White Belt BJJ: Common Mistakes

Спорт

charliefromtheplaza
Charlie From The Plaza here. Here's what not to do as a new white belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Don't try to tap your opponent when you're in their guard.

As a white belt, it's great to see a B.J.J video with a sense of humour. It makes the dauntingly complex world of B.J.J feel just that bit more approachable. Would love to see a video on a simple closed guard armbar. Keep up the good work!!!

+Harvey rivera most of the guys who just started a couple of years ago have no idea how lucky they are. There are all these techniques out there, u just have to search for it and take it. Same with sparring matches. look at marcelo for instance, he has tons of rolls on youtube, back in the days u maybe have to travel to another country to see him roll for 1-2 hours. Its out there guys, take it.

Don't worry about it, we're in the same boat...white belt is the time to learn that what you are doing is all wrong, not the time to learn that at blue belt, purple, etc. you will fix most of your issues at the early white belt stages, I've seen upper-level white belts that seem to be at a blue belt level at least and it's because they've learned these basics and apply them very well.

when i first started jiujitsu a couple years ago i made these mistakes so many times no matter how much my coach told me to refrain from it...I even saw newer guys come in and they were earning stripes before me and i eventually got so frustrated and got tired of the whole team tapping me out all the time i quit BJJ...Then I started doing my homework (videos, going to other schools and picking up books)....I came across this video and some other ones like White Belt: where to start and immediately noticed some things i had been doing wrong that my coach had been trying to show me all along....it was like i was watching myself rolling and doing all the newbie stuff...i decided to pick up my face and headed back over to the same gym and try everything all over again....I'm still a white belt but i have since earned two stripes on my belt just by changing a couple of simple things i learned from watching this...thanks

I remember when i was still within a few months of my 1st year in BJJ, i was able to tap another newbie while i was in his guard with a keylock, so of course, i thought i figured out some awesome trick.. wasn't long after when i learned that was a bad move when i tried it on a few more experienced guys and it worked against me, lol. Great video guys!
