Killing him off the way they did was so absurd. Made absolutely no sense, and now in hindsight should've been a dead giveaway that the showrunners weren't up for handling the (admittedly difficult) task of progressing past the books. Was a clear as day sign they had zero grasp on the source material

Not to mention that when Barristan's actor was understandably upset about the direction they took his character their reaction was a childish "That just made us want to kill the character a lot more".

​@@FlorentWyne_ Yeah, his actor had read the books and had an understanding of the character and the arc of he character in the books so he was able to see the idiotic changes being done. He didn't see the characters death coming in the show and was obviously pissed when he found out, the character is alive in the books and was killed in the show before they had even finished the book material which just makes the decision even more ridiculous. It's not as if they had ran out of material and had to continue his character arc on their own like with the rest of the characters in the later seasons, they did it out of spite and pride and because they could, justifying it by acting as if his character wasn't important enough to finish his arc properly and killing him off early was to make time for more important plots. Basically the same way they handled Dorne (and eventually everything else) after their shitty writing fucked up that entire plotline and characters. By just scrapping it all and trying to cover their asses by saying the plot wasn't necessary to the story they were telling/would take up too much time anyway. Their handling of the story fell off once they no longer had definitive endings in the books yet and they had to actually had to write for themselves. "Time constraints" was always the excuse when they fucked something up, except HBO was willing to give them more seasons to properly finish the story which didn't come out until everyone found out they rushed the ending to go work on Star Wars. Ironically the rushed wrapping up of the show and bad writing wound up causing that Star Wars opportunity to go away in the end so it was all for nothing.

Barristan will protect Daenerys from the Serpents of Meereen and will die for her during the War of Westeros , but the show runners destroy his story to give us a shitty ending..

I'm 90% sure barriston will leave dany to join aegon. He said his one regret was saving the mad king because of heat he would go on to do and staying by his side while he descended into madness. We know that right now dany has accepted viserys advice to wake the dragon and is going back to burn all her enemies to rule by fire and blood. The second barriston realizes she can't be reasoned with and learns about rhagars last son he's jumping ship.

​@AniSwiftTVRecaps barristan was already happy when he knew there will be war, and dany will bring fire and blood to the masters not the innocent, so she can abolish slavery for good, faegon is another version of Joffrey just like how tyrion said it.

This kinda reminds me of when Loras goes at it with Jaime by claiming he learned his ways from the current shitty kingsguard but Jaime is quick to point out that he actually learned from the best kingsguard men who could easily slaughter the likes of Boros Blout and Osmund Kettleback

He was a simple old man but hopefully he learned how to scheme after being around the throne for 50 years

IIRC Barristan considered Jamie Lannister an absolute bottom worst of the worst because he killed his king.

Make sense. Being a Kingsgaurd is Barristan life and Jamie tarnished what it meant to me a Kingsgaurd. Jamie did the exact opposite of what the KG were meant to do. No matter the rightness of Jamie's actions(and him not explaining on the wildfire plot), he shouldn't have continued as a member.

There's nothing impressive or righteous or glorious about their knightly order...Even though they try to fancy themselves a mirror of the much more historically venerated Night's Watch.

​@@AtheAetheling, yet for most of the times the Kings guards are either : 1) bodyguards to royal families or 2) military officers in service of royals in times of war, just like big shot nobles. It just so happens they are posted in highly visible place as bodyguards of royalty and before Jaime killed Aerys, they had high standard of martial skill. So, a prestigious group of bodyguards.

I think Barry Boy would've considered Criston Cole the worst, at least out of the ones we really know about.

This was exactly the moment Selmy realised, its not aleays about "SWORD" fight.., "POLITICS IS VERY COMPLICATED" you have to soil ur hands for the greater good.

I still don’t forgive what they did to him in the show We should’ve known from his death that D&D were not going to honor the books at all

Problem with berry is hes enforcing his rule in a land he's not familiar with. Aegon managed well in his time while dany tries to do it but fails due yo appealing with criminals Berry now has a war that can all but cause more problems considering the green grace is plotting against them. If dany figures it out she can burn her and see she needs to be smarter than to trust women who are older than her as she never had that mother figure growing up. Then she'll be a better ruler to understand how to give trust to those who can be trusted

Aegon also has two sisters and 3 dragons at his disposal to instill rules and order. Dany is also dealing with ALOT more than Aegon was in a way. The city is full of rebels, she has limited men dying wveryday, a player running rampant and other cities going against her. And the dragons she has aren't trained or even rideable because the knowledge is lost. She is surrounded by people she knows have their own goals trying to figure out whose the biggest traitor around her, the problem is that Dany has morals that her enemies don't.

I don't see him enforcing his rule, he was doing the least he could/should do which is holding Dany's city for her, against her more obvious enemies. He had no choice in that.

So, in other words: Ser Criston Cole, Ser Lucamore Strong, Ser Jamie Lannister, Ser Areys Oakheart, Ser Amaury Peake & Ser Mervyn Flowers are the worst. While characters like Ser Duncan the Tall, Prince Aemon the Dragon Knight, and Ser Athur Dayne the Sword of The Morning were the best.

Well that's ironic 😅 him critiquing all the flaws of the other knights ?basically they all do the same thing ? and selme was no different from the others he still kills on behalf of an insane king and watches while he kills innocent people! All while doing nothing and is only excuse is he has to uphold his oath to a madman! At least Jamie Lannister upheld his of by protecting the Kingdom by putting it in to that mad king and killing his acolytes who were preparing to burn down the city ... All selme did was switch from one insane King to a queen was three lives dragons who has a pension for burning people alive!

Did you know, in real life, you're not the only one that had read the books. I wish you'd stop posting these, you're igniting it all again.

The tragedy there is that for all his heroism, Barristan does play the game of thrones. I expect he'll end up like Ned Stark pretty soon.

Barriston served 3 kings, was vital in putting down 2 rebellions Single handedly save his king from an impossible situation while avenging another kings guard at the same time. Was the only one to speak up when cersie tore apart his kings last will. Like the only fault barriston has is that he's too good at fighting so he always survives his kings death, infact they said when Robert found barriston at the trident he was surrounded by a small hill of bodies and was bleeding from dozens of wounds,
