I’m an amateur writer and I haven’t been able to get enough of your videos. It’s quite nice to have such a detailed and honest look into another person’s process and preferences. I often find you answering questions or solving problems I didn’t yet know were a concern, and that’s done wonders for helping me examine my own process. Thank you for your work, hope to read one of your books here soon. Also, you’ve got fantastic dogs and taste in pens.

I'm loving your channel Michael! Fantastic! I love the pups too. I'm sorry to hear of the passing of your girl Spotty. I had to have my 16 and a half year boy dachshund laid to rest about three months ago. I surely do miss my precious little one! Lisa

I think your Dalmatian is trying to wil or tell the ball to move. Very excited and happy.

She used to adore that ball, and she'd stand barking at it until I kicked it for her. She was a sweet-natured pooch, very affectionate and friendly, and the only dog I've owned who would bare her teeth in a smile every morning when she saw us coming down the stairs!

Thanks, Peter, and yes. I keep forgetting to amend the recordings so that both channels are used! My own damn silly fault. I'll try to remember in future. Thanks for reminding me!

Thank you for persevering with the recording. I’ve generally stuck with medium nibs, as not always had the opportunity to test the sizes before buying. Didn’t have the benefit of KZread then. Thank you as always!

I have found I use EF and F nibs, mostly, almost exclusively. My handwriting tends to be smallish, depending on the space between the lines. I think I have one Medium nib from Parker. I will have to say the Pineider Quill is extraordinary! I did attach it to the Avatar Traveller. It is an Extra Fine but with little pressure, it provided a nice line variation. I also have a Pilot with a Soft Fine nib that provides a lot of character to my handwriting. Chinese nibs have changed over the past year. They are smoother and are closing in on European line widths.

Thanks for that, Paul. Yes, the quill is a lovely design, isn't it? I have to admit, I have several fine nibs (especially Kaweco) which I tend to go to when I'm out walking with a small notebook, but generally my writing is too large for normal use. It makes my writing look scratchy and horrible. I'd always go for medium at the very least when working at the desk, or broad for letters and signatures. Strange how the mood will change depending on the nib size, I find!

@@writerlywitterings I agree. I also find that using unruled paper and paper with wide space between the lines will change how I wrote and, yes my mood!

When using SD cards don't delete the footage from the camera through the camera just reformat the memory card. This will reduce wear and tear on the memory card. But you will lose footage if you haven't downloaded it to your computer before reformatting

Thanks for that, Dennis. I've been doing that, but only because deleting seemed such a slow process - it's good to learn I'm doing the right thing for once!

I have small handwriting, but I can use a medium nib, but I prefer a Japanese medium or a wet western fine. I can use an extra fine but have trouble finding one that lays down enough ink. An extra fine just doesn't show off an ink's properties at all. That matters to me. Anyway, given my druthers, a Japanese medium, or a wet western fine, gives me the best of writing experience, and ink properties.

I'm just like you, and the appearance of the ink is very important. For example, I love Delft's Blauw generally from Akkermann, but I cannot use it in a fine, because you miss all the shading. However, stick it into my Visconti with a medium nib and it just sings. It's glorious. And that effect on paper is what appeals to me most with fountain pens. Cheers!

Spotty dog was just as crazy as Rhody pup 😂. I’m not sure which nib I prefer, I go with whichever suits the mood (or which pen has ink in)

  • @writerlywitterings

Yes, I'm like you on the nib front. I find the pen that's full before anything else. When out walking, I'll tend to use a fine nib, usually a Kaweco, because they're so easy to shove in a pocket, but for general use, a good medium appeals, while for signatures on contracts only a broad will do! Basically, I'm schizophrenic!
