One of the things I most appreciate about you and the channel is your genuine desire to share and teach. Your videos are clear, concise and well paced. I appreciate you not trying to impress us with video skills; it's about the content. Humble, forthright, and down to earth, you're a breathe of fresh air. Keep up the good work; and if it becomes too much like work, dial it back. Appreciate all you do.

After thirty years in the industry, I can tell you there are two types of engineer... those who went into it for the paycheck - they tend to be competent but nothing more, and then there are those who went into engineering because they have an innate talent and passion for it. Those are far less common, but worth their weight in gold.

I think an argument can be made that he IS an engineer. Just because he doesn't have a piece of paper saying he is, doesn't mean he's not. But I totally get what you're saying - the world revolves around pieces of paper, oftentimes to the detriment of society.

Begging is asking for something for nothing. Producing videos is work (I've made a few). Putting your work out there and saying, "Hey, support this if you would like to do so," is providing folks with the OPPORTUNITY to reimburse you for the value you have given. It's a relationship something like public television or public radio. Go for it.

As a prior, military trained Master Electronics/Avionics Tech, National Bureau of Standards Lab Rat, current Electrician and lifelong inventor, your Engineer friend was right. You have a gift. An expression I coined in the early 70's is very appropriate for you as you show immense imagination as well as curiosity coupled with the ability to research and learn. Back then I wrote: If Necessity Is The Mother Of Invention, Then Imagination Is The Father Of Progress.

I am a hobby woodworker and love being in the shop. I stumbled upon your channel several years ago and I have watched a lot of your videos. A lot of things that you get excited about I do as well. I am astonished at learning how things work. Now a disclaimer must be made right here, I am not even in the same universe as your intelligence with engineering at all, but I know I can learn. I am not going to be a CAD artist or an engineer at anytime but I do love coming to channels like yours where a person like me who has limited knowledge of the subject coming into it but at the end of the video can leave with a smile because I have learned something new. That to me is what KZread should be all about. I just wanted to say that you are a blessing and I appreciate what you do and the time you take to make these videos. This world needs more people like you my friend. God bless you and have a wonderful day.

I agree. At his age I was driven and didn't care about making money. I would spend 24h a day at my job (sometimes but 10h days was not uncommon) to get something done right BUT life hit me hard and I never recovered. I lost my career and after looking at the modern IT field I am glad it is gone (let Asia have it). I still tinker and I love learning something new so I still have his drive but the passion died I think, or should I say life beat it out of me. This guy has a future as he is humble and just a straight up guy.

A weird KZread reality is that people engage with video content in a non-linear fashion; we see something interesting (often suggested by an algorithm), then go backward and forward in time to find additional material. This morning, I watched your video on engineering considerations for woodworking project (DR FARM). Your process was excellent and is the type of content I am most interested in: problem solving and a focus on principal thinking rather than a basic "how to" video that is limited to one discrete project. All that to say, watching this video after the fact gave me insight into why your video content is so excellent. Your openness and humility to learn something new (the initial engineering internship) is both inspiring and encouraging. Additionally, (as is true of many content creators), your generosity of spirit in sharing what you know and your sincere desire to help others grow is commendable. Keep up the great work, and thank you.

I grew up taking anything I found at the local junk yard and taking it home. My mother would always ask "What are you doing with that ?" I hope that this inspires today's youth to do the same.

Jeremy, another career path with your skill set would be becoming an operating engineer. It pays well and its a trade that requires constant schooling (learning) and offers a wide variety of daily challenges on the job. It’s a trade where you will never learn it all. It requires a lot of city licenses. I for example have a 3rd grade boiler license, a refrigeration license, electrical license, and schooling in hydraulics, pneumatics and motor controls. I also have plumbing and pipe fitting skills. I can also weld and have a good grasp of power and hand tools, along with computer and people skills, just as you have. . The work environments change with different jobs. For example, before I got in the trade I used to wire houses and condos. But my first job out of school (industrial plant maintenance) was at a meat packing plant. It was chilly damp environment but was a union job with good benefits. The next job was working for hostess cake ( ya the twinkie folks) and I was there for 15 years. Then I worked at a bread plant. Then I had an opportunity to work for my trade school instructor who, after teaching, started his own engineering firm. This job wasn’t union but the pay was better, similar benefits and my first supervisory position. Funny how life offers so many paths. This job was working in high rise buildings. I’ worked in television stations, art museums, a lot of high security office buildings with large computer servers.. I have been in every building on the microsoft campus. Anyway, it was a great career that offered many challenges and rewarding experiences. I don;t think it’s the norm for people to work there whole career in a job they love with so many different challenges to overcome. Now in retirement, I get to tinker and get inspiration from folks like you Jeremy.

I've been a CAD Draftsman and Designer for 20 years. I really enjoy the engineering field but it is rough in Houston as most of our jobs are oil and gas related and there is very little work here currently. I'm actually trying to start up a wood workings business to supplement some investing income. Solidworks is great software. If you don't know, many companies will have a home use license where you can use it at home. You will have to speak with your Solidworks rep. I've recently been teaching myself Fusion 360, as it's free. It's a more basic package but I can output to my CNC router I'm about to assemble. Keep on keeping on!

Ya see, this is what the internet was supposed to be about. Sharing knowledge and learning new things. Thanks, dude, always feel like I'm attending a Master-Class listening to you. And never forget that the greatest electricity-man at the society started out as a simple helper with a curiosity and knack for experimentation.
