It's function is to bring consensus among members for global economic stability and on that role, it was able to gather consensus under the Indian leadership. As for Ukraine war, no diplomatic forum can bring the end to it until the two parties can reach some sort of compromise. Condemning Russia in g20 would not have helped Ukraine.

But first, maybe push to make the G20 relevant for the common people in the global south.

That puts the West in a hard spot doesn't it? When they don't talk about Africa, they are ignoring it. When they do talk, they are meddling in African affairs. Anyway, the situations in Africa are in part linked with the war against Ukraine. In part because Ukraine is not allowed to effectively export grain which increases food prices, and another because the global instability of the shifting geopolitical blocs that stimulates smaller wars and coups in areas previously in the Western or Russian spheres.

@@C-lp6jb Prior to colonial looting, India and China constituted the bulk of the world's economy. By the time colonial looters were done, India and China constituted just a fraction of the world's economy. And that's just 2 nations from the Global South.
