Magnus Midtbo and I face off to see who builds stronger arms? Magnus has been rock climbing for 20 years and he can do a one arm muscle up, I'm not sure I can beat him in this department, physique maybe, grip strength maybe. . .Let's see what arm exercises he brings out and we'll have some fun with them!

A good example of two totally different definitions of "strength". Magnus is strong, but his is based more on endurance (think marathon runner). and Jon is more power and less endurance (Think sprinter). Both are strong, but developed it in different ways to achieve different tasks and can do things the other cannot. Overall a really nice video.

@@ice1 Well, Magnus was also complaining about tendon problems, and Juji and Tom aren't just weight lifters- they do so much on their channel that they can't just be classified solely as lifters. They were experiencing tendinitis from arm wrestling, actually. Any kind of constant resistance will help strengthen tendons- whether it be weightlifting or climbing or arm wrestling or baseball. But, indeed, climbers do tend to have stronger tendons, by necessity, as their tendons undergo so much constant trauma.

That takes forever to fix on a therapeutic stand point, and you don’t want that. Rest is essential, and plenty of it until you have controlled the symptoms. SuperAhmed1337 SuperAhmed1337 I dont think ondra is really a strength based climber. Of course he must be insanely strong as hes the best but his 'strengths' are his pure finger strength, flexibility, speed and mindset. I would say more like usobiaga even gullich and john gill (in their days). Jan hojer maybe and sharma, who was just naturally insanely strong. These guys are real strength based climbers. Patxi most of all. Yeah speed climbing is really its own thing. Finger strength (pure finger strength for crimps) isnt really a factor and there are zero static movements so the training must be pure explosion. I would say the core strength demands in speed would be much less as well. But yeah like u said speed is a funny little niche in climbing
