Awesome explanation, thanks for this. Just got this game. Example games like this make new games so much easier to learn.

Your camera set up is very impressive. Love the close ups! Don’t know how you keep it all straight.

I don't know why I was expecting like a twist on Whistle Stop, but this looks really different. Great runthrough as always Richard, thank you!

hi, small question about the whirlpool meeples. At 7:14. When you put the hot air balloon on the save-a-meeple-space, do you also pay 2 gold for rescuing a fallen meeple at the whirlpool? Or is this workerplacement for free? Thanks for the feedback :-) -- Lidewij and Tom form Belgium

When you place a ship in the Rescue Dock that's the "cost" of performing that action, you don't pay the 2 gold

Love engine builders such as this - Energy Empire being a top 15 game. I wonder about the theme - it feels a little disconnected even with the wonderful artwork. Is there enough here to justify a thematic gameplay, or is this mostly just working through mechanisms? Wonderful review as always Rahdo.

the theme is a bit wonky, but kind of charming, the idea of steampunk-ish zepplins zipping around a towering monolithiic contraption built in the 1800's american territory :)

46:04 - building on a worker puts that worker to work right? ;) So Jen should get 5 points for building +1 iron +1 point - from the machine. Is this correct? ;]

No... When ou build a machine you Promote the workers that are on the spaces occupied by the machine, they are moved out of the spot they were in before the machine is built so they don't activate it

41:08 Won't be better for Jen to like retreive her baloon till she gets all the cards on the deck for free? Without spending any resource, any time she gets to the card worker spot she can have 1 card for free. Is there anything preventing her from doing it?

Rules error i think. The rulebook is a a bit ambiguous on this but I’m positive that In order to place a machine at all it has to be on top of an area with a worker on the scaffolding. In other words you must be able to promote a worker (either your own or your opponents) in order to place a machine.

31:30, but really the majority of the video. Why do you only have 2 upgrades out? Shouldn’t it be 3....even in a 2-player game?

As always, great video. Think I'm gonna pass on this one; the whole theme doesn't make any sense to me. Why are we building scaffolding and machines in a flooding valley?

I don't get it. If both of you can use it, why not just build the thing with the most points?

  • @rahdo

because the more points its worth, the less is produces useable stuff

Yes, but if I understand correctly, once you built it all players can use it, so it doesn't matter.

@@rubyalexey8692 it matters if i've got more of a resource or less of a resource than you do, and therefore i value it more or less. or if i've got a special power that used a particular resource that again makes it more valuable to me, or if i'm about to elminate a certain type of resource being harvestable via scaffolding (by covering it up) and maybe i want that to still be available (or maybe i don't since i've already got some and you're out of it)

basically this is a VERY high scoring game, and getting a couple extra points here or there from building a slightly weaker machine (which gives a tiny bit of extra VP) is inconsequential compared to being able to ensure you can get the resources you need for what you're planning to do
