This could simply be one of the many oversights from Bethesda again. Many Things in you video were propably also oversights and cut contend from Bethesda. Hi Camel. Maybe you could investigate on lord Harkon backstory? Castle Volkihar has so many ancient Nordic carpets and banners, he has a dragon priest dagger stored in his room. He wants to take out the sun, the eye of the dragon Akatosh. He claims to have been a powerful ruler once, and even his name "Harkon" is very similar to Konahrik, when we switch the letters. Wich is my fav theory, him being Konahrik. Also, that is similar to Erik, in norse it means Sole Ruler/Forever ruler. The dragon battle theme starts playing in his boss fight. He has a Akavir Sword, Akavir also known as land of dragons. Serana not knowing about the empire of Cyrodiil, wich came long after the dragon cult. There's so many clues that relate him to dragons. And also on why Vingalmo is referenced in the book "night of tears", making him actually older than Harkon, thus wanting the throne. And Harkon did wanted to get rid of his mortality, wich is a thing many dragon priests have done, specially Hevnoraak.

@@Prowler142 Konahriik exist in the game as I rembenber right? Harkon were probably the king of Falkreath and is probaly a Dragenborn. Dengeir, Siddgier, Thadgeier and Vighar are surely part of harkons clan/family. Vighars little clan were also the first description of the Volkihar clan anyway. Also were it surely a Volikhar Clan Vampire which freed Vighar from his grave.

@Tifa600 To be honest in that same playthrough because of a couple mods added Nazeem ended up dying anyway later on so no harm no foul. The one mod added in Wintersand Manor, Nazeem's house, outside the city and Nazeem got caught out in the open and burnt to death in a dragon attack since there was also a mod working that made dragon attacks much more dangerous and dragons much stronger. That was even with another mod that made townsfolk flee for the lives when dragons or vampires or pretty much anything attacked. A different mod caused Grelod the Kind to get murdered at a holiday celebration in Riften, not by me.

Best guess: Nazeem and his wife used to be moderately affluent. As the war took off, Nazeem tried to profiteer by buying up a local farm and hiring an elemental mage farmer to enhance the crops he grew ("mine are twice as fresh"); this fell apart when the mage turned out to be a terribly inept farmer and the Jarl largely discouraged either side from setting up shop within his walls (lack of thalmor, empire, or stormcloaks means no way to profit selling magically enhanced crops which stay fresh longer). Nazeem spent a great deal of time early in the war trying to convince the Jarl to allow Empire, Thalmor, or Stormcloaks to resupply in town but he never made it that far - he got turned away at the gates but made such a big fuss about it to his wife and anyone who would listen, he got deep in the delivery and had to lie about the results (the jarl listening to his input on matters above our heads). As the farm continued to sap his investment, he held out hope to turn a profit - he tries to convince people in town how great his crops are while snubbing his nose at everyone else's products. The owner of the bar he and his wife sleep in either owed his wife a favor or took pity on them - the fact Nazeem continues to snub his nose at his landlord leads me to believe it was his wife who made the arrangements and out of respect for their arrangement, the landlord doesn't take Nazeem's stupidity seriously. So in the end: Nazeem is an entitled, delusional little man who lost everything on a bad business venture. His wife kept a roof over their head while he fettered away the money they had and he spends his days sauntering around town being a general menace, but everyone takes pity on him for his circumstances and just treats him like a mildly annoying fly - they let him play aristocrat, let him talk big, then gently dismiss him and he goes on his way. He fails to acknowledge the extent to which his greed and poor business skills have affected his marriage, he lacks self-awareness so he thinks people not only respect him but his condescending attitude is impressive/a comfort to his wife, and he's so caught up in his desperation that he fails to appreciate how blatantly destitute they are because of him. Any other person might see this setup as a wrong step and buckle down to scrape out a living, but he's content clinging to his past wealth and status thinking either one is still intact - this is a temporary set back at worst, he's still on top of the world, others just cant see the big picture he has going on behind the scenes, he's playing the long game and will come out in top in the end. Nazeem certainly has his head in the cloud district

Delphine is the most hated character in my opinion. Cause she questions you at everything you do when you first meet her, boss you around as though you owe her, constantly doubt your abilities to slay dragons even though at this point you’ve killed at least two, forces you to do her bidding with no input from you to object, decides that she’ll only help you if you abandon the Way of the Voice training, she demands Paathunax death otherwise she won’t allow you to be a part of the Blades even though she said herself the Blades are at the service of the Dragonborn. This is just a very very small sample of all the things I hate about her. Nazeem doesn’t even compare. All he is, is a bigot, narcissist and ignorant. He has three lines that annoy people whenever you meet him and he’s a absent husband. Bad qualities for sure, but nowhere near the mountain of bad Delphine is.

Weird statement here but... I always thought Jarl Balgruuf would make the better High King of Skyrim. He allows Heimskir to preach the word of Talos. He negotiates with and supports the Empire which protects his peoples freedoms from the Thalmor Incursion. He is the only Jarl to openly and fully support the Dragonborn from the get go. So much that he hastily makes the Dragonborn a Thane and allows the dragonborn to capture a dragon in his castle. Even before all that he has his court wizard studying the dragons and is in contact with Delphine well before the Dragonborn even arrives. While all the other Jarls are pretending to rule to squabbling over their ideologies. Jarl Balgruf the Greater is actually ruling his Jarldom and bringing money in. He's likely adopted children to give them a better chance and to have heirs... I'd vote for him.

I sadly have to admit that I have indeed rescued Nazeem for the Companions. It was under duress, it was early on in the Companions quest line, and I was given one of those filler quests. I wanted to be a werewolf, so I held my tongue, stayed my hand, and brought him back in one piece. The game gave an apology later as a few hours later, I walked out of the Bannered Mare, saw a body drop out of the sky and decided to investigate closer. Nazeem went splat in the middle of the Whiterun market to brighten everyone's day.

Wasted potential is the defining trait of Bethesda games, it would seem. Ever since Oblivion horribly squandered Cyrodil and all the interesting racial and political tensions as well as the city and ecosystem designs that previous games described, they've only been further and further downhill with every game. It's really sad honestly, to think about how amazing these games could have been if the devs had the time and (more importantly) the care to craft something wonderful instead of settling for barely passable. The idea of what Skyrim and Fallout 4 could have been if they still had the writers and passion they had with Morrowind is amazing; unfortunately, now it's just horribly tragic knowing that we will never see such a thing because Bethesda doesn't have writers or passion anymore.

Fascinating video, several observations: 1. Horker are not native to Whiterun hold, so Nazeem most likely has a point about the freshness of the meat. 2. It's really interesting to see the original design for Whiterun. It would be awesome if modders redid the city (or part of the city) to include this original design and Wintersand Manor in one of the places indicated. 3. I choose to accept all these theories as fact, even the ones lacking in evidence, just out of how hilarious that would be 😂 4. Skyrim investigation idea: who in Oblivion in Elisif the Fair? Who is she to marry a high king and then be an acceptable candidate for jarl of Solitude and high queen?

I'm just starting the video but I have a theory that part of Amren's schedule was supposed to belong to Nazeem. From UESP: "On Tirdas and Turdas he [Amren] breaks off from his normal routine at 10am and spends four hours inside Dragonsreach, either eating or wandering about." Amren gets to the Cloud District, knows the Jarl...and it makes his quest seem weird. Given that he has Balgruff's friendship and visits him twice a week, you'd think the Jarl wouldn't mind helping him get his sword back. Meanwhile, Nazeem is supposed to be an advisor--someone who has the Jarl's ear either in an official or unofficial capacity but is still trusted regardless--but never makes it to Dragonsreach (the infamous Cloud District) at all. If this is actually the case, why did the mix-up happen? My guess would be because they are the only two Redguard men in Whiterun and that enabled something to get screwed up along the way. Regardless, it would be pretty hilarious, along with the fact of Nazeem's house being deleted, if part of his intended schedule was given to another character.

Well done! I would question the assumption that same-sex relationships are looked down upon in Skyrim, as all marriagable NPCs will gladly marry either sex if the conditions are met. I'd think it mire likely that Balgruuf's and Nazim's loveless/sexless marriages were entered into on the basis of political or economic considerations...and, while same-sex relationships are not frowned upon, adultery is viewed as a betrayal and disapproved by Nord society.

There's a thousand named NPCs in this game and not a single same sex couple. You'd think there were some people openly swinging that way. However considering that the possibility for same sex marriage is based in NPCs not having a programmed sexuality, it's most easily attributed to Bethesda being lazy shits and putting a minimal amount of effort into the marriage mechanic beyond making sure it exists for the sake of marketability.

I'm surprised that this wasn't brought up, since part of the dialog was used, but Balgruuf and his kids are tied to the Mephala Quest. That quest is also famously one that was clearly cut to shreds with only the barest minimum. Mephala is the daedric prince of sex and death. What if the cut content regarding Nazeems home in the cloud district and the cut content regarding the Mephala quest were connected, and the quest was originally about trying to identify the true parents of Balgruuf's kids? The idea of everyone cheating on each other with someone else would be a perfect complication to that kind of plot, and play into Mephala's sphere as well.

Regarding Nelkir being Balgruuf's brother, I think there's a simple explanation for this. Assuming that Balgruuf is a Human being, then he too has had a father and mother, and let us assume that Hrongar took up more after their father than Balgruuf did. If that supposition was true, then I could see Balgruuf's and Hrongar's father also spending his time pub crawling and teaching any woman that catches his fancy how to Shout. Being a Nord, it wouldn't surprise me that even in his advanced age he would have enough energy to have a tryst with a tavern maid, and one such romantic rendezvous could have resulted in Nelkir being born. Thus, Balgruuf would have encountered a younger brother who could have passed off as his own child, and thus adopted him into his family, whilst keeping his true origins a secret. But we don't know much about Balgruuf's extended family, so this thought shall remain a simple theory.

I am, of course, speaking of the Follower Uthgerd the Unbroken who, despite having a home, sits in her little corner at The Bannered Mare 24/7! I had discovered some of the Wintersands Manor stuff you point out in the video, and worked out that the building at one point had a reference number before being deleted - there's a skip in numbers down in the lower district and the Drunken Huntsman has a further along id number than the other buildings. I initially thought that the Hunstman was the location for Wintersands originally, but the former Whiterun plan makes much sense for the Nazeem character. It would be interesting to know how much was built/arranged before redesign. Maybe you can get a AMA with Kirkbride some day. Thanks for the video.

Hmm I don't think that's it. But I do share the sentiment. My theory is that they don't want the kids to have friendly dialogues with the DB since they are to be portrayed as spoiled brats. I'm not entirely convinced around balgruuf not being the father of the children in dragonsreach, since the only evidence is found in the game files. Which isn't exactly an accurate or relyable source of information. I personally believe that there is another secret with balgruuf; where he may have killed his wife with the ebony blade, convienently in his basement. I also believe that balgruuf has a secret affair with Carlotta, due to her home furnishings being incredibly lavish for the plains district. And that Nelkir is actually Carlotta's son - taken in by balgruuf to avoid controversy. Hence why i'm not entirely sold on the idea of dagni, frothar and nelkir being the children of hrongar. But great video 'redguard'-less. (Also, this theory that I have presented could be further explored if you wish to, it's an idea that is rarely mentioned in the community.)

@@lisamarie06 my take on that theory is that he did not kill his wife with the Ebony Blade. I think his wife was the one in possession of the blade and he was forced to put her down. No definitive proof of this, but I don't find a man of honor doing that without reason. Also, the Blade does not call to Balgruuf who actively keeps it locked up and away from himself and the court (only to Nelkir). It has no sway over him, so it likely never did because I don't think it lets go once it has you. I think his wife killed quite a few people, and potentially tried to kill him or his children, and in the strain of the relationship Balgruuf sired an illegitimate child. Nelkir is basically a result of the blade (it is part of him hence the darkness in him) and now it calls to him. Quite the web for Mephala to spin.

  • @johnclark222

@@ReformedSauron Your theory has weight, but there's just a lack of evidence to prove it. And the warning book found on the table next to the blade seems extremely personal. It is also extremely possible for such a noble and honorable man like Balgruuf to fall under its influence; as it states that it has: "Corrupted the desires of 'great' men and women."

This was amazing to watch, both in it's final form and from the footage on stream over on Twitch. Thank you so much for sharing your work! I always had a feeling that there was something more to Nazeem and Ahlam, but we just don't get to see it; even if it's all just speculation there's a lot of evidence that something more was planned for them. Something that's always puzzled me, and might be worth looking into, are the different group dynamics between the Companions and the Thieves Guild. When the player joins the Companions, everyone is supposed to be your brother or sister in arms, but nearly everyone openly dislikes you except for a couple of NPCs like Kodlak Whitemane. However, compared to the Thieves Guild, everyone is overly open with their life story; you can't go two steps without some thief waving you down and telling you all about what skills they have and how they got there. Why do thieves care more about the player then your shield brothers and sisters? It's all very weird. Anyway, thanks again Camel. You wondrous mad lad, you!

I can't help but feel Bethesda tried to make you like her. But failed SO HARD there. I'll always side with Super Parthio over her. I belive that those two buildings on either side of dragonsreach are the houses of clans greymane and battleborn. I think wintersand would be one of their massive houses in the wind district. Nazzem only goes to the cloud discrict so he can be at the jarls' backside. I dont think he was supposed to live there.
