I'm a brown skinned man, & despite how I am mixed, and live in the Bible Belt, but I know, the acts of some folks respecting white folks' showing their fashion privileges, yet questioning some mixed race folks, (questioning eitha' a few of our clothing/ accessory choices, or kinda worrying about if we are straight or gay, or bi), shooot, white folks go through less of that. Yet, just like there are black folks uniting more, some mixed race folks have been uniting a bit more. Cause, the just white, and just black folks don't fully understand what it is like, living in our mixed identities. The pastor John Gray, would maybe see me, as being an almost confused 'black' man, but I am black, Tuscaroran Indian, & Black Foot Indian.

I worked in the Dominican Republic at a women’s health hospital. The doctors and nurses who were, the same complexion as me or darker, were soooo bigoted towards Haitian mothers who were coming to DR to deliver their babies. They were just outright mean. I had a couple of white midwives who could no longer stand and did not complete the medical mission. I don’t care if a person says that they’re nationality is Dominican. But to deny that your black is not African is ridiculous and ignorant.

Worked in Italy 🇮🇹 with lots of black Dominican Republic guys around 2008-2010, the the company we worked for then brought them from a certain company in Milan to my coastal city of 500,000 people back then. One day there is a certain discussion going on and the guy who happened to be their boss who came from west Africa country of Ivory Coast jokingly told one of the black Dominican man that they are Africans taken away from Africa and the Dominican guy said no, their never from Africa and this led to a lots of arguments and the Dominican guys were many, they were aware of the facts that their ancestors were taken from Africa and rest of the rest of the Dominican guys kept mute as the man were arguing that their not from Africa but as soon as the very guy who was arguing leave the scene, the rest now spoke out and told the Ivorian guy that they knew that they are from Africa but they do not want to admit that their from Africa in the presence of the very man who is ashamed of his African ancestry. The sad thing about the man is that he wasn't mixed either, if you go to Italy, Spain and even here in Sweden where i live currently, Afro Dominican women and ladies only makes babies with white males and some of them can be extremely discriminatory towards other black folks.

This is a mixed issue. The majority of the Dominican Republic is mostly Caucasian or Mixed. However, there are approximately 800,000 AfroDominicans/Dominicans of Afrikan ancestry. There were three migrations The Ladinos were brought to European colonists as indentured workers from Spain. When referring Spain, ever heard of the Moors? They were a group of Afrikan Muslims that occupied Al-Andalus aka Spain and Portugal, as well as some parts of Italy and Sicily during the Middle Ages. The 19th and 20th centuries when black immigrants from the British West Indies populated. They are the Cocolos. The third migration was AA FBA Black folks from the U.S. who immigrated to the Dominican Republic in 1824. These were known as the Samana. They inhibit the Samaná Province in the eastern region of the Dominican Republic. The Afro Dominican population can now be found in most parts of the country, from coastal areas such as San Cristobal and San Pedro de Macoris to deep inland areas such as Cotui and Monteplata. However, the southeast portion of the country and the border region have the highest concentrations of Black people in the country, while the central Cibao region has the lowest. Not every Dominican of Afro ancestry hates their lineage. Those who are informed tend to be more emotionally aware. Rosa Acosta and Ayisha Diaz etc.

Quite a number of, many of the Dominican females (regardless of where they actually reside: New York, Florida, Texas,;the DR & etc....) don't think like or have that level of self-identity such as entertaining rappers such as 'Cardi B' or 'Dutchess'; inclusively, If we're talking about putting the biological fathers first, quite a number of said Dominicans are actually not really Dominican as according to a Patriarchy type method, being that a number of them stem from various foreign White fathers of: Italian, French, German, Slovakian - Eastern European ancestry, culture & heritages. Black males of the DR do generally encourage their females to "Go White" but USA Black males have also always done likewise (as it applies to our various [basically 5] shades of Blackness - Melanation; adding to this, USA Black females typically do the same when dating outside their own Black racial group; per example: check out who is usually the person openly and willingly to pay all expenditures when purchasing entertainment, clothes, groceries & etc.... while dating males of other racial stocks - in general, the Black female partners!

But as far as choosing whites, both DR and Kenya do that automatically. In Kenya, the girlfriends will stab each other in the back just to be with the white guy. In DR it’s more about a hustle and scam towards the whites. In Kenya they worship them more because they feel they will give them a better life. Not true my guy. That is the problem of generalizing. Ask any white people that go to Southern Africa and ask if the local women are fetishizing over them. Not at all. Some of this has to do with poverty yes and some low self esteem and believing white is better. Lets not insult poor people, many white people vacation in Jamaica for example but its not as if the average person is trying to get with them, only a very small percentage. The other thing is while he is correct, Oshay leaves out an interesting fact that while African Americans are very proud most of the guys would rather deal with mixed girls than pure black women when going for their sexual conquests overseas, not all but in the sex tourist spots that seems to be the case, so they are just as guilty in perpetuating the myth the same kind of twisted thinking.

What makes you Black? I'm a dark skinned African American who knew a Dominican guy who I thought was my friend. One day he called me the N word and said he wasn't Black although he was two shades darker than my maternal grandmother. I told my grandmother about this and said "if your last name was Spanish you wouldn't consider yourself Black". She looked me right in the eyes and said,"I know I'm Black,he doesn't". I didn't know Latinos use the term "improve the race"until recently. This incident happened in the 80's when I was in highschool. We in the African American community use the term "marrying up"when someone dark skinned marries a light skinned person but we still consider someone light skinned Black. But Latinos don't think the same way we do. It bothers me because there are a range of complexions in my family like there are in most Black families,we all are together and consider ourselves Black regardless of skin tone. But because of what White people have done to people of color around the world we think they are or anything close to it is superior. We need to free our minds of that

Before the civil war. Our women/girls and some men/boys were graped by pale ones. Without being deleted couldn't say no to massa or his crew. Actual Fact that is.

There are black women in the US who have this same mindset. I have seen some of the most beautiful educated dark skin light skin, brown skin sisters in Americans dating Shaggy from Scooby-Doo or a fat white guy. I've had black women who have dated or known tell me to my face or in phone conversation that white men are better than black men, and some of these black women were raising black sons. The ironing and all this is that some of these same black women were married to good black men and still have this mindset that their husband is less than his white counterpart.

I lived in DR, and I did see some discrimination against the Hattian people. As a black American, my experience was completely different in a positive way.

I have lived in the Dominican Republic for almost 10 yeasrs. Matter of fact.I am married to a Dominican woman(we been together for almost 10 years married 8years).Thank God I haven't not went throught any of this nonsense. Also she is lightier than me(I am a black american).Sometimes I am mistaken to be a Domnican.Anyway, the island is beautiful(I have traveled all over it).The people are very friendly and respectful. So my problem is this.Where is all this nonsense coming from?!!! If anything they have problems with the Asians a the Hatians. You must be talking about some of the Dominicans in New York city.

Exactly these people never been to Dr but talk as if they know what all Dominican People think, it's all propaganda paid for by white society to keep blacks divided..or from working together with other groups that will help advance us as people...the respect level that Dominican Women show a man is enuff to build a nation especially if it's a western man making money joining together to form a strong partnership

Why would a Dominican woman marry you? You must have money or giving the immigration process to USA. To me as a Dominican woman and most DR women I know, Black men are viewed as uglyyy

Bruh everyone has their faults. Many Africans that immigrated to the USA were treated very badly by African Americans. Even black Americans who claim to be proud of being black engage in self hate. My opinion is to each their own, there are good folk and bad folk.
