@@BasudebJena003 In that moment, Brain surpassed Gazef Stronoff in strength and entered the realm of heroes, basically saying that he went far beyond what his normal species was able to do. Cocytus was able to acknowledge Brain's strength and instead of treading over his body, he instead went around becuase Cocytus had that much respect for Brain and his courage. The light novel specifically says: Just as Cocytus was about to step over Brain, he stopped himself again. He looked towards the castle behind Brain. “…” Cocytus turned his head around while deep in thought. He turned right and walked into a path that was narrower than the one before. He walked down the path until he emerged onto the main street again, after which he took another right turn. He walked along while confirming the castle’s position, taking every right turn detour that he saw which brought him back to the main street. Cocytus looked towards his right. Brain’s remains were now quite a distance away. Cocytus then silently walked towards his left - towards the castle.

@@BasudebJena003 You just had a "true warrior" stand his ground with resolve in the face of death, to not allow the intruders past him. Being effortlessly defeated doesn't matter, because when it comes to warriors, respect and honour is seperate from strength. This is how Cocytus can respect those so much weaker than him. Having just impressed Cocytus with his resolve and will, as well as showcasing the greatest warrior traits (surpassing ones own innate limits through this), Cocytus has nothing but respect for Brain. To simply continue walking past his slain body, when such a respectable warrior had lain down his life to prevent that, would be the hight of disrespect towards him. So he doesn't want to continue forward out of respect, but he has his own conflicting orders. So after giving it some thought, he finds a way to carry out his orders without disrespecting the warrior he had just recognised. The fact that this was done in such an outwardly obvious manor in front of so many of his subordinates is what makes his "walk" so much more meaningful than it already is, because it is expressing his level of respect for all to see, towards one nominally an enemy.

Cocytus was created as a soldier. Ains wanted him to grow as a general. A soldier accepts orders without thinking, but an officer thinks about the meaning and reasoning of the order.

What is Command Intent? Told that regularly as an officer, key thing, you are right on the money for officers. That said their officers will be held accountable for this misinterpretations of orders since they gave them unclear direction.

I think takemikazuchi was plenty creative, he just made so many swords over the years of playing yggdrasil that he got tired of naming all of them, so instead he'd name a series of them and each iteration would be an improvement or variation of a common theme.

Indeed to assume the guy wasn’t creative because of one example shows that our host has only ever made one or two things in general. It’s very easy to come up with 5 or six badass names, but if I asked for 300 of them and expected you to never reuse any or call it a different color then you’d be stumped. However, you could probably come up with thousands of different blades with different variations and uses and of improving usefulness

Takemikazuchi wasn't bad at naming weapons. He grew attached to some weapons, and improved on them over time little by little. One weapon he could have used since he began playing Yggdrasil and named it MK I, and over the course of playing he would add parts, or aspects to that weapon, and every addition would be another version. He respected everything he owned, and that sense of respect carried over to Cocytus. I personally would know, because I do it myself. If it were me, if I had something I treasured and improved on that something, I wouldn't just give it a new name. I'd want it to retain its original name, and then give it a sense of progression as I build on it.

DnD has a devil that closely resembles Cocytus physical appearance and shares the theme of ice powered skills. its called "Ice Devil" and Cocytus is most likely drafted after it just with extra arms and a more heavy set style to represent the warrior/fighter in him. Its possible that Cocytus' unknown racial lvls are in "Devil" (5) and "Greater Devil" (5) as Ice devils are always specialized devils that "evolve" from Lemures, a base devil form.

About Cocytus's arms and tail, in DnD, there is build archetype focusing on using many weapons with many arms, it is a glass cannon like build, so i woudnt be surprised if his build has many bonuses that apply to all his attacks, instead of specialized and stronger buffs. I would also not be surprised if he can both Bite and attack with his tail in his general damage rotation with his four arms.

I strongly believe their loyalty is primarily motivated by their fear of abandonment. Given NPC retain some of their memories from Yggdrasil; they _must_ remember the loneliness of having been on standby after their own creators left. On many occasions it was directly stated they feared deviating from Ainz's plan or disappointing him would cause him to leave like the rest of the 41; and not that they don't have a will of their own. Being the one that causes Momonga; who stayed behind; to leave is as a sin far too great for any of them to bear. The fear of abandonment is so great; to the point Albedo created a hit squad for the purpose of _Killing_ the 40 who left; So Ainz wouldn't leave them.

I recall reading something about Sebas in particular that makes the rock paper scissors between him and the other floor guardians make a touch more sense: one of his key advantages in a fight against other close quarters fighters is a skill that allows him to sunder weapons. Albedo's signature weapon is a world item (given to her on the sly by Tabula Smaragdina) whose most remarkable quality is that it's nightmarishly effective against wide areas and the terrain itself, and completely unbreakable, if a touch mediocre against actual targets. Cocytus's signature weapons are all extremely well specialized killing tools whose durability is completely unremarkable.

Maybe the ??? Insect class let's you select new physical traits as you level amd customize your character. Like for each 1-2 levels you get to pick a part of your character and mutate it, gaining skills and abilities.

To me the collections is not like a boring way of just collecting objects. I think it more of like they collect a unique object possessed by a person they find interesting and respect. To trophy hunt is to respect the prey. Hes not like a hoarder he could not save, spare or convice Brain to change or defect. No reason to bring it up to the Lord. So his way of dealing with it and still following orders was to kill and collect a personal momento from an opponent they found interesting and in way he gets to preserve his personality without being unloyal to the lord. My 2 cents.

Naming something you've improved from the original as Mk 2 or Mk 3 does not mean he isn't creative good lord. Creativity is need for innovation which you absolutely need if you are in the top melee players in the top guild.

Brain was a true warrior to the end, but I have to admit I feel sorry he wasn't even able to land a single hit, but I'm glad Cocytus treated his death with the respect it deserved. As a Warrior himself.

Only reason brain didnt land a hit was because, out of respect, cocytus did not handicap himself at all. Using all of his strength to avoid insulting brain.

Halberds didn't cleave through armor but as most armor during the late medieval period could stop all but the highest grade rifles at medium range [around maybe 50 meters to 30 meters] Halberds were used in formation preferably behind the shield wall or pike square until combat starts

These have been the first book I've ever bought (or really anything I've bought related to an anime). The last episode was extremely close to the book. I also highly recommend supporting the author and buying the books. If anything my favorite is the paladin of the holy kingdom 1 + 2. You are missing out if don't read those books.

Damn even though I knew it was coming seeing brain go out is still painful. It's interesting to see cocytus preserve his body in the middle of the road instead of of taking it back to nazarick like in the LN but maybe that happens off screen. Maybe some stuff can happen and we'll see him again but as of now farewell my favourite character. Day 59 of asking for a grand assassin Hassan servant review

tbh the fact that his body is encased in ice (no decomposition) and how it is implied to be brought back to Nazarick does hint that resurrection is highly likely to happen at some point. Maybe as a companion for Climb or something? Who knows. Ainz was thinking about bringing back Stronoff, and Brain is much more "special" as a specimen than Stronoff.
