I think I'll go with Charlie Starr. That guy has a killer style.

I just dig watching that dude talk about stuff with a guitar in his hands too.

I've liked Blackberry Smoke for a long time. Charlie is a GREAT player and me and him have a TON of influences in common. He's one of my favorites and a true torch bearer for all of us southern boys that still love Skynyrd, ABB, and Marshall Tucker.
My "It Might Get Loud" redux picks: a) Keith Richards, Ed O'Brien, St Vincent b) Eric Clapton, Kim Thayil, Yvette Young c) Neil Young, Tom Morello, Scott Holliday All of these are a bizarre combination of eccentric personalities, playing styles, completely unique backgrounds, dichotomous lives lived & current, always a blues based player, always an effects based sound smith, always an eclectic/wildcard player. I'd watch any of these.

Dude. That rules. Especially number one but all of em.
John frusciante from the Chili peppers, is another guitar player who's influenced a lot of guitarists too
I still lean towards the guys I grew up with . I am 70 now so you should have an idea of the guys I'm talking about . I do agree with Billy Strings .
There's a great video of Tedeschi Trucks band and Warren Haynes is guest guitarist when Billy Strings shows up and starts jamming with the band. He and Derek are hitting it off, they are making some great music together. Poor old Warren though, he's looking like Eric must've looked that night in London when Jimi Hendrix asked if he could sit in with him. Because all of the sudden his amp wasn't working, or maybe it was the mic, Yeah just unplug the speaker cable and see if that works, and he used to play for the Alman Brothers🙄
The three current most influential guitars are still to this day Eddie Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix, and Jimmy Page!

Can't really argue with that.
I saw Slash and the Conspirators at Caesars Casino here in Windsor, Ontario. Good show.
Lighting and studio look great
Slash, Starr, Strings... second team Bonamassa, King and Jared James Nichols. I like everyone's list though!!
My third guy is John Notto from Dirty Honey.
All time: Jimi Rory G Gary Moore Page Paul Kossoff Today: Changes weekly
ZZ Top video on KZread with Billy Gibbons and Slash on stage together. It was cool trading solos. Then the camera pans to the other side of the stage and John Mayer kills them both. That was my introduction to Mayer.
My take on It Might Get Loud 2: Josh Homme, Slash and David Gilmour
6:11 You forgot Tremonti and Heafy. Bonamassa should up there and Jared Nichols maybe? Cheers from NZ 😎🎸🤘
the same Page, clapton, beck, Frampton, EVH, and many others
Slash and Sweet Child of Mine intro, is why I started learning guitar. There a countless Greats I’ve been put onto since, but THAT was the one that flipped that switch. 🤘🏻
I'm gonna grow with my music or my music will outgrow me! I'm gonna say, Chris Buck, Mathew Scott and the youngster comin' up... Taj Farrant! Of course I'm cheating by Totally Ig-Noring "commercially successful". These 3 guys are 3 of the very best guitarists Right Now. That's it. I'm stickin' with my decision. Lolin' And Chris Buck has played live with Slash, so that's close enough.

@@charlesbolton8471 I would love to, but I don't travel, for medical reasons. I Only Travel for medical reasons, Lol. I was within 5 miles of Casino Guitars last week but didn't have time to stop and visit as I was heading to Pinehurst for, you guessed it, a medical appointment! I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired... and in pain. Buck is A-mazing! Have fun, it's gonna be great!
I guess it depends on what you're doing at the moment. My three (actually four) would have to be Pete Thorn, Tim Pierce, Andy Wood, and Brent Mason. It's these guys due to what I'm learning from them. If we're talking commercial success (radio play and sales), I'd have to go back a bit. But it would be more than 3 because I'm from the 60's and 70's. So, I give up.
I would go with Mark Tremonti, but it's rare to hear people talk about Alter Bridge or his Tremonti side project or his signature guitar with PRS.
I get it now, works for me.
No issue with Billy Strings, but I would pick Monte Montgomery.
Baxter, Sean, and Jonathan! DUH!!! ❤
When I saw the thumbnail and realized I wasn't included I wept incessantly. I WILL BE AVENGED!
G'day Baxter & Jonathon, I always thought that the first movie was missing the generation between Jimmy Page & The Edge. Jack White should have invited Lindsey Buckingham too. A good, mid 1970's guitarist would have gone well with the rest of them. Keep up the good work Andrew
Derek Trucks Guthrie Govan Nuno Bettencourt Taj Farrant John Mayer (yes) Not Slash.. Yes he's cool.. but nothing lately Tim Henson Jared James Nicholas As a guitar tv nerd I feel these guys come up the most in conversations right now when talking about guys n the current.
Eric Johnson, Steve Hackett and Warren Haynes
Surprised Lenny Kravitz wasn’t mentioned nor Keith Urban or Brad Paisley.
I still love that movie...and all three. I'm also fifty so there is that. A Chapter Two?? EVH (RIP), John Mayer, and that polygamy kid (😂)

It’s Pigmy
In my opinion, most definitely 'RICHIE KOTZEN' should be notable on any influential guitar listing. Brilliant guitarist / Vocalist / Songwriter. In addition he is one of the few who actually 'USES' his signature guitars that he endorses! Cheers
I am 45 and I go from my idols..Page, Gilmour, Clapton, Peter Green,SRV, Rory Gallagher, Albert King, Gary Moore & my list goes on but I don't go for any new musicians much & if I do it's a here and there as music is not what it was back then.. Which was creative & Talented. But that's just me. 🤘🎸🤘

Not bad. Mine is Jimi, Rory, Page, Gary Moore, Paul Kossoff
I don’t think PhilX gets enough love as being a great guitarist 😎
Matteo Mancuso is eating everyone’s lunch. Guys like Vai and Johnson are talking about him. He’s far and away the best guitar player out there and I’m a Starr,Strings,King fanatic but this guys the best.
Great Case for Mayer and Slash, but after those 2, there is no real Third everyone can agree upon, it's not like there is a BB King, Prince or a Jeff Beck, all who could have been the Easy 3rd
My 3 patriarchs are: #1 Jeff Beck, followed by Eric Clapton and Gary Moore in no particular order. I'm a blues/ rock guy, so my opinions are going to be slanted toward that.
Y'all didn't wanna mention Joe Bonamassa? John Frusciante? I'd say they're both pretty influential. Shaped the way a lot of guitarists think and play. Both commercially successful.
It's gotta be a Major/Dominant Jam V A Mimor jam!!!.....
I agree with almost everything.... other than Slash... as much as I love Slash the clear answer is Clapton.
Paisley
Jared James Nichols, Bonamassa and Charlie Starr
oldies is tough. jimi, srv, evh and on and on not sure how you pick. modern is also tough. i dont think we are in a guitar hero phase right now although guitar is well represented in about any genre you can think of.
My alternate picks for the third spot would probably be Gary Clark Jr. (and not just because we share a name lol) or Joe Bonamassa. I think enough non players know who those guys are to be considered.
Tim Henson. Tosin Abasi. Billy Strings.
I'd put J Mascis ans the older player who is the huge influence today, with Tom Morelo in the middle and Beabadoobee as the young'n.
3rd would be Gary Clark jr...🎸🤟😎
Sorry, I got distracted by the cute little dog...what were we talking about...
EVH, Eric Johnson, John Mayer

Might be hard to contact Eddie for the jam.
I don’t know if anyone else will agree…but Tim Henson is pretty sick. Not exactly my type of music I usually listen to but I will from time to time. I like Buckethead but I know he’s not really commercial. And you just mentioned Polyphia…🤣. Derrick Trucks should be up there too!
disappointed to discover I'm not on the list :(
Anyone have an AI patience cover? It would sound amazing
I would choose John 5 as my number 3, Mayer and Slash are no brainers.
You have left out so many it is sad to rock and roll! I have listened to Mayer please take me back to the 60's and 70's
Its criminal how few mentions of Vai I'm seeing in these comments. Also they should have had Grohl instead of White in the movie
John Mayer, Tim Henson, and Dave Grohl would be my picks.
Bonamassa has to be the 3rd nerd! Slash, Vai, Bonamassa could be the next G3 IMO
Tim henson seems a natural 3rd to me
I honestly didn’t think Mayer was relevant any more and I have no idea who the 3rd guy is.
I have my top 3 and only one of them is Jimmy Page. The other two are Tim Henson and Jim Root, although Jim is just a personal favorite 😂😂
OH OH Polyphia vs Guthree Govan vs Billy strings???
Definitely Taylor Swift!

🤦
I’d love that grouping but have Dave Grohl interview/moderate
It’s about who is influencal. John Mayer, yes… but in all honesty I think it is the older guys! Simply because guitar players who have had great “ guitar hits” are generally pre-1999!!! Tremonti was hot in Creed even though his best playing is in Alter Bridge… Yet, most modern players love Eddie, Randy, Jimmy, Jimi , SRV etc
Tyler Bryant and Jared James Nichols
Yvette Young
James Hatfield Kirk Hammett
Joe Bonamassa
John Petrucci, Mark Tremonti, Guthrie Goven
I was fitna say Billy Strings!
@ryangunwitch-black

Dude. Billy Strings would rip on “Patience”.
Jesse Cook.
Vai Petrucci and Yngwie J Malmsteen
Santana!
How sad. For decades they were everywhere and now we have to dig for them and settle for less.
It’s always Jimmy and Jimi
Derek Trucks hands down
Jack white
John Mayer is 46
Billy Strings no big song? AwayFrom the Mire.
Mike Dawes.
I have never listened to Polyphia or Billy Strings...wouldnt know them if I fell over them! its hard to look past the guitar players from the Foo Fighters in regards to being successful and influenciall..Dave Grohl and Pat Smear aside, Chris Shiflett is quite loved. I also think Jack White is still very much on tip of things AND also Kirk Hammett...people love Kirk!
Well, l threw my phone 🤔😏
Joe Bonamassa?
We need more dog!
Walter Trout
John Mayer, Joe Bonamassa & Tim Henson.

Julian Lange…..
Derek trucks
Mateo mancuso
Now I might have a slightly controversial pick or maybe it’s my mid 40s age showing here but I think you could also say Tom DeLonge. Now here me out, he’s had multiple widely popular signature models from the top 2 guitar manufacturers, with blinks resurgence he has now influenced multiple generations to pick up and learn the guitar, he writes simply, clever, and catchy riffs that average beginner guitarist can learn and feel like a rock star playing, he’s been selling out areas recently and his other band Angels and Airwaves shows more of a dynamic side of his song writing and guitar playing technique.
Of current players I like Samantha Fish, Sophie Lloyd and Hurricane Nita Strauss! Old school hero's are SRV, May and Kath. Mayer, Slash, Starr, Marcin and Mancuso are all killer players too!
First two were no brainers. Third? First to mind was Tim Henson. 2nd was Molly Tuttle which brought me around to Billy Strings. So pretty darn good choices!
lol John Mayer would destroy slash. He’s got martial arts training 😂😂
Never heard of Billy strings either I like old blues guys. Joe Bonamassa is way more known than this Billy strings dude.
Billy Strings, John Mayer (LOTS of young people are now into the Dead), and Slash in that order, although Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle and Tommy Emannuel on the acoustic side. Sadly, Taylor Swift is probably the most influential guitar player but that's purely on a technicality. I would totally agree that Derek Trucks is the best single player currently on the planet. And yes, I hell hate U2. I could NOT keep that horrible free album off my phone. Completely ruined shuffle anticipating some horrible whiney screeching track might come up at any time.
Are we talking about influencing us suckers to buy more guitars,or to the general public and kids to start learning guitar? Because at the moment average kids watching KZread or TikTok are watching Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes and Taylor Swift and thinking they could copy that. Maybe Chris Stapleton? Slash, Bonamassa, Paul Gilbert and John Mayer aren’t inspiring people to learn to play, they’re selling gear to long time players. Currently I don’t see a rock band like Kiss or the Clash or the Who that people see and think they can pick up a guitar and do what they are doing- which is really influential.
billy strings? seriously? he's an exceptional player, but bluegrass is about as niche as niche gets... unless you're in North Carolina... his appeal is extremely limited.
Most influential right now? Like right now? I dont see how it couldnt be taylor swift.
What’s the cap on the older guy? Because I’d say more non-guitar players would think of Hendrix before Slash.
