I hate to be a nitpicker, but there is a typo in "Vanderbilt" in your pinned summary. The "i" and "b" got flipped. Not a big deal at all, but just thought I'd point it out so you can edit the comment. If this has been fixed, then you read my comment and edited the typo. Thanks again for the excellent and informative video!

One Vanderbilt Summit is THE BEST. Here are some tips: Reserve for the very first time slot in the day, line up about 15 minutes ahead of time, skip the picture-taking (They want you to do it, but you don't have to), and go directly to the elevators. They have good crowd control, but you will have the most elbow room and almost no waiting if you go early. Also, there is a snack bar on the highest level. If you can, nab a table right next to the windows and have a cup of coffee or a soda. You can't get that experience anywhere else. Skip the extra charge for the elevator to the higher level-- not worth it. Top of the Rock is my second favorite. Such a great art deco building and you're right in the middle of everything. Empire State is iconic, but the price and crowds are ridiculous. Back in the day, you didn't have to pay extra to go to the 102nd floor. Sorry they're doing that now.

@@user-pf2xc9xc4u what observation deck have staff that takes pictures? im solo travelling and would like this
The South Tower Observation Deck will always be remembered
World Trade Center was the BEST open air observation deck in Manhattan up until 9/11..........I went up there in 1993 & was blown away on a clear sunny day........RESPECT !
The best one is the top of the rock. The view you get of the south of the island with the Empire State Building framed just in the middle of all is just beyond words I suggest going there near sunset
I have done all 5 decks (not in one day!!) and appreciate you pointing out that they all have pros and cons. I’ll add these details: 1)One World’s entire southern view is essentially just water, which to me is less interesting than land & buildings 2) The Edge offers the least “hassle” to visit- efficient security, minimal forced sales pitches for add ons 3) Obviously people love One Vanderbilt, but I find it’s almost more of an immersive fun park than it is an observatory. The mandatory booties are a nuisance, and stepping around people lying down on the floor is hazardous. You also hint at the temperature- with all the mirrors reflecting it gets very hot on a sunny day 4) TOR is relatively spacious for the size crowds it attracts and is more about the views than the amusements. My favorite 5)ESB is the most centrally located for the most balanced views in all 4 directions.

Let me just say, Jon, you would make a great salesman. I booked a ticket to the Edge, booked a ticket NYC, got on the train to NYC, got off the train, had breakfast, walked to the edge, got inside the building, and got to the top before I remembered... I was TERRIFIED of heights. Your videos were so amazing they made me forget my fear of heights. Good Job 😂!
The ESB may not have the best view but it is the greatest skyscraper ever built. My great grandfather was an iron worker on this building and I could never thank him enough.
You & Ben, taking one for the team in this. Seriously must have been brutal standing in all those lines. Great video!

I, absolutely, love ToTR! Have been there several times, at different times of day and night and nothing beats the views of Central Park in the day, the horizon beyond the Hudson River and New Jersey at sunset and the lights of the city with the ESB shining bright at night.
The edge was the one for me, just got back from new york and the edge at night blew me away 👌
This is my first trip to NYC. I started watching your videos about 2 months before my wife and I visited. So far using them as somewhat of a guide throughout the city this has probably been my best vacation ever. Thank you for what you do.
TOP of the Rock is my favorite ! I've spent hours there. You can get a clear view of the whole city ! Idea for upcoming videos: 80's items - toys clothes etc... locations where you can find these stuff Maybe you've already done one 😉 Thank you!!!
Since I am a history freak and my grandparents immigrated there, ESB has my heart because of the history and how fast it was built. They used to have glass inserts a few years during the renovation that you could see the original builders on the etched glass. I have pictures of them. Plus knowing how hard these men worked and the nerves needed to have to be at such crazy heights.
Wife and I went to One World Observatory, and it was absolutely wild. The gravity FEELS different when you're at the top, the elevator ride is so smooth, and the fact it's entirely indoors is super nice. I thought it was super cool, little sad we didn't do it at night though, feel like it would have really made it

Was in NY at the end of October and went to Summit One on your recommendation. We went at night and got some incredible pictures of the city and in the room with the mirrored balloons. Can’t wait to go back to NY!
WOW!! That’s really amazing!!🔥🔥
This channel has been so helpful! I’m visiting for the first time come first week of April. Looking forward to it!
What a great view from the one world observatory! The Edge sky deck looks amazing! It reminds me of the observation deck at the CN tower that I went to with my aunt in 2003. I was lying on the floor and jumping up and down on it as were other people and my aunt is afraid of heights and was saying, This doesn't feel natural. Those elevators at the one summit Vanderbilt look so cool! Almost looks like something out of a science fiction movie with all the lights and mirrors. That's amazing that there are 6514 windows at the Empire State Building! That view from that top floor is incredible!
I once did the classic three on one day a couple of years ago. One WTC during mid day, Rockefeller during sunset (large picture is above my couch) and after a musical visit in the evening I went onto the Empire State. I really loved my triathlon. 😅
One world observatory is the best, less wait time.. less crowd, you can enjoy the beauty of the building and the stunning views of New York ❤
This held my attention through the entire video so nice job and interesting concept
Thank you for all of these awesome videos! My mom, sister, and I are celebrating my 36th birthday to a trip to NYC I think first weekend in May. I’m definitely looking forward to it. It’s always been a dream of mine to go. My family used to live an hour away from the city, but I was too young to remember any of it.
One Summit Vanderbilt is the best. The Edge doesn't control people to leave the building, so even If you pay a ticket before the sunset, you pay less, and you can stay there from 5pm to 8pm that nobody will notice.
We did ESB, TOR and OWO when we visited in Feb 2018 with my (then) 9 year old son, who was obsessed with skyscrapers. The other two decks didn't exist at the time, of course. We deliberately timed our visit to OWO to experience daylight, dusk, sunset (we got lucky with the weather) and night, and that would be my top tip for anyone planning going there.
Done all of them except the Top of the Rock! And im so excited to head back there next month and finalize all the observation decks in NYC. Thanks for the video!! (I'm also so stoked to try the The Beam there now!) 😁
You’re the reason I’m able to get around nyc so easily I’ll be moving there officially next year and you really helped me fall in love with New York I thank you so much please don’t ever stop making content #dayonefan
This is great timing. We did ESB a couple years ago, Summit and Edge last month, and planning to hit One World and Rock in two weeks.
Looks like you had fun thumbs up always! My observation deck is looking out the window from my 2nd floor apt!

I like this video. Thank you for the tips! I really like One Vanderbilt!!
I'm glad I didn't see the video before going to One World, we went tonight in the attempt to make the most out of the Sightseeing pass, and luckily we got there and the lines were endurable. I say I'm happy I didn't see the video before, 'cause I didn't know about the big reveal, and having that experience at night, I think it's waaay better that during light time. As it's all dark at night the reveal for me was a complete surprise, my jaw fell to the first floor hahaha. But planning for the next days, I do appreciate the video!! Will totally consider the recommendations and pros and cons. Thanks a lot for all the content you share, I've been tagging you on Instagram and our trip has been great thanks to you!!
The Edge Observation Deck may be the highest outdoor one in the Western Hempishere now, but not the highest ever. The Top of the World outdoor observation deck was on the very roof of the South Tower of the original World Trade Center. I was lucky enough to go up to that deck back in 1998.

I will keep this short for a change. What a great video that was. Great achievement doing all those in one day and queuing to. A perfect guide for visitors particularly first timers. All five are different and are must do’s at some stage in my opinion. I have never done the Edge or One Vanderbilt but will be doing them in April when we visit. Need to tick these off. Great video... must watch for visitors who are confused by so many observation decks in NYC, and which ones to go for if you only visit 1 or 2...
I have been to all of the observatories featured in this video numerous times and my recommendations aren't based on the lines, views or whatever immersive experiences they offer, but more on the time of year. If visiting in summer, definitely go to Top of the Rock or The Edge. One World Observatory or The Summit @ One Vanderbilt are my recommendations for the winter. Jon noted that the newer observatories seem to have a dark tunnel thing going on prior to entering the elevator and this is where I make my other recommendations. If time is of the essence and you want to get to the top ASAP, OWO would be the best option. While the views from the Empire State Building and Top of the Rock are certainly enthralling, in order to reach them visitors must first go through long exhibits that are walk-through mini museums dedicated to the histories of their respective buildings. They might be interesting to a first time visitor or someone like me with a keen interest in these buildings, but the exhibits can feel rather protracted and consume a fair chunk of your visiting time as you wander through en route to the elevator. It is extended further at the ESB where two elevators must be taken to reach the 86th floor observatory, and there are lengthy exhibits in the building's podium and on the 80th floor. At OWO, by contrast, there is only a relatively short immersive video experience immediately after security (that doesn't encourage people to linger), followed by a walk-through mock up of the bedrock upon which the tower sits before you arrive at the express elevator. Less than a minute later- after watching time lapse video of NYC's development from the days of the Lenape to the completion of One WTC whilst ascending in the elevator itself- there is a three minute welcome video before you are free to enjoy the view you paid 58 USD to enjoy. Plan your entry time carefully, and you can be bottom to top at OWO in less than ten minutes. Therefore, if time is tight, go for OWO. If you have a whole morning, afternoon or evening at your disposal, my recommendations are as above.

Top of the Rock has great Central Park views. I suggest going right before dusk so you actually see the park and then appreciate the sun setting. I loved Summit, but it was extremely hot because it was sunny and it’s all glass (we went in November). I’ve been up the Empire State 3x and every time I went, I felt something new. I just love it. The Empire State museum is very interesting, indeed!

I haven't been to them all but Top of the Rock is a favorite. Whenever I had visitors in NYC, their first night, after dinner, I would always take them to Rockefeller Center to walk about then take them to Top of the Rock. The view of the city from there at night is quite special.
The one World Observation deck is incredible at night, I had no idea that the video screen disappeared and opened up to that view it took my breath away, we then had a meal in the amazing restaurant eating while looking at that view at night is absolutely incredible
I visited NYC in 2021 & took myself to 2 observation decks! I think my very favorite was the One World Observatory, it has special meaning to me. I happened to be working in a 9-1-1 Communication Center in California on 9/11 & took a lot of calls from panic stricken people. To stand where it all happened while I was on the 9-1-1 Lines 20 years earlier was surreal. On a positive note, the views were incredible! And the burger I had was pretty good, too. A close 2nd was the Empire State Building. It's just so iconic. I paid the extra money to go to the very top where the views are even better & a tour guide took my picture standing over the night cityscape! Top of the Rock? I don't know, but I'll let you know after my return trip this year (2023)!
top of the rock is best view

Wow amazing new York
Cool video! We did Top of the Rock a few times and the first few times it was really worth it, mainly because there's a large outside area (good for pictures) and the view on the Empire State Building/Central Park. Then they started to built more and the view of Central Park was kind of the victim. Glad we made the pictures before those extra buildings were built. We also did Empire State building once and it was ok, but way too busy & the biggest problem is: you're standing on the Empire State Building which means you won't have it in the picture. It looks better from the outside imo. Will have to try Summit next time we're in NYC, it looks cool!
ESB is just so gorgeous. I love that building.
i've been to 3 of those observation decks,The Empire state, One world trade Center and the Edge . my favorite so far is the Edge i went there at night and the view was mazing, plus the feeling of being outdoors and the really cool glass floor to walk on, followed by ONE WORL and Empire State, i wanna check out next the Summit 1 looks really cool with all the mirrors and floating balls .
I really enjoyed the edge, but I think I will try summit or Top of the rock in June,Thanks for sharing
Wow, Jon, did all these hassles for the love of your viewers, that's nice.I need to see the Summit, when we visit again. Thanks, I enjoyed this video with popcorn.
Top of the Rock first opened in 1933 when the RCA Building was constructed. However, the deck was closed in 1986 and then reopened in 2005 as Top of the Rock.
What a brutal day of waiting in lines. Thats a major test of patience. This is a great guide for those visiting NYC for the first time and trying to decide which obs deck to choose.
Great video, thanks for the advice.. Yeh i last went NYC in May 2017 & did 3 of these: Top of The Rock, One WTC & the Empire State. All fabulous. So since then, the One Vanderbilt Summit & Edge Hudson Yards have been built & opened, so next time i visit NYC i will hopefully get to visit these 2 for a different Manhattan island perspective & experience.. TIP If uve the money, like i did, its defo worth visiting Top of the Rock & ESB twice, once for day views (early as possible in morning!) & back later for night views. Totally worth it for 2 contrasting views!
The Summit is hands the Best ! I was in such Awe and peace there.. I went after dark Truly Amazing !
Awesomeness!! :)
I fully agree with the Top Of The Rock love, it's my favorite.
