This is the biggest budget given to a black director, black writer, black majority cast, and cast with a black lead in 100+ years of cinema history. The US is a country where the first black woman to receive an Oscar in 1939, Hattie McDaniel, had her speech written for her. A piece of it read "I sincerely hope I shall always be a credit to my race". 2. The scale of the promotion of a primarily black movie is unprecedented. This was the first project like it to receive international, mass media coverage. Attached to a media giant like Marvel/Disney we've never seen such press for a primarily black film in history 3. This is a movie showing not just black people, but black Africans, in a positive, powerful light. In previous decades black people were largely portrayed as slaves, servants, criminals, bums, junkies, sidekicks, belligerent, buffoons, irrelevant side characters, or excluded entirely. Also notable that Black women are being portrayed positively as well. 4. Black youths finally have a wide variety of positive images they can see themselves in because the people embodying them actually look like them. Children are very aware of media portrayal of their group as well as other groups by the time they're 5. That has a massive impact on their self esteem and psychological/emotional development. Anything showing black people doing well (or better than whites), whether real or fictional, is inherently political because the powers that be are not black.

I think that there is a misconception when people say they didn’t like the movie. There are many people out there who are reading the comics (including myself) and the movie didn’t quite match up with them.

Im mexican Just felt the need to say that for some reason.

While this is fake, Black people(as one myself) shouldn’t gate keep this movie to just black people. Anyone should watch the movie for any reason.

The only thing that I find frustrating about these Marvel movies, is that you have to watch all the individual hero movies to get the background story of the hero character, before watching any of the Avenger movies. I rented the first Avengers movie without watching all the other movies, and I didn't know anything about all the different characters, and the movie didn't make any sense at that time.

Movie was alright at best for me. Marvel itself is becoming kinda stale. Black panther was the last marvel film I watched. I didn't watch infinity war and I'm probably not going to watch captain marvel. Most likely Spiderman far from home though.

Did you know black people have been fighting for England as English soldiers since before the Revolutionary War. Historically speaking there would be black English soldiers in WW2. Did you know black Americans have been in every American war? What do you think the effects of many wars followed by a drug epidemic does to a small ostracized group of people?

Blacks and whites sell drugs at similar rates but due to policing priorities and double standards in prosecution and sentencing as well as some social factors such as drugs being delivered to houses in the suburbs and sold on a street corner in the ghetto, black people get sentenced to prison for dealing drugs 5-6 times as often.

Black panther is supposedly taking place in Africa, Africa is a predominantly black continent, the cast were all black because it's realistic. That simple lol.
