    BoJo comment (2004) on Hillsborough, "..that is no excuse for Liverpool’s failure to acknowledge, even to this day, the part played in the disaster by drunken fans at the back of the crowd who mindlessly tried to fight their way into the ground that Saturday afternoon. The police became a convenient scapegoat," sic. Nb. This is completely false, Hillsborough caused by bad crowd management.

  • @pierrelindgren5727
    @pierrelindgren57275 жыл бұрын

    Andrew Gimson's description of Boris' likely negotiation strategy when he'll begin talks with the other EU leaders, fails to take into account what the EU is. It's a highly bureaucratic organisation where every word on a page and their precise meaning are important and it needs to be that for it to work with twenty-eight sovereign nation states negotiating a common standard between themselves. Boris loose shoot-from-the-hip approach would be anathema to the EU's and not gain any traction. If the British had a greater understanding of what the organisation they have been part of for decades this separation would have been easier. Instead there were promises of the 'easiest trade deal in history,' how they'd be in Berlin rather than Brussels negotiating and the continued insistence there isn't a need for a backstop if they don't want a border while being outside of the EU customs union, single market and ECJ jurisdiction. Brexit more than anything laid bare this ignorance, especially among the politicans that are supposed to lead you. People who should have known better.

    He does seem vague about Peterborough. However, it is in Cambridgeshire, with part being regarded as Lincolnshire for some reason, (and, to confuse matters, it was once in Northamptonshire). But he is possibly basing it on the county. Cambridgeshire does nearly touch the coast. By comparison, West and South Yorks, Derbyshire, Notts, Leics, Staffs, Shrops, Worcs, Warks, Northants, Oxon, Bucks, Beds, Wilts, Berks, in particular wouldn't be regarded as containing 'more or less' coastal towns/cities in county terms.

It’s not a personal offence, I’m not from Peterborough. It’s the wider point, how about I just make a claim about what the word is on the streets of Iran without going there... it’s that slippery slope and ironically in defence of a politician that fabricated a quote for a news story when he was a journalist.

    As PM you can create and shape the role. He knows his strengths and will surround himself with detail orientated people. We need a PM who is a visionary and bring the country with him. We don't want a stead eddy or tenacious Theresa, we need intellect, people skills and most importantly a human.

    Max Hastings wrote a reference for Boris. "Boris is a gold medal egomaniac.......His chaotic public persona is not an act - he is, indeed, manically disorganised about everything except his own image management. He is also a far more ruthless, and frankly nastier, figure than the public appreciates....I would not take Boris's word about whether it is Monday or Tuesday....He is not a man to believe in, to trust or respect, save as a superlative exhibitionist. He is bereft of judgement, loyalty and discretion. Only in the star-crazed, frivolous Britain of the 21st Century could such a man have risen so high, and he is utterly UNFIT to go higher still." Not a man who would be my first choice as Prime Minister and to govern Britain at this time.

I believe his facade of bumbling is his way a kind of cover his way of sussing out who's who among those who surround him. Who he can trust. He probably wouldn't trust any of them. He knows it is a job full of landmines. But if he takes it up he will do the job. He knows what is going on now he is the best man for the job.
