Strickland will be the closest but nobody will ever have even half the starpower conor had. But i believe strickland just needs to keep defending and people will be much more hyped for his fights than conor. Im probably biased because ill always tune in to a conor fight but im already more invested in strickland at this point. Im a pretty casual fan and i love to watch his style more than his antics

It’s hard to say, if we’re speaking about any of the current stars then absolutely not. Conor came in at the perfect time, and achieved what many thought to be impossible. Everything was maxed out for Conor, entertaining as hell fight style, funny Irish accent that made any trash talk hilarious, and legitimately solid achievements. When you are the first to do something, you get the most shine for it. When Conor became champ champ, he knocked out both champions Alvarez and Aldo early into the fight. Literally got the record for quickest knockout. And alvarez was in the second round, that’s why he was such a huge star. Imagine a guy saying “You’re a bum ill starch you in the first, with a right hook” and actually doing that. He would set impossibly high expectations and meet them fully. Double concurrent, and double champ too, never done before. Then went on to fight Floyd, the first UFC x Boxing collaboration. If a UFC fighter wants to be the next Conor, they need much more than just a funny personality, good fight style, and Dana Priviledge. If someone today wants to be the next Conor, they would have to be a triple champ, knock out a boxer, and be legitimate boogieman in their weight class, constantly knocking people out in seconds left and right. Double Champ is a dime a dozen in the UFC it doesn’t carry the weight it did in 2015c the game has changed.

Conors rise was perfect, nothing short of a storybook plot line and in my opinion cannot be replicated, matched, and definitely not exceeded in the modern era. The matchups he got, combined with his advanced striking style that was ahead of his time and the way he finished fights was entertaining in and of itself, but then you add in the near flawless charisma and trash talk he displayed every time he had a mic or camera in front of him , and it's no wonder he got so big. Seriously, the guy was so smooth in the moment that you almost had to question if he was reading off a script because of how perfect his comedic timing and responses were, and he backed up his seemingly outlandish claims time and time again with relative ease when it came time to fight. He took control of every situation or interaction he was in, both inside and outside the octagon, and he did so with seamless confidence as if he knew something the rest of us didn't. The guy isn't just the best showman of our time or in MMA, but arguably the best in all of combat sports history if not sports history entirely. Because of all those reasons and more there simply won't be another Conor from a promotional or entertainment standpoint for atleast a couple of decades, if ever. Those kinds of talent only ever come around once in a generation, the kind that don't just have the physical but also the mental, not just the mental but also the physical. You had Muhammad Ali and then a couple decades later got Mike, and since then boxing hasn't really had a true showman. Sure, a couple decades after Mike you got Floyd but Floyd's popularity wasn't because of his showmanship skills so much as it was his ability to win and the business acumen he applied behind the scenes. In basketball you got one MJ, Kobe came close but not really, and was overall just a great imitator of MJs success. Lebron is great but doesn't and never will have the charisma or mental game Jordan had. Conor had all those things alongside the best showman skills most of us have ever seen and will ever see in our lifetime. Because of that I don't think anyone in the UFC will ever match Conor's popularity. The tangible talent he had is generational alone, but the showmanship abilities he possessed are even more rare. He was exactly what the UFC and the sport of MMA needed at the time but they'll never need someone like him again, and the truth is I'm not sure if any sport, much less MMA, will get that again.

Also you're forgetting Chandler who will be 38 years old by the time they fight has taken a ton of damage in his recent fights. He's not really a submission guy and will look to stand with someone who is a way better boxer than he is. People will say Conor is washed but his issue is hes just too one dimensional for the division. If Chandler doesn't wrestle he gets Ko'd. You saw how much he struggled on the feet against a washed Tony. Like I said hes got power but his boxing leaves him open to get countered and dropped. If we were talking about Dustin or Gaethje then yeah Conor loses because they have better IQ and tools to win. Conor cant go in there looking to only box those guys.

Strickland is the best positioned without a doubt. Election year in the USA after a Democratic Party government. Sean has already crossed many red lines like the time he said that women belonged in the kitchen, people have already assumed that he is a person with problems who talks trash. He is not the typical guy who sucks the dick companies, in fact he says that companies are the problem. He has a very captivating speech for the UFC audience, who are mostly men. If he beats du plessis, at the end of the year he has a very good chance of having the biggest ppv in recent years in a rematch against Izzy or defending the title.
