Crosby may have the "goal" for Canada, but Lidstrom has the olympic gold medal game winning goal against arch enemy Finland in a best on best. Easy clap for nr 5.

It has to be Nicklas Lidström. If Peter wouldn’t have had literally over 30 surgeries he would’ve been the best swedish player and arguably a top 5 player of all time. And Peter was built differently than all other superstars. He made 100million playing hockey and even more outside hockey, and to have all those surgeries to try to come back is insane. And when he ruptured his spleen against the Kings they had to force him to go the hospital, and 2 days after he was the Avs practice facility begging to play in the next game.

Lidstrom averaged 25+ minutes on ice for 4 Stanley Cup teams, majority of those minutes against the NHL's top talent. The impact his play had in the defensive end had on the game is unrivaled in NHL history. Nobody was a better defender and breakout passer than Lidstrom. The ultimate shutdown defenseman. Just because he didn't play with the flashy exciting skills does not mean he didn't impact the game just as much if not more. I think he really is one of the best hockey players all time and I do think he is the best swede.

Mats Sundin hands down. A leader, offensive skills, toughness, deceptively good playmaker, best back hand, strong as a horse, physical, 6'5 marquee center. He's the Swedish Mario Lemieux. Considering he played in Toronto which is the hardest market to play in and often didn't have much talent around him (all due respect to Steve Thomas, Gary Roberts, Gary Valk, Sergei Berezin, Igor Korolev, Alyn MacCauley, Nik Antropov, Jonas Hoglund, Nic Hagman,....great wingers....he still put up those numbers and captained Sweden to win the Gold Medal too.

Sundin is loved for being a Leaf and he had a fine career but he was never great. I hate to break it to people but the only reason he is in the HOF is because he was a Leaf. He puts up the same career with Phoenix and he never sniffs the hall like Roenick or waits a long time like Turgeon.

@@rv2167 LOL that's absurd, Sundin is the highest scoring Swede in NHL history at 1,349 points (30th all time) You're prepared to argue that the most prolific scoring Swede to ever play in the NHL (Sundin) at 25th all time in goals, doesn't sniff the hall of fame? lay off the crack dude.

100% agree. I don't know what rv2167 is talking about. Sundin is the #1 all time scoring Swede in NHL history as you said and he's proven himself to be great even on a very difficult market and team like Toronto. I was most impressed when he led Sweden to Olympic Gold in 2006 ...recording 8 points in 8 games (3 goals and 5 assists). When I saw Sundin play as a non-leaf, then you truly realize how great he was because it was frightening to play AGAINST him when we in Toronto were so used to seeing him on our team.@@KP-wt8qr

I took a hiatus from hockey when the Sedin era was drawing to a close, when I return, every single team in the NHL is attempting to recreate Sedinery. Turns out that what they were doing seemed like magic, but it was actually just science that was a little past our ability to comprehend, lol. Imo as a third generation Swede, Borje Salming is equivalent to Babe Ruth, Gordie Howe, and Wilt Chamberlain in terms of impacting North American hockey from a Swedish perspective , the other major influencers mostly hailing from the small town of Ornskoldsvik or thereabouts. You can argue about who played the game the best, but but if you're talking about changing the way the game is played, it's Salming and the Sedins.
