Great video! I just bought the R7 and really like it! I also have the 5D mkiv and actually thinking about getting R, as they have same sensor and that would work well I think. I have not tried the R yet, would that be workable to use these two together on a photoshoot, R7 and R, or are they to differrent?

Great video!! Thank you so much. I have a question though; I have a 5D mkii and was thinking of upgrading to the R7 but have been told that for events photography (the primary photography I do) the crop sensor is a terrible idea. I love everything I read about the R7 so was wondering what your opinion was of my proposed upgrade? Surely modern mirrorless out preform dslr full frame? All the experts near me seem to be in love with the mkii and won’t suggest anything apart from the R5 (out of my price range)

I think between a 2023 APS-C camera and a 2008 full frame camera, the performance will be pretty close, if not better than older camera. That said the Canon R8 just came out and is full frame. I haven't gotten to play with it yet, but it might be what you're looking for. BUT if your 5DmkII is doing the job you need it to do, keep it going. Only buy things when you have to!

@5:25 how are you going to freeze motion with electronic shutter? The only thing you can freeze with it is your exposure. The slow sensor reading in electronic shutter mode wont freeze much and give you rolling shutter instead

Same crop! Only more crop when using the 4K60p cropped mode! It's a great lens for the R7!

Kyle, Just starting to do interview content. Could I ask what your ideal package for a two-camera package would be? Boom over lava mic's? Monitor or not? I'm overwhelmed a bit with all the info. Have been using my iPhone 14ProMax - good in a pinch with wireless lava's. I'm ready to make the investment but, need your help in putting it all together. Would you consider a Zoom with reimbursement for your time? Thanks

I don't get this whole crop thing. A lot of videographers use m4/3 system, which has even more crop, and compared to aps-c, the crop is not that big. I asked my clients when I showed them 1080p vs 4k footage, and 6 out of the 7 I asked couldn't tell the difference between the upscaled 1080p compared to the 4K, showed on a 55" 4k TV. Also, the R have 120fps in HD, which is usable after upscaling.

Great content Kile!!,..Question: do you recommend that kit lense 18-150 that's coming with the R7 or do you think is better get the body only and buy a better prime or a Sigma lense like the Sigma 18-35mm that is very popular, I know the distance with the 18-150 will be great, but do you think is a price worthy. Thanks! The 18-150mm lens is great outside or a studio setting with a lot of light. The Sigma 18-35 is awesome for it's f/1.8 aperture, but I think the longer range of the kit lens is excellent for just being a little more than the cost of the body only.

I have both. the sigma 18-35 looks light years better than the 18-150. But since it’s my only lens with that range it’s nice to have the 18-150

Im in between the R and the Sony A7 III. I'm more into photography than video as I am a casual shooter on public events... Which one should I choose in 2024?

Oh man, for primarily photos, they're both great cameras! At that point, it's just which one feels better in your hands and which one has lenses you like better!

Did you say you can shoot HLG profile with R7?

Ah, I may have misspoke. The R7 does HDR PQ in 10bit 4:2:2 color.

I'm thinking about getting either Canon R7 or R6. So just want to ask in your opinion, which one will be worth the money for video recording and photo for wedding/ portrait photography? I heard R6 tend to overheat on 4k60p and only have a 30 mins recording limit, but in term of that, at least R6 is a full frame and better low light performance than R7.

Yeah, that's a trickier comparison. If you're leaning towards more video, I'd probably go with the R7, but if you're primarily doing photos and only occasionally filming the R6 would probably be a-okay.

Overheating is less of an issue if you record externally. Not sure if that is an option for you, but if it is then you have that workaround when using 4k60 on the R6

Today, I'd do the R7. Faster burst for photos and 10bit 4:2:2 color for video. Every second counts on a wedding!

I was thinking to buy a camera that is good for taking videos and pictures - like portraits, low light (night) that is good to use for a beginner like me. I was actually had this 3 options which one should i buy? Canon 90d/Eos R7/ Eos R. Or maybe you could suggest another camera that is way better than this? Thankyou!

If you want good low light/high iso performance go for either the R or the RP. I use an R for 2 years now, took hours of videos and over 80k pics, and I love it. You can get pretty good pictures up to 3200 iso, and usable images even on 12800 iso. Cameras with aps-c sensors don't have good high iso capabilities. If you want to save some bucks, go for the RP, if you want a better camera (especially for photos) go for the R

Hmm, I think the R7 is great for wildlife, but you might prefer a full frame camera for portrait and landscape photos. Might be time to go to a local camera store and get each of them in your hands and see what you like best!

Go for sony man, i’m a 5dmkIII and eos R + panasonic gh5 shoter. Unless u buy a R5, go for the A7III or highter cam. U will find excellent autofocus in video ( for photo its the same), king low light & iso. The most important, full set of lens -> top premium, good and cheap in sony and they are lot of excelent glass with sigma, tamron…. For canon RF GLASS, this mount is not open and canon forbid company to built lens. So… Canon aren’t bad, but if u start for good - go for sony

The original R still has issues with adapted third party EF mount lenses still, with many being listed as straight up not compatible.

@@nitablackwood6301 Any sigma non art/contemporary/sports lens, but some of them works with the R. I tried 2 85 1.4 (non art) one worked, one not Any Tamron non G2 lens, the Sp-s will work after firmware update I tried 1 yongnuo and 2 samyang EF lenses on the R, none of them worked But they won't work with any R system (R/Rp/R3/5/6/7) cameras too But not compatible means no correction in camera, a lot of lenses which is listed non compatible will work, but no in camera corrections for them
