I don't think people understood how monumental this was at the time. Whitney had been around since the 80s and the style of R&B had drastically changed. Many of the 80s greats had fallen off and struggled to keep their sound current without losing their authenticity which is common in the cycle of music and entertainment, but this era of Whitney proved again and again that she was timeless. Not only that, she was able to toggle between mainstream cuts and more urban sounds. Proving she had a range that could stand the test of time. This is a feat not many today can even accomplish.

Ariana actually replaced that horrible hologram of Whitney on performances with Christina Aguilera. Exactly. I found out that the Waiting to Exhale cd was written by Babyface for Whitney only. Just like the Bodyguard. But she told him she wanted to share the songs with others.
