Best machine ever , please bring back these direct drive units to the market,today's units suck.

Thank you for this repair. It's interesting how whirlpool direct drive transmissions have no pulleys or belts. That gear oil smells identical to the GE filter-flo gear oil when operating.

The vent hole is there so the oil isn't full of air bubbles when it operates, it's supposed to allow air to escape.

I found a substitute oil for that transmission. The OEM Whirlpool oil is $30-$35.00 for 15 ounces. Go to walmart, Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts. Get a quart of Hyperlube Oil Supplement for around $8.00. A quart is 32 ounces. You only need 15 MEASURED ounces for that transmission. Take some Diesel and an old paint brush and clean the old oil out. Measure 15 ounces and pour in the Hyperlube. Our machine actually runs quieter now.

Hey man, two year old video I know but, you never want to try to pull by the spin clutch (what you were calling the brake), because it could damage a seal inside for it. There was a snap ring you had to remove first, then it could be taken off before the cover. I gotta say though, for the age of the machine, that oil and the spin gear (that large plastic gear) looked to be in excellent shape. Amazing what good designing does.

I will say, at least they saved the maytag name by building the direct drives for them.

USE GEAR OIL 140 .

What’s wrong if the washing machine is on the side for to long🧐?

did it not agitate enough for the neutral drain?

Neutral drain is not working.

Great washing machine!!! The new High Efficiency washers are a piece of shit.

Western Massachusetts Elevators Pretty much. I have an HE whirlpool calypso out in the garage, and this machine takes the calypso to the cleaners. Pun intended.
