Whatever the reason they say gps is for it is all a bit too surveillance for me. Everything will be covered soon and no it does not deter theft. That is the excuse used to put them on and us to accept it.

Hi Simon, went into Halfords the other week, wanted to buy a torch, that had a tag of some description on, I had to ask the assistant to remove it, don't know if it was gps, but he took it off, obviously they are getting stuff pinched, theft has gone up I think

I suspect that the GPS tracker is another myth like the old TV detector vans; it is probably just a security tag that needs to be de-sensitized at the checkout. Tags of that type have been used in Australian supermarkets on meats and other higher value products for at least 15 years. People just tear the wrapper to remove the tag and put the product into a plastic bag and pass it through the self serve checkout as carrots or some other low cost produce item. The biggest "hole in the wall" here in Australia is people going through a self serve checkout, scanning all their items and then simply walking out without paying. I have seen it happen on several occasions involving sums of $200-$300.

When I first visited Whitby 23 years ago the Coop had a lovely cake counter.

We have the trackers in our local Coop but doesn’t seem to stop the shoplifters unfortunately.

Even worse. Well most cities have had them for a long while. It did not stop a travelling community from running out with 2 trollies full where I live in North Yorkshire area.

This has been happening in Liverpool for months. I froze some braising steak when I tried to defrost sparks were flying all over my microwave. There was a metal strip in it 😮

Being a Grandad Wouldn't be without the air fryer. Fresh chips with a spray of 1cal olive oil luvvly. If its small enough and you can do it in the oven or under a grill then the air fryer is just the job. Wrap a chicken breast in silver foil and cook it for 45 mins ish succulent and beautiful.

No wonder you're around the clearance counter when you paid £1,750 for your Xmas Dinner. UTB 😊

Henry Westons Vintage cider is my absolute favourite cider. Thatchers and Aspall's are also quality ciders. I can't be doing with fake ciders like bulmers, magners and you don't want to look at the ingredients list for strongbow.. Enjoy your vino collapse, cheers Simon

Neither if us eat red meat - I'm a sad veggo, the lady likes chicken as well as Whitby fish and scampi, of course - but it's still sad to hear of that happening in the Co-op. We loved shopping there when we were in Whitby

I avoid the coop like the plague.nothing like they used to be. Hardly anything fresh.

It is a sad indictment on society when a simple steak costing a fiver has to be locked in a GPS box as a deterrent against shoplifting.

What the hell have we come too having to put trackers on meat!! Ee, we are at a noit!!!

thanks for the info, will check out Herons next time we're there. We found lots of cheap lunch goodies and cleaning supplies in Poundland....a shop we became quite reliant on in the U.K. We don't have anything like it in Australia. The Reject Shop or NQR are the most similar.

The movie 'running man' put the trackers up people's noses... I suppose that's more of a simply snuff post tho. Anyway, are you sure the GPS trackers are being put on the steaks at the co opt? or are they part of the tag the farmers put on the cows ear while at the farm?

No GPS it’s a scare tactic. Might have small RFID tag on the box the ones that set the alarm off at the door.

Any self respecting theif should be able to remove or deactivate any anti theft device in seconds, a powerful magnet will interfere with signal enabeling you to leave store without activating alarms and gps.

Its the CO-OP, what do you expect. All their food is a ridicules price. Cheaper to go to Waitrose or get a taxi to Asda
