Whitewater Rafting the Middle Fork of the American River

The Middle Fork of the American River was known to make Gold miners rich in the 1800’s. Today, it's one of Northern California's top destinations for whitewater rafters looking for thrill. The 17-mile trip includes multiple class III and IV rapids including the famed Tunnel Shoot. You can also see the coveted class VI Ruck-a-Chucky Falls, which is only to be dropped by experts.

Nice video, but I didn’t see any ours... plenty of paddles though. Second, with no disrespect to Tyler, claiming he’s the most experience guide in Northern CA is a bold statement. There are plenty of legends out there. Glad you had an amazing trip.

Wow, I live here in Auburn and walk the Middle Fork at the bottom of the canyon, this is an area I have not seen. The canyon is very popular to inexperienced swimmers and due to the water release times for the rafters, there is a lot of water rescues from the rocks when people get stuck due to the increased flow. A very cool video!

You went down RUCK-A-CHUCKY FALLS?!? That’s super impressive!! They don’t send everyone down because it’s a super dangerous rapid, and it takes a lot of skill. Most rafting companies just send the boats down with no one in them (not even a guide). This is because the middle fork used to be used for mining, and that’s how some of the rapids were created. Below the rapid there’s a lot of shrapnel and rusted metal. So if you fell in you’d most definitely die because you’d get stuck or impaled or cut. That’s just what my guides told me, so not sure if it’s 100% true or not.

This is a good trip, but that 8 or 9 miles of calm in the middle can be kind of a b***h on a hot day with strong upstream winds. Because of this, I think this run is better run as a 2- or 3-day trip. Break up that middle section into 2 or 3 days, then it is not so tiring.

Great Video, except at 7.39 you are trespassing on Private Property and a Federally Deeded Mining Claim. Furthermore, it is not a mine shaft, it is a hydrolic cut from up above that has been covered over. Furthermore, filming yourself breaking the law and posting it for others is not exactly professional. Everyone else who has posted this has been asked to remove it, or to remind viewers it is private property.
