I'll brew and whirlpool with my new Spike Brewing Brew Kettle. My goal is to have clear separation of hops and wort as I transfer to my conical fermenter. This video demonstrates the whirlpool and the Spike Kettle in this process.

I have a RoboBrew kettle. I have no idea why it wasn't designed like your Spike kettle. A riser would solve my two biggest problems, which are a clogged recycling pump and a clogged drain. Cheers on the great video!

Thanks for watching. Here are the steps I take in caring for the plate chiller: (1) immediately after brewing, I connect the water hose to the output hose of the chiller (the chiller is still connected to the pump and the pump to the kettle hose). I back flush the system for a few minutes. (2) immediately (or at least in the next few days depending on how lazy I am) heat a couple gallons on PBW and circulate if through the systems. Let it stand for a few hours then rinse with hot water. (3) I remove the chiller from my stand, lay it on its back, and add in fresh PBW. The chiller will NOT evenly fill, so I fill it, shake it back and forth and fill some more until I am certain that the whole thing is filled and let stand a few hours. (4) rinse and shake to totally clean it out. (5) last of all, fill with star san and let it sit. I go to the length of explaining all of the cleaning steps because you won't believe (or want to see) what all comes out - Yuck! Take the time to clean it thoroughly and then it is easier to maintain. It really is pretty simple and doesn't take much time (the PBW does the work).

Thanks for watching and your comment. Here is a link to the chiller: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nGFoz8mxdrzUm9I.html Here is the model: DudaDiesel DUDAHX-B3-23A-40ST You'll see that I added all of the plumbing to the chiller. The thermometer is a simple kitchen thermometer (likely Amazon or Bed Bath and Beyond). I insert the probe through a seal that I fabricated and it probes the wort as it goes by toward the fermenter. Let me know if you have any other questions. All the best, DT

Did you use irish moss in the boil?

My typical boil includes whirlflock. It gives pretty good results.
