Which PARAGLIDING HARNESS is BEST? Effects of different harnesses on the same paraglider.

Does a paragliding harness make any difference to the feeling of a wing? Join Flybubble Paragliding as we investigate the effect of three different harnesses on the Advance EPSILON 9, an agile EN B paraglider.
The Advance SUCCESS 4 is a traditional upright harness with great protection; the Advance LIGHTNESS 3 offers reclined aerodynamic efficiency; and the Advance EASINESS 2 is a reversible split-leg harness for those who want compact lightweight kit.

I think you might be missing something. When they test these gliders they test it $0.38 CM between the risers and then at 42 and then at 46. The narrower the risers were to each other the more quickly the glider recovered from collapse and stall. The wider risers gave more feel to the pilot and more of that shock absorber sensation. If all three riser widths were the same I think you would have a different result.

Love your vids Greg. Sensible advice as well as recommendations. If only more beginner/intermediate pilots would follow your advice there'd be a lot fewer accidents. Keep them going!

Awesome videos man! Keep it up! This is exactly the information I was wondering about! You nailed it. Great job. I've been flying the little cloud turtle, (reversible, split leg harnesses) and wondering about a more cross country, vs acro set ups. And how these harnesses effect the wing and/or different wings! I fly the turtle with my fire fly 2, 20m little cloud and my buzz 4 perfect! So this info was perfect! thank you! this was awesome. saved me from having to buy all these harnesses! love your vids.

I really love the split leg feeling you described. Where each leg has a direct connection to that side of the wing / riser. I feel connected and it’s stable and dampened. But if I wanted to do more siv work or even learn acro, would that harness work? Why are all acro harnesses seat boards? That tippy feeling of looseness is so strange and uncomfortable to me.

I find that my current wing (Iota-1 27) is much calmer with a seat plate (Gin Genie Lite 2) than without (Sup-air escape 2). It feels very jittery and noisy, on the reversible, with the pod its a lot quieter. I suspect that its similar wing movements (I've not flown them both in the same conditions+site+day), but the pod just damps out more of the chatter. I fly at a similar AUW in both cases. Although this may be more to do with the two specific harnesses than anything to do with seatplate v's hammock. Another prominent reviewer often comments on the differences 2 kg make, does that apply here? Do you think the conclusions about harness feel would be consistent if flown at the same AUW with each?

Greg, I just started paragliding, and have a Kortel Karver II, under an Epic wing. As split legs go, what are your feelings about the Karver? Ah, just found your video on the Korvel ... I bet you'll answer my question right there. ;) Thx

hey! it seems like you flew the 24 in all 3 cases at above the certified weight range... would you recommend this for someone on the line between the 24/26? if an all in weight is 90kg, should you not have been on the 26?

Good evaluation. I can't stand the type of harness geometry that take the leg straps straight up to the base strap. For most pilot make and female it is very uncomfortable to kite in and can be hard to get into the harness.

Great review Greg! At 13:47 I can see you didn't buckle the top strap of the harness (I know it is not mandatory). I find that when i get into a committed torpedo position, not having that strap buckled the shoulder straps get too wide apart and it feels scary/dangerous. Do you have any thoughts on that? Cheers.

depends on the harness, some need the strap, most don't. In zero wind forward run, my weight is on the chest strap - I'm never pushing so far forward that my weight is on the shoulder straps / able to slip out.

Greg, thanks for all your informative videos, much appreciated! Can you tell me/us how does the Kolibri compare to the split leg harness (reviewed here) and the Lightness 3, in comfort, sensitivity etc? Any comments on hang point height for the Lightness 3 (which I believe is higher, than the Lightness 2) vs Kolibri. Can you do a video review of the Kolibri please? (I have read your write up vs Skywalk Range)....Cheers!

Great video! Great Topic! Well done Greg! I've found split legs to be less responsive to harness input...your review seems to contradict that evaluation. I can def see the feeling being more sensitive. But do you find that you have to put more effort in for harness inputs with the split leg than the other two?

  • @fransknops5686

Scott Jenkins I fly the Progress 2, which has split legs as well. I find it very easy to adjust the sensitivity by using the small strap that holds the split legs together. If you close it completely it almost feels like flying a seat board. If you open it completely you get the feeling of two wings connected to each other. The nice thing it you can adjust during the flight. I’ve flown it with quite some wings, from low end B up to the BGD Cure, which is a high end C and you can very easily tune the amount of feedback you get from the wing. Even during flight, e.g. when I want to eat my snack I don’t want to be tossed around, so I close it. Once finished when I want to find the thermal (that I lost while eating :-) I open it up again.

I think Advance do a very good job of giving you weight-shift sensitivity in a split leg. Not all split leg harnesses have the same geometry. I found the Easiness nicely responsive, more than the Lightness 3, softer than the Success 4 so nicer to fly in choppy conditions. Definitely not more effort required, I just leant a little.

can you give a comment on this wing with a Progress 3?

  • @fransknops5686

Craig Le Privit just my two cents: a combination of Success and Easiness. Split legs, like the Easiness, but less of a ‘monkey seat’ , more the sturdy, relaxed position of the Success. I fly the Progress 2 (not with the Epsilon) and have had flights of over 3 hours. I don’t like to stretch my legs, so find this harness very comfortable for my needs.

Had no idea a harness could make such a noticeable difference in how a wing responds. Guess I'm a bit of a caveman, as I've only flown w/ the harness that came w/ my wing. Maybe its just the paraplegia that makes my ass so insensitive!? LOL
