I have read that it was an old Russian folk tune that was heard by Spanish soldiers who took it back to Spain, where it became the guitar arrangement we all know.

Discussions about this piece will go on forever! Sounds easy but it's pretty difficult in parts. By the way Interdit means forbidden not forgotten. Boyer wrote a number of "forgottens". Interesting video.

Thank you , grazie mille . I know that Forbidden Games the film is based on the novel Les jeux inconnus by François Boyer. Les jeux inconnus means Unknown Games. And the piece Romanza is by an unknown author. I find it interesting, at least for fun.

Yepes did the film recording in 1951; the 10-string dates from 1964. He performed that whole soundtrack on a standard six-string.

I like very much Yepes when he plays on a standard six-string.

I have long suspected this to be a TARREGA piece, or that perhaps it was composed by a student of his. Three reasons: 1) It resembles his Etude #2 in Em, 2) It uses his tremolo technique, 3) It overall seems to have his sonic fingerprint. Just an opinion.

Impossible because two of Tarrega's students, Miguel Llobet and Daniel Fortea, published the piece with the words "anonymous composer". If it had been composed by their maestro and idol Tarrega they would have written it in capital letters. There is also a manuscript by Llobet where he declares this composition to be by an unknown composer.

@@DanieleMagli Thanks much for that information. That makes sense. My head believes what you say, but my heart still can’t separate the piece from the spirit of Tarrega.
