Greetings from Scotland! That was worth coming back for wasn't it? You just experienced the "Diana effect" I lost count of how many times I have watched this performance and I STILL get emotional EVERY time! This is 15yo Diana singing in an amazing Russian project "You are Super" for abandoned/disadvantaged children because Diana spent some years in an orphanage when she was 3yo. Diana has a VERY special voice, she is a natural dramatic contralto (VERY deep) which is rare in females but exceptionally rare in someone so young! Diana was born way over in the far eastern side of Russian in Arsenyev, 160 km northeast of Vladivostok. Her adoptive family moved to Togliatti, in western Russia near the Volga River then after Igor Krutoy (a famous composer/producer) gifted Diana an apartment in Moscow she moved there and still lives there! It makes it easier for her to study at GITIS International, the largest and oldest theatrical State Institution in Russia. For many other examples of even MORE emotional songs than this go take a look at her youtube channel - "Diana Ankudinova Official" but beware of the fake channels out there! She is still 17yo ( soon 18yo on 31st May) and she sings in 7 languages, Russian, English, French, Spanish, German, Ukrainian and Arabic and she's only 17!!! I don't know of ANY other singer that can compare to Diana because she is SO unique! Georgia Lee, a perfect reaction! Context always helps. If one starts that Diana suffered from traumatic parental abuse as an infant, was left in the street injured and unable to speak at age three, rejected by her extended relatives because of that experience and finally placed in an orphanage. To find her voice and teach her to speak, singing was the technique used to accomplish this. At age four, it was a Godsent mother and daughter who became her family, provided both nurturing love and professional training which continued to excel at developing her singing. At age six she was performing enthusiastically on stage and over the course of her childhood had entered and won many competitions both inside and outside of Russia. This performance that you reacted to was her second season of appearing on a show for orphans and disadvantaged youth called "You Are Super" which she won twice (the second season being a "champions" season). This specific performance was her next to last performance of that season was when she was 15. Just as an aside, earlier in her teen years she did auditioned for Russia's Kids Voice and failed to get a chair turn though she did get to sing a second song! Her unique vocal style hardly fails to evoke strong reactions though few fall on the side of dislike. Goosebumps tend to regularly appear on first time reactions. Immediately after the performance, they turn on the general light, everyone gives a standing ovation, but Diana does not react in any way and only for a few seconds the camera captures the moment when Diana comes out of the "trance" state, it looks incredible!

Several people have suggested Rechenka .. ... the song evidently is based on Russian Pre-Christian, Pagan songs and stories .. think .. Tribal. I think that it is made up of bits and pieces for the modern interpretation but seems to basically that a young orphan girl is to be married. She goes to the river which was believed to be the place where life and death met to speak to her dead mother and ask for blessings. She sings that the house is full of guests and horses but she has no on to bless her. The dancers you see are river spirits. In those old days it was thought to sing sad songs to drive away evil spirits.

At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far northern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage.
