WHITBY | The ultimate seafront tour of Whitby
Welcome to Whitby in North Yorkshire, England. This seaside town is famous for it's town, Whitby Abbey and Dracula, but what is the town and seafront like? Is there a Whitby Beach? We find out.
Also watch our tour of Scarborough beach - • SCARBOROUGH | Full tou...
We visit Whitby for a wander along the seafront, harbour and beach, with a walk through Whitby Town Centre too to have a look at the things to see and places to go in Whitby when you're on your seaside holiday here.
People come from all the world to visit Whitby UK. With it's picturesque harbour, and it's steep steps leading up to the Abbey and of course the beautiful beaches, piers and historic streets, it's easy to recommend a holiday in Whitby England.
We start at the railway station and head down New Quay Road passing the famous Trenchers Fish and Chips restaurant. There's a huge debate as to what is the best fish and chips in Whitby. It seems to be a close tie between Trenchers and The Magpie Fish and Chips Restaurant although we'd also add Fishermans Wife into the mix
From Trenchers we can see The Endeavour Experience ship docked in the harbour. Well worth a visit on your day trip or Whitby Holiday.
Coming round New Quay Road we can see all the various boat trips that travel from here out to sea and back with amazing views of Whitby and the North Yorkshire Coast. The boat trips here include Yorkshire Coast Boat Trips, Whitby's Old LIfeboat Trips and the Black Pearl Pirate Boat Trips.
You can also head out to sea on a fishing trip courtesy of LibbyFishing or Tilly-Mae Whitby Fishing Trips.
Further along we come to the star of the show in the harbour, Whitby Bridge. The bridge crosses the River Esk and lifts and opens for ships to pass underneath.
We then head into the streets of Whitby Town along Sandgate, Bridge Street and Church Street and pop into Abbey Wharf in the shadow of Whitby Abbey that looms down from the top of the 199 steps (that I didn't attempt on this trip!)
Many people mistake The Church Of St Mary (or St Mary's Church) with Whitby Abbey when they look up the cliffside. It's actually mostly the church you can see from the town and harbour with the Abbey tucked away behind it.
Coming back along the seafront we head along St Anne's Staith and Haggersgate where we see The Dracula Experience, a spooky guided walk through the world of Dracula which is heavily linked to the town courtesy of Bram Stoker's novel.
Our Whitby Tour then continues along Pier Road, past Quayside and Harrys Lounge and past the famous Magpie Cafe fish and chips restaurant.
Above us us the Khyber Pass and the Whalebone Arch replica of a whales jaw bone that stands next to the Captain Cook Memorial outside the Royal Hotel.
Whitby Bandstand looks out to the River Esk and out to sea and close by are some of the amazing artwork and statues that have been installed recently that I really love.
No Whitby Holiday can be complete without a walk past the Gun Battery and Fisherman's Wife and down onto Whitby Beach for a walk along the sandy beach or a paddle in the sea. Here you will find lighthouses and donkeys for donkey rides as well as the waves of the sea lapping onto the beach.
You can also see Sandsend from here up the North Yorkshire Coast if you look hard enough.
But we wanted to finish this Whitby Walking Tour in style with an amazing view of the town from the pier so we make the journey along West Pier (With East Pier opposite) and along to one of the two lighthouses before ending our seaside tour right out to sea on the underside of the pier, watching the boats come sailing by on the sea.
The views from here at fantastic with views of Whitby Harbour, the town, the abbey, the 199 steps and more.
For your next holiday or day trip I fully recommend to come and visit Whitby England.

I’m from Kentucky in the US. I first visited Whitby in the early 70’s with my husband, who was in the US Air Force stationed at RAF Chicksands in Bedford. We went to Yorkshire with British friends and spent two weeks in the Dales. I’m going back in May with my daughter. This video brought back so many memories. I’m looking forward to being back in Yorkshire.
I’ve only ever had a brief visit to Whitby, so this visit was a pleasure, I feel as if I know it a lot more now. I loved the little narrow streets and little shops, just so full of character and a lovely atmosphere. It’s a lovely seaside town, and thanks to your video I can see that there is a lot more to see there than I thought . The beach is lovely as well. .I did bite my nails though when you were going down those steps towards the end 🫣😬 Well thanks for a lovely weekend of long seaside videos, they have been so enjoyable and the summer breeze really has carried me away. Thank you.

Thank you. I am 50 and living in the Midlands, as a child never went anywhere costal, your channel is helping me to learn about the places I have missed out on, the beauty and the buildings. I expect I wouldn't have appreciated it like that as a youngster of course. It is so amazing to see places so clearly and without relentless commentary. I have been to a few beaches in the UK Mersea Island in 1995 and Crosby Beach in 2008, both in Winter. Crosby was freezing cold lol, took a drive from Liverpool to see the beach and Anthony Gormley statues. I have been on beaches in Spain, but my knowledge of the UK is virtually zero. I did visit Borth in Wales around 1993 or something. Terrible wasted life I have lead. Thanks for helping me to make up for it. I am playing the videos at X2 speed and pausing here and there to read signs and things. Thanks again. I am hoping to watch loads more in the next few weeks.
Your filming is second to none. I love how you show everything of interest, and views from different angles. Made me feel that I was there, on such a beautiful day. Thanks so much. 🙏❤😘

Sadly its overpriced these days. I had a chance to buy a flat there in the town in 1999 for about 34k, I turned it down as there was no easy parking. Obviously I regret it now because of the skyrocketing prices. Ah well :(
What a beautiful Video of my Beloved Whitby, the Filming on this glorious of Days is absolutely 1st Class. It was lovely to see that Church Street & area has kept with their Original Shop Fronts! Whitby has remained unspoilt & has maintained it's Special Character & Charm, this Video Highlights & prooves this!! Thank You so much for sharing 💜

To Keith Hudson. Yes, an untapped source - video visits! Personally my "handicap" is not being able to stand hot places. In Spain, I could only go out for half a day - every SECOND day - I had to recover from the SUN, and THE HEAT! But I therefore came up trumps, when , on such a video, I saw a wonderful exhibition from the Cadillac Owners Club - on a baking hot day in California! I left a comment, sending greetings from London, (which they liked) , and a message that although I would never personally have been able to see it - due to not being good with heat. But I could still see it, in comfort, from my cooler living room! Good luck, by the way, with your PTSD. As a health researcher, I would something simple but effective for that! A can of GINGER ALE! One can of that, and you will be a new person! Stress burns our vitamins and minerals, even if we have been eating well, but GINGER (which the Asians and Orientals know about) cured my own PTSD recently! The answer is that simple!
love this without music i cant get out and about for me its just like being there thank youxx

Thank you! Last here in March time- before season opens - 2 yrs before the pandemic. Stayed for several days at one of the pub/hotels. Seen a few changes, a few shops gone. Still lots of Jet, sweets & tat! The Whitby Jet Museum in the Chapel was not open when we were there. It looks interesting. Glad to see Magpies going strong after their fire. Fab food in there. So many great fish n chips places too. Seagulls as bad as ever! Nice to see Capt Cook Museum still open. Its very interesting in there. When did you film this as quite surprised at how many shops & cafes were not open. I'd say it was early June, midweek, school day. I've walked over that swing bridge when it was heaving with people. I need to go back again. Have to try this year I think. That was a lovely walk down memory lane. Thanks x
