He was not running flat out, it was a casual lollop. Lot more speed in him. Lovely dog. My favorite breed.

You can tell in the beginning when she had to hold the dog- the dog was like “RELEASE ME. I NEED TO RUN. WANNA GO FASTTTTTT.”

Sighthounds are such amazing dogs. And they're so sweet.

This makes my heart sing. My old whippet Luigi is 14 years old and can't walk far and wears a nappy...but he was once as this whippersnapper! Luigi is happy though as he has got a little 2 yr old jack russell, Biscotti, to pull his tail and to rest his head on her tummy. 😊

There's a video of a Greyhound on a wheel, and you can power your house for a week, as fast as it was running.

There’s also the slowing down at the end. I used to do the same with mine. He loved it.

That's about 2/3 of the speed that the dog can run. Only way to make them run flat out is to put game or a lure in front of them.

If you position the person who waits for the dog, say at 110m, the time would decrease maybe to 8 seconds at 100m. It is because, probably the dog slows down the speed when he aproachs the other person. Awesome. I love these dogs. Usain Bolt is a giant. 😊

That's still slow for a racing dog. 300m tracks are done in 17 seconds. 8 seconds x 3 and we'll even take 2 seconds of for the sake of saying speed build up, 22 seconds. I certainly would not have this dog for racing

If that's 110m, that's slow.

Yeah it was a quick run but not a full sprint. Our whippet does the same. Put a rabbit in front of it or another dog chasing them having fun and they go up a couple of gears instantly.

IIRC Italian Greyhounds can run at 27 mph (Bolts speed) over 50m, Whippets can do 44mph and Greyhounds a whopping 70mph. All are beautiful and so laid back.

This is actually pretty accurate. The fastest 100M EVER run is Usain Bolt's 9.58 sec. If this is 110M and he slowed down at the end to greet his human, and he was not going full out, 9.27 sec. seems right in the zone of accuracy.

My greyhound ran a 100m on a real track in 6.1 seconds so that’s definitely more than 100m

Greyhounds are a bit faster than whippets. Your figures work out to about 36 mph and the OP's about 27 mph...both realistic, if a bit below the speeds some specimens of their breed are supposed to be capable of.

@@nicknelson9450I always wondered about that… there was a 2 legged whippet at the park where I used to walk my dogs (many years ago) who was blindingly fast. Never tried to measure how fast exactly, though I know he was at least twice as fast as me and was no slouch for a 14 year old.

The title says 110M. It's a cricket field, so the size is probably well known by the crew. He wasn't necessarily running full out (without some kind of motivation), and he had to slow down to stop at the end. Also better traction on a real track that's been leveled versus an uneven grassy field.

My girls used to do the same thing with our whippet cross. His fastest 100yd time was 7.5sec

The track record for a whippet for 150 yards is around 8 seconds mark it was 8.45 50 years ago so it could be even lower

Whippets top speed is around 45mph. Humans is around 35mph. But the dog slowed down at the end. Whippet could probably do 7.5 seconds flat out without slowing. Human can do 9.5 seconds. So - sounds about right to me.

Nearly 30mph or to put it another way the speed at which I exit at pub when it's my round.

People who live in apartments should not have dogs that need to run every day. I feel sorry for this dog if that's all he can do and we don't know if he does that everyday maybe he's just going bonkers living in a small apartment.

My race whippet does 295 meters in 20.41 seconds, and he's not in the elite class. You can tell by this dogs stride that he's not maxing out.
