Thinking about purchasing the Zoom H4n Pro Black or the Zoom H6 All Black, but you're not sure if they're still good in 2022? Do you want to find out if either the H4n Pro, or the H6, is the recording device which suits your needs?
Here is my review of both Zoom handheld recorders, comparing the pros and cons, and figuring out if they're still relevant. In this comparison video, we'll also cover who should, and who should not buy the H6 or the H4n Pro.

    HELP: I want to import a music backing track to lay vocals along side to be mixed later IN THE H6. There is not ONE video that explains how to do this that works. I tried even converting the backing track to the specs the H6 is recording at on my laptop on the SD as I saw in a video but when I go back to the H6 and put the SD back in the H6 I can't find the backing track to play I want to use to lay vocals. I'm not talking about overdubbing I just need the track to be able to be referenced while recording. Can anyone help me or lead me to a very specific and good english video that shows how?

    Such a comprehensive comparison. Thank you. I recently bought the H4N Pro. Just days later, the H6 was available at a comparable price, just a few bucks more. I'm still within the return period for H4N pro. Should I just keep the H6 (thus far unopened); and return the H4N Pro while it's possible to do so? Do write back, if you can. Thank you.

    Hello! With the h4n pro, when using interface mode, you can only record either the stereo built in mics OR inputs 1-2, but not both simultaneously. This means it is impossible to use all 4 channels at once in interface mode. Is this also true for the H6? I'm simply looking to be able to use the stereo mic and 1 single input to record guitar and vocals, respectively, directly into my DAW. Thank you!

    I have been trying to hook my hn6 to Auria pro as an interface with no luck finally realizing that all six or even four can not be hooked up at once. So today I am going to try stereo mode. I also own the H4n and May try to use that as an interface as well. You seem to be doing the same thing that I am trying to do. With that said I am very disappointed with zoom products. I own the H4n, hn6, G1x4, and the hn2. As well as the camera I forget the model number. Not one of the units are very intuitive, and the most that I have been able to get out of them is to record my music and play back via Jack through my JBL speaker. And it is not just me I have friends that have given up and just use their iPhones. I on the other hand have to much money tied up in the products now. Im assuming that’s why you can buy them so cheap used. By the way if you see the video of the kid in the woods hooking up to Auria pro he is full of shit. Guaranteed he recorded in stereo. Bottom line I wish the zoom products were much more user friendly.

  • @christianskyes

    I think the H4n Pro still does that, but the H5, H6 and H8 do not. Also, have you tried the trick where you format the SD card inside of the H4n Pro? That supposedly speeds up the turn on time. Also, using a smaller SD card also speeds it up.

    Did you record the voiceover with the H6 and shotgun attachment fixed to a stand or are the two light enough and quiet enough to use as a hand held microphone?

  • @christianskyes

    @christianskyes

    Жыл бұрын

    They are light enough to be hand held, but I wouldn't recommend doing that, as you might add handling noise in your recording. What I did for this setup is I had them on a small Manfrotto desk stand, so I wouldn't have to hold it, and so that it was always pointing in the same direction. Given that it's a very directional setup, with the shotgun mic that is, having it on one place also helps with not going too much off axis.

  • @christianskyes

    If you’re just recording one person, you don’t need the H8. You can just get something like a Zoom H5, with an SGH-6 capsule, and have it on your desk (on a small stand), pointed at your mouth. You can even just get an H5 and point it at your mouth, with the default mics, but you’ll get more of the sound of the room that way, rather than getting your voice specifically. You can also do a zoom h4n pro with a lav mic.

    That's no longer possible unfortunately, as I no longer own most of them :) I bought a lot of Zoom recorders, filmed them, and then sold them off. I decided not to go too in-depth with the comparisons, as that would probably bee too much info for most viewers. It'd be interesting for field recordists and audio nerds in general, but from what I've seen in the comments, most viewers are interested in starting podcasts, content creation, etc. Check out Paul Virostek or George Vlad, as they do a lot more in-depth testing of recording devices :)

    It does, though the H4n Pro doesn't have to take that long. First off, the larger the SD card is, the longer it takes. Second of all, if you format the SD card inside of the device, using the format feature in the settings, it should start up quicker :)

    @@christianskyes Sure, but at this point I don't even know what your channel is even supposed to be anymore. Feels like a cross between an advert (you reading out spec sheets) and endless - Buy the Zoom H5 in 2021 ? H5 vs H6. Buy H6 in 2021 ? Buy H6 in 2022 ? Buy the H5 in 2022 ? Buy H4n in 2022 ? Buy any of the above in 2020, 2021 or 2022 and probably 2023 when we get there. Sorry dude, by no means wish to be disrespectful, but for me personally your channel is going precisely nowhere. Same stock videos, same overall theme videos with nothing interesting or useful about using this kit for anything. The videos feel like nothing more than an advertisement for your affiliate links. Anyway, as I said, don't mean to sound disrespectful although I probably managed that very well. It's your channel so your choice. I guess it's time for me to unsub. Too many other genuinely good channels out there showing real life use cases and proper useful demos and good "in the field" reviews. Strange that people watching a review of field recorders would like to hear how they sound ! Funny that. Bizarre concept I know.

  • @christianskyes

    @christianskyes

    2 жыл бұрын

    It's not disrespectful at all, and I understand why you wouldn't want to watch further. The reality is that running a channel like this, with fresh products every week, would be incredibly expensive :) Consider how much it would cost to drop hundreds or thousands of $ every week, just so I can film the B-roll, and review the product. I have to make comparison videos for a while, whilst peppering original videos throughout, in order to grow the channel, and make more money from it, so that I can re-invest it into new gear to review :) I understand that some people won't want to stick around for that, and that's perfectly understandable, but the alternative would be me not posting at all. In terms of including audio samples, the reasons why I don't is because there would far too many things I'd need to record. I'd have to record different kinds of ambiences for the field recordists, different musical instruments for the musicians, different types of VO, with different external mics for people who want to do podcasts or content creation, different sound effects for sound designers, etc. It's easier if they look that up somewhere else. These videos are aimed more at people who are not sure which one to buy, and they need to go over what they can do, in order to decide. Anyway, I wish you all the best if you choose to unsub :)

  • @cryptotrader2779

    @@christianskyes Nobody is expecting new products every week or month, but they're also not expecting the same reviews of the same products over and over. From my side, some real word educational videos of in-the-field work would have benefitted your channel immensely. Anyway, I did unsub but also wish you the best going forward. By the way, you are overthinking what you needed to do quite massively. There was no need to ever record sound samples for podcasts and music and field and speech, etc ... All you needed to do was include video and sound snippets of what you do. Don't try to be all things to all people. That ends up pleasing nobody. Make your channel about what YOU do and how you do it. Right now there is no theme or method to it all, just same-y "review" type videos of stuff you don't even own anymore according to you. It genuinely comes across like your content is 95% focused on making money and not to educate or inform. I know that probably sounds brutal, but it's what I feel as a viewer. Make content for the people watching and the money will follow. Don't make videos for what you want out of it. That never works and is why I unsubbed. Sure my unsub won't ever harm you, but after all this time being a sub to your channnel it became way too samey and boring. There is nothing new or even remotely interesting.
