As part of The National Gallery Masterpiece Tour, 'Tobias and the Angel' by the workshop of Andrea del Verrocchio, is visiting three museums across the country: Oriel Davies, The Beacon Museum and Carmarthenshire Museum.

    Renaissance artists often employed echoes in compositions, it's part of the poetry. Hence the two arms matching is very deliberate and a strong compositional device. Lovely work, great to see Leonardo's hand in this, Verrocchio is underrated his pupils learned a lot from him.

    Really informative and interesting discussion. Much enjoyed it. I must have seen the painting 5+ times and I never noticed the similar positions of the left airms and hands!

    That angels head has a kind of crystalline quality to it that makes me think Da Vinci.
