    Found this channel over the summer just looking for a whiskey review. I then started at episode #1 and have slowly been working my way through them. It has been fascinating to watch things progress, to see the subscribers and commenters grow, and just become more and more entertained by you guys. I have not commented before, but had to after this episode. A friend of mine and I watched Frisky Dingo many years ago and continue to this day to amuse ourselves with random quotes from the series. I have never run into anyone else that has ever heard of the show, much less quotes it. You are truly gentlemen of distinction. Boosh! (and/or Kakaw)

    @@ROBERT-ml7ml Double black is very similar to the Black Label, basically the same whiskies, but in different proportions. So one who tastes one believing it to be the other and not noticing the difference isn't that big of a deal at all. I can tell them apart, but those are two of the couple dozen bottles I have in my collection, so I have them pretty regularly. Not the case with Daniel and Rex, who seldom have any Johnnie Walker.

    I received a bottle of Johnnie Walker Green around 10 years ago from some co-workers. This was long before I started down the path into the wonderful world of whisky, so I just put it away and forgot about it. This episode reminded me that I had it and prompted me to go open it! As I’m new to the whisky world, I would love to know your thoughts. I picked up coffee initially and a slight bit of chocolate. What else should I be looking for in this blend? By the way, my wife thanks you both for making her holiday gift decisions for me much easier now. Keep up the great work!

    So I picked up a Black Bottle earlier this week due to your recommendation back in episode 45 as an entry into smokey/peated whiskey. While it is more "complicated" than most of my prior whiskey experience, I don't find it to be exactly "challenging" or "aggressive" like you have described. Does that mean I'm ready to venture into some of the Islay SM like Ardbeg or Laphroaig?

  • @WhiskeyVault

    @WhiskeyVault

    6 жыл бұрын

    No, Black bottle is about 25% down the path of a true Islay. But don't let that stop you. Hit up the Laphroaig 10 next, and jump straight into the deep end.

    DB is flavorful and smooth! Personally, i find it friendlier than black bottle by a hair. I find the peat to be very friendly, not the harshness of iodine at all. I have so many scotch whiskies in my collection but for a while this was my go to until I finished it.

    I tried the double black once. It was nice. But my tastebuds prefer the regular Black Label. As much as I love Lagavulin 16 as my all time favourite single malt, And as much as I enjoy Chivas Regal 18 yr old for its smooth and rich flavour, my go to blend that I enjoy on a regular basis is JWBL. It's readily available in any bar I go to, and it's also always stocked in my home. I love the uniqueness of all these scotches, but I'm pragmatic and say make one of the most accessible brands your go to because you'll never find yourself without an option when enjoying socially

  • @WhiskeyVault

    Yeah, I think I agree on the black. Blue is a classic. I totally understand why it's become a staple. That's how I roll as well. at home I keep a decanter that rarely changes and one bottle that I'm "testing" and replace every 2 or 3 months.

    Double black is a great blend in my opinion, but my issue with it is that it loses steam after you open the bottle. If you leave the bottle open and it lasts more than a week, the smoke and iodine notes (what you’re paying for) basically fade away. So I guess you should finish it in less than a week?

    Couple questions for you after this episode. First, I don't have a lot of experience with Johnny Walker but want to include it in my repertoire. What's a good label to start with and can you suggest some others to follow it with? Second, I wondering how the barrel ruined the Blendageddon? I'm guessing you thought the barrel would marry the whiskeys together better, which is what I would think too. What happened?

  • @WhiskeyVault

    @WhiskeyVault

    7 жыл бұрын

    It made it far to smooth. The flavors were originally fighting with each other and it made the whisky extremely interesting. After the barrel bonded them, it got half as interesting.

    It is creamy! I agree! And it's just friggin' great Scotch for the price. Black Bottle is actually my No. 3 after JWB & JWDB. I agree with Rex, I don't think BB is more "challenging" than DB, DB has a bit more smoke on the palate, but it's far from "challenging" unless you are comparing it to a "Sherry Bomb". BB goes down easy, there is nothing "bad" about it, it's something I get when I don't feel like spending an extra 10 or 15 to go with the JWB or 2B.

    He really has improved mightily. I find drinking with folks that are new to whisky can be very rewarding notes-wise. They have no frame of reference so they just blurt out stuff and it's almost always helpful. CREEEAAAAMMM!

    Sorry for the same question again. You said you were sipping Black but you mistakenlly placed a bottle of Double Black in front of the camera. But the title of the video is Johnnie Walker Double Black. I'm still confused haha.

    I love idiots. I also love whiskey and the idea of a beginners chart, especially where scotch is involved.

    It sounds like you are drscribing the classic black not the double. The double is non age statement. I find the classic black to be rough with a bas finish. The double black is super solid when on special and a quality blend through and through

    You keep calling it Black Label when its Double Black, and such a difference between the two! Still love the show, and Double Black, I've also noticed the Double Black from Duty Free far deeper and smokier than the normal North American retail market.

    In my personal log of the reviews you guys have done I just wrote "at the point where it begins to fade there is a mouth feel note of cream. cream. CREAM! boosh, suck it Daniel." and yes I used "mouth feel" because I know you don't like it
