yeah most parent do that. They kids grow up and learn english and the parents who moved here dont really pick it up too well or only know barely enough just to get by . Texas if you work in customer service youll run into a lot of that. Youll have young kids ordering for entire family. They only speak their native tongue at home but english out in public. Its dope

Totally support you learning mandarin but little hack is if you also talk to people with interest in English they will also do this....well mayb3 not dumpling sauce

The last guy reaction was one of the most genuine reactions I've ever seen. The guy started kinda grumpy, but as you first spoke Chinese, he had already felt something different about you, then you started speaking Spanish and he got so happy! Very cool!

I am really impressed. He can speak Chinese languages, Spanish and English which means that he can communicate with most people in the world

Honestly, no one is truly evil by nature. Being able to speak to people in the language they were born learning is just a really easy way to allow people to feel closer to you. It makes you more "one of them" instead of a "foreigner." Don't forget that learning languages is difficult, so a lot of these non-english speaking people who live in america are actually somewhat ashamed of not being able to communicate with others very well. This especially applies in a service environment like a restaurant. They want to give the best service out of pride and simple economic necessity. When they feel they can communicate fully with someone, it's a relief.

I mean, everyone who lives in country, where english is not native lang, people will appreciate if U can or just try to speak in their lang.. I am Slovak and our people are loving and are so surprised an curious if some tourist speak in Slovak, even knowing a few basic phrazes is icebraking.

@@iCynnie it depends where they're from. if as a foreigner, you speak japanese in tokyo, nobody will bat an eye because so many foreigners go there every day. but if you go to less populated or urban areas, people are more likely to be impressed or surprised.

That’s how I feel. My mom is Brazilian and my dad is Mexican. I moved to Hong Kong 5 years ago and I speak Cantonese and mandarin now. It’s really nice to see their faces when you speak

As a chinese person, I have encountered many westerners that can speak chinese, but can always have that wierd accent. But you don't, and I think you took a long time to fix that. I appreciate how much work you put in on trying to learn a new language.

2020 has left me locked up at home, but I love being able to talk to everyone! I really wanna go out and practice languages! Which one is your favorite interaction? 你最喜欢哪个对话呢？

@3:52 i recently started learning Mandarin and I watch these videos just trying to see how much more I’m progressing and I have probably rewatched Chris videos like 10 times but I actually recognized every character in that sentence except for the one that combines the radical 辶 and 不. I know they’re all overall pretty basic 字 but just to be able to recognize 90% of a sentence is a first for me. I know nobody will prob see this but just wanted to type this so If somebody does like it, I will remember this moment.

@@Ethan-uz8nq I was born in South America and have lived in the U.S. for most of my life. Trust me when I say, there is no offence in your statement. Just truth. Sadly, many Americans don't have that self awareness because they haven't had that experience, so they expect English to be spoken everywhere and are annoyed when it is not.
