Where I'm from the second is called sundress but I always consider the first a sundress.

sundress for me is either what you are thinking or a shorter and more casual version of the long ones. it has to be FLOWY tho

​@@urabetamale Bodycon dresses work like skims, they're targeted towards figure hugging and flattery but sundresses are always flowy because their design is supposed to give a cooling effect. You can definitely feel the difference in temperature when wearing those two dresses on a hot summer day.

My understanding of a sundress is like a babydoll dress. Flowy, with little flower prints, puff sleeves, above the knee dress. Or could also be spaghetti straps, long skirt, still flowy dress.

I always thought it was just a category that maxi dresses fell into, along with the flowy cute flower print dresses you are referring to.

I always think of the 1st one
