WHITE NIGHTS
With this classical music playlist inspired by Fyodor Dostoevsky's story, we aimed to create our personal soundtrack - one that hopefully captures the atmosphere of the book, as it follows the relationship between the main character, a self-proclaimed «dreamer», and Nastenka.
Like many of Dostoevsky's stories, "White Nights" is told in the first person by a nameless narrator. The narrator is a young man living in Saint Petersburg who suffers from loneliness. He gets to know and falls in love with a young woman, but the love remains unrequited as the woman misses her lover, with whom she is finally reunited.
«I am a dreamer. I know so little of real life that I just can't help re-living such moments as these in my dreams, for such moments are something I have very rarely experienced. I am going to dream about you the whole night, the whole week, the whole year...»
FIRST NIGHT: «It was a wonderful night, the kind of night, dear reader, which is only possible when we are young…»
0:00:00 Schubert (arr. Liszt) - Schwanengesang, D. 957: No. 4, Ständchen (Serenade)

0:17:42 Chopin - Waltz in F Minor, Op. Posth. 70, No. 2
0:21:03 Chopin - Waltz in E Minor, Op. Posth., B. 56
SECOND NIGHT: «I lived, as they say, on my own, that is, absolutely alone - alone, completely alone - do you understand what it means to be alone?»
0:24:03 Chopin - 24 Preludes, Op. 28: No. 4 in E Minor
0:26:23 Tchaikovsky - 6 Pieces, Op. 19: No. 4 in C-Sharp Minor, Nocturne
0:30:52 Tchaikovsky - The Seasons, Op. 37a: No. 6, June. Barcarolle
«And you ask yourself: Where are your dreams? And you shake your head and say: How quickly do the years fly by! And again you ask yourself: What have you done with your years? Where have you buried your best days? Did you live or not?»
0:36:09 Fauré - Pavane, Op. 50
0:42:47 Bach (arr. Busoni) - Toccata, Adagio and Fugue in C Major, BWV 564: II. Adagio

@RosCharron, A great love story for sure. And all three pianists (Chaimovic, Martino and Ashkenazy) all played very well the masters' compositions. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ The end of the story is the beginning of the two elderly's love and that's all which matters. 👵🕊️😇🙏❤️ A beautiful story.
