Whit Stillman on Austen and "Metropolitan"

Ғылым және технология

Filmmaker Whit Stillman's fascination with all things Austen filters through his entire oeuvre, beginning with his first film "Metropolitan." Here he details for ASU Professor of English and author of "The Making of Jane Austen," Devoney Looser, how research into late 18th and early 19th century English culture livened up key moments of comedy and drama for his film "Love and Friendship," starring Kate Beckinsale.

Thank you for posting this video. Metropolitan has so many subtle internals happening at once, the film must be seen several times to absorb them. Each time I view the film it becomes more enjoyable. It is wonderful to hear Mr. Stillman's thoughts on what was happening in several critical scenes. An excellent film which this interview helps to bring out even more clearly.

I wish Mr Stillman would make an adaptation of Mansfield Park! I love the fact that Audrey is virtuous, shy and kind, but never presented as boring or less interesting because of it.
