Who is Britain’s new prime minister Keir Starmer?

Sir Keir Starmer said he had a "mountain to climb" to rebuild the Labour Party from the ashes of its defeat in 2019.
So who is the man who so successfully sold a message of "change"?
Our people and politics correspondent Nick Martin has been speaking to those who know the incoming prime minister best.

Yet another middle manager who got the job because he managed to hang on. He did not so much succeed as survive as the rest of the party imploded and the Tories destroyed themselves. Be nice to think he is going to make a positive change but I have no faith and little hope! Three Labour government in my lifetime. Every one left us worse off and our country in a weaker positiiin.

The Labour Party won the United Kingdom general election, but several concerns arise. Firstly, how can foreign investment be attracted if taxes are to be raised across the board? Secondly, where will the workers come from to build 1.5 million new residential units? Thirdly, the levy of 20% VAT on more than 1,000 public schools could mean the closure of these private institutions. How will the unemployed teachers be rehoused? With an overwhelming majority, the Labour Party government will be able to pass legislation at will over the next two years. This means that far-left forces within the party might hijack this honeymoon period to pursue their agendas. It is in the Labour Party’s nature to increase public expenditure, create more bureaucratic posts for social welfare, and propose numerous unrealistic social policies, including prioritizing issues such as transgender affirmative action and education. This could lead to significant public spending, some of which may be wasted. There is no mention of defense spending in their platform. Many Britons understand that this election is less a victory for the Labour Party and more a defeat for the Conservative Party, which has been in power for 14 years but has suffered from fatigue and an inability to deliver. To save the party, Labour leader might need to emulate Tony Blair’s approach from 1997, balancing leftist domestic policies with a right-leaning stance in foreign affairs and national defense. However, the free market economy is now dominated by global monopolies, making traditional methods outdated. Tony Blair, who followed Bush into the Iraq War, became infamous for his actions. What’s the plan and fit for the current Labour Party? It’s all uncertain. The risk is that extreme polarization could occur, leading to significant societal issues. In a few years, the British voters may suffer the consequences.

How on earth can reform only have 4 seats with 4 million votes while Lib Dems have 71 seats with less votes? Who has voted for Sunak to stay in as MP? Despite having a short time to form, not having candidates in every constituency and media didn’t even give Reform fair coverage during the run up to the election they still had a turnout of 4 million. My grand view of it all having grown up in Eastern Europe and now living in the UK. I've seen this back in E.Europe. When things go bad, people want a "change", whatever it may be. In the West people are rightfully unhappy with the status quo hences "the changes" - Starmer won in the UK, I think similarly will happen in US with Trump winning & Le Pen in France. Will anything improve from what I've seen in Eastern Europe when things go bad? - 100% NO.

I think this is make or break for the UK. If Starmer gets trust of the Uk and manages to lead it to steady growth in the next 5 year, the UK could see a 3rd resurgance, if it's all dead promises, we'll continue down the same path
