The food in the stores was sparse due to shortages. This lasted for 4 long years! The longer the conflict, the worse the healing phase. Within 2 weeks of the German Chancellor announcing the end of WWI, these millions of people ALL went into the healing phase all at the same time. It is during the healing phase that you experience symptoms of illness! What is the healing phase of the bronchia widening? Severe bronchitis, pneumonia. The body attempts to refill this lost tissue and you experience inflammation, fever, coughing, body aches, fatigue, etc. What is the healing phase of the extra lung tissue that grew? Decomposing of the tissue by TB bacteria and fungi. The symptoms of this healing phase are: severe coughing up of blood and tissue, fever, inflammation, severe mucous, body aches, fatigue. During this decomposing of the extra tissue (tumor), the body expels a lot of protein, and without replenishment, severe protein loss can result in death. Antibiotics did not exist yet. 38:00 I’ve noticed going to live shows that there is a currency to laughs. There’s a fine balance when setting up the set where you still have to be mindful of “laugh exhaustion.” Especially when people are drinking. Maybe it’s just me being a little tipsy at the shows, but it makes sense to space out your best jokes with good-great jokes in between.

Yeah, pacing is as important in comedy sets as novels. Even Jeselnik isn’t all one-liners. He has jokes where the premise takes up a good 2 minutes, with minor laughs sprinkled in and it slowly builds to a bigger laugh. Ex: the murder/suicide premise on Fire in the Maternity Ward. He also ends both Netflix specials with a 20-minute premise buildup, probably because 60 straight minutes of one-liners would be like straight whiskey all night.

Man the Dave Chappelle “the 4 times I met O.J” jokes were perfectly timed.. that was masterclass..then you thought the show was over, and he came out saying “THE FOURTH TIME I MET O.J”..standing ovation! That was beautifully done

This is one of the few podcasts with Jeselnik where the host actually is on the same wavelength with him. It's kind of refreshing when he can just vibe with someone instead of having to reflectively keep them at arm's length or call bs on whatever silly bit they're working on.

This is legitimately Jeselnik’s best podcast interview. Nice job, Santino.

It's so crazy seeing both of them, each very confident, but completely different kinds of confidence. I dig it! Both of them are great 👍

And mentioning in his special that people call him the goat and getting an applause break was bad taste imo, it just didn’t have the jokes his other have, it felt like he improved most of the set like one of those rants you hear rumors about where he’s on stage just talking for 3 hours. I’d love to see that at a comedy club, but a special?

As they show up when something good happens. In-between the lines questions is , "something", "bad","good" HAPPENS. Is this a self indulgent happening or a world-wide happening? Cause Whiskey Ginger shows up once a week, pretty constant, and I would guess that things are happening no matter.

Agreed. Obsession was the word I was looking for. Three (?) fucking specials in a row about the same thing, without being really funny or even some new insights. One the one side you have the overly offended people and then on the other side you have peeps that are still not comfortable with trans or gay people and feel like they get their views legitimised by Chappelle "destroying" the other side. Chappelle does more harm than good here, while not being funny.

@@littlebighumancom Except you can only come away with that if you're comparing it to his previous specials and there's a few masterpieces in there. The guy did 6 specials in 4 fucking years. Of course not all of them are going to be complete hits. Also, Dave is occasionally more concerned with craftsmanship and storytelling instead of punch after punch, which frankly, tends to lend itself to more rewatches and is all around more compelling. Plus, The Closer is still objectively more interesting/funny than any special Jeselnik has done. I like Jeselnik but even his best jokes are "grin inducing" at most because his delivery seems incredibly contrived. People have latched onto a narrative because they want to be on the right side. You can just easily say Dave's jokes about Native Americans in "For What It's Worth" contribute just as much "harm." In fact, his story at the end of The Closer will actually push insensitive people to move forward with more compassion. The ones that feel as though their views are being validated attempt to find evidence of that in all art.

@@SallyMankus130 at least when Anthony produces a special, he doesn't have to make another one right after convincing everyone that what he was saying were jokes. The only thing people have taken from Dave's last 3 specials is "Twitter isn't real". Tom Segura is pretty concerned with story telling and craftsmanship instead of puch after punch. He still makes it funny. Like anthony or Andrew said, Dave relied on his star power to get people to watch his last specials. They weren't really standup, just Dave trying to convince you his POV. They felt like a Ted talks on how he isn't a transphobe.

Jeselnik only does select podcasts so it says a lot that he's doing Red's
