They both were into boxing. This song is in the same key 🔑 as in the David Bowie song Let's Dance 💃
Dude you are almost at 100K I love it. You in that little corner nook making videos. No elaborate intros or design just you and the music. Good stuff!!
Loved this song back in the day. It’s like if Prince and MJ had a child , Terrence would be it! I mean that as a compliment!🥰🤣

When he first came on the scene I never remotely thought he sounded like either Michael Jackson or Prince. So I still don't get it. He's very much his own artist.
I wore this 45' out! 🤩 Terrence is so underrated! He did much better over seas, but thought he should have chatted higher on the US Charts! 🥰🐰
O wow so nice that you have stumbled on Terence Trent d 'Arby.. always felt that he wasn;t appreciated enough. He changed his name and I think he lives in Germany now. But during the height of his career.. he made so many cool songs. There is this album.. Symphony of Damn with the most beautiful songs on it. Like "Delicate" and "Let her down easy" . such a wonderful voice this man has.
Absolutely fantastic song, hits me in the childhood feels......

Teenage feels for me too. Awesome nostalgia. This guy is legendary.
Terence Trent D'Arby was big here in the UK where he started his professional musical career. Before coming to London he had played with a band in Germany for a while. He was born in the US but has mainly lived in Europe - in Italy for a long time. He has also changed his name.
This is and was my song back in the day !! I love him I played pool and put this in the jukebox box every time Love you channel ! I liked and subscribed a while ago Love your reaction to this immense talent !! 💜
I had HUGE crush on him when this came out, I was 14. Listened to my cassette tape of his record til it wore out. Still melts me when I watch his videos.
Smoothest entrance ever...
"Sing your name" "holding on to you", and "O Divina", ALL by Terrence Trent D'Arby aka Sananda Meitraya. Terrence changed his name to Sananda Meitraya, moved to Paris France, and is now married with children.
I told you he is amazing... what a talent Terence Trent Derby.... one if my all time favourite.... great to see your reaction .xxxx. from Birmingham city uk x

Yeah he claimed he was "bigger than the Beatles". LOL Let's be very clear here. You can try to dig up a cover of this song anywhere and it will never come close to this vibe. Dude was unique and could have gone very very far. Before his time really. He would actually have been better off saying those things in todays world but back then, we weren't having it. That ancient egyptian hair though and that rasp... damn.
He wrote this song in 10 min in the bathroom its raw and unreal talent
Thank you for taking time out to listening!! I was in the 4th grade and fell in love with this song! And I'm 42!
Sings, dances and writes his music! But OMGRACIOUS HE IS GORGEOUS!!!
Yeah this guy was the truth back in the late 80's The rumor was his ego became real big (hard to work with) .....Notice the sheriff's badge on the outfit...He was telling prince, and Micheal to watch out there is a new Sheriff in town
Ex golden gloves ..same platoon as elvis ..different time ...son of a preacher man an so on ...talent was unreal...
He can sing so many styles...pure talent!
Saw him perform at the Warner Theater in DC. I still love him and this song.
It's a pleasure to see someone react for the first time to music I grew up on. Terence Trent D'arby had a voice in a million. great reaction brother
You could describe his voice as sandpaper mixed with honey.
I've always been a fan of Terence as soon as I heard this song when it was released. Damn that man's voice is fine!
He is iconic and this album is a must! Brilliant from start to finish. Some say he’s a cross between Prince and Michael Jackson ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Love this song! Excellent Reaction !
Sign your name…. Good album 💿 🙂
Amazing singher and dancer with fantastic voice , I can feel the influence of Prince and James Brown.
Terence was sexy AF!! You should react to more of his music. He was always so underrated. Thanks for doing this one!!
The slide at the beginning still gets me like it did watching this video as a kid. Lol 🥰
I can't believe that in this day and age people still haven't of artist like this! I you to listen to this hard when I was in school (still do for that matter!). His whole debut album is definitely worth listening to. He now goes by the name of Sananda Maitreya.
Terence came out of nowhere. Was huge. And disappeared. Still one of the most underrated singer / songwriters ever. Still great.
TTA was huge in the the 80's. His raspy voice combination with electronic music was so catchy.
Yay - another sweet request! I love remembering when i first caught these videos on MTV when MTV used to be cool. I love how so many songs from this era had a flair for real romance. Gosh i think u may like Brand New Heavies " Brother Sister"
I cant tell you how many times I started that song over. His voice is amazing and he has so much class and style.
This song probably came out before you were born..lol. It's still one of my favorite " cheer me up " songs. He later changed his name. He sang Hold On under his other name
I remember this from the eighties and wonder what happened to him. So talented.
I love this song. He reminds some of Prince :)
i also had this on cassette and would never compare him to mj even though i am a fan of mj but because he is his own man.
Terrence D'arby changed his name to Sananda Maitreya back in October 4, 2001 after going through emotional and hard times. He is still preforming and was living in Italy.
His first two albums are gold mines. Discover at your leisure.
Forever my guy. Tell me you love it!!! A true performer.
If You Let Me Stay is another quality song by TTD :)
Check out his live performance in London in the 90's of Holding Onto You. It will blow your mind!
TERENCE to me when he first came out is a GOAT.
Omg Terrance was a very underrated artist. Listen to Sign your name...
TTD was simply a brilliant artist. Phenomenally gifted! `Twas a pleasure seeing someone else agree with me. Though had no doubt after hearing him, you wouldn't ;- ]
PERFECT combination between Michael Jackson and Prince!! 💜💜
He still performs afaik, has a YT channel. Just changed his name many years back. Beautiful soul.
I remember buying this album the week it came out! Outstanding! Not a bad song on it. He is so talented. 🥰❤️😍
Terence has the moves and swagger of MJ, Prince and James Brown. React to his songs If You Let Me Stay, Dance Little Sister, Who's Lovin' You (Jackson 5 cover), Let's Go Forward, Sign Your Name, If You All Get To Heaven, To Know Someone Deeply Is To Know Someone Softly and Holding Onto You please.
Ohhhhh I knew you were going to love this!
Love this song and video. Listen to it often...It made me think of another song I use to love listening to. It is called Cuddly Toy by Roachford. PLEASE LISTEN TO IT I guarantee to will Enjoy it. You will smile and dance in your chair. They came out about a year apart
This was a banger when it came out. One of the best One Hit Wonders of all time. 😁❤️

Thankfully we had a few more hits in the UK. If You Let Me Stay, his first single, was huge, and there were later ones like Holding On To You, Do You Love Me Like You Say, and Delicate, a lovely duet with Des'ree. Man has *serious* pipes.
You must see HOLDING ON live in london !!!
You HAVE to do Sign Your Name next. You'll LOVE it.
I too had to buy more than one cassette cuz I was in love and we played him constantly. I thought he would be active in music for life.
Will NEVER forget this song. Was hooking up with a girl and just as she was going down on me THIS song came on. She was incredible and this song reminds me of her everytime
Terrance Trent D'arby kills it. Love your work bro
I remember this dude. Cool AF jam to get along and hear.
he has another great one called Sign your name. ♥️❤️♥️❤️✌️
Ohh yeassssss ADogg this guy is GOOOOD. After the reaction I have a suggestion of another one he does that you won't believe. This man can saannnnnnggg
'Sign Your Name' by same artist is worth checking out
TERENCE TRENT D'ARBY "DANCE LITTLE SISTER" & "LET'S GO FORWARD"
Underrated, semi killed his own career - supremely talented - sing and dance - deserved a better fate. An icon should have been.
You should try Holding on to you by Terrence Trent D'Arby live in London it's off the hook
He was HUGE at the time, Love TTD.
@Da Real Adogg LOL... You always make me smile :) You`re such a darling :)))
Hey i remember this song! I was in highschool back in the 1980's when this music video came out on Mtv. Back when mtv used to play music videos.
Adogg, love it when you get surprised by a great video...it's such a gas watching you enjoy yourself so much.
first concert of my life i was 15 1985 brixton London. was sick
Today his name is sananda maitreya! Search sananda Milano 2018, his live concert has been fantastic!!!!! Listen holding on to you live😉
Don't know where D'Arby went after this but I ran out and bought the 45 rpm. He's got the gravel in spots, and at lower volume he can bring out the sand. Unique sound .
Summer of 87.im a metal head and I love this song.
