Got my KJ Classic I, New in box, today. Let me tell you why I got the I series. First, I am on Maui, there is only one dealer and that is Lowe’s. No one else will ship the KJs here. Lowe’s only has 1 series of the Joe. I decided this was fine, due to price and my intended use. We don’t need the rain cap, because it will be under a roof. We don’t need the air hinge because lifting the lid is good exercise and the hinge requires more difficult adjustments. We don’t need the latch because we don’t have the air hinge, so one less thing to fiddle with. We don’t need the better gasket because the difference is arguably negligible and the replacement cost is less. We don’t need the beefier stand because the wires one is cute and it works. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

After I got the Big Joe 3, I got the Classic 1. I purchased the newer control kontrol top and the ash basket. Although the big boy has all the features, I’ve been using the smaller one because it takes so much less to grill. However, I love both, having been a Weber man for 3 decades. Watching your videos on temp control has really helped me tame these efficient Kamados!

Here in Australia, I had my eyes set on the Joe Jr, but when I added the control tower and cart.. it was a matter of adding $200 and getting classic 2. In terms of the actual needs, Jr was going to be enough. But just went to classic to future proofing a little bit. Your videos have been extremely helpful in making a decision. Thanks matey!

I bought the classic 1 a year ago from lowes for around $700. It comes with the air hinge, the ceramic fire box and the shelves on the side. It lacks that new vent on the top though. I love this grill because during the winter and it's 20 degrees outside I'm still grilling with ease. Now that I know big joe has those accessories like the rotisserie and dojoe I'll pick on of those next. I want a bigger cooking area

I debated this. the food is much better on the kettle and would be my choice but the quality of the kettle is not the same as the pellet or any other Kamado. the pellet feels well made and the kettle does not share the same sturdy cart, shelves or pull out ash drawer (mine is bending in the kettle vs indestructible on the classic and big Joe)

I am loving my Big Joe 3, but one slight con for me is "wheelability" due to the weight. Not an issue if you park it in a corner of the deck or patio, but I keep mine in the garage and wheel it out when I want to cook. Fairly smooth surface but there are a couple of bumps along the way and one of the caster kingpins has already bent. Great warranty behind the products, and Kamado Joe are sending out a replacement.

I have been debating the Weber Master Touch Premium with the swanky hinge and smoke ring/diffuser plate but the Kettle Joe really intrigues me. As a single fella who fell into grilling 7-8 months ago with a Weber Compact Kettle and wanting an upgrade, I get the feeling that a Kettle Joe would probably last me longer than a Weber Master Touch Premium. Such indecision! The prices in the UK are crazy too, you say $499, I say £549 or $770 USD at time of my writing. (The aforementioned Weber is £400'ish)

I got the II because I wanted a stand alone. Big Joe seemed too big for just my wife and I. I ordered because they are somewhat hard to get and the place we bought from really did not have any available to see and compare. It is not unboxed yet as outdoor kitchen is still being built.Should I consider changing to a classic III to get the slow roller? Can that be freestanding or does it only come on a cart? I'm on the fence about which Kamado Joe to buy and was wondering which option you would prefer: having 2 Joe Jr.-s or one Classic II? The thing is that I mostly cook for my family of 4, but in the summer we do regularly entertain guests and need something that can handle up to 8 people. As I see it, you can get up to 3 Jr-s for the price of one Classic II, hence my thinking 😊. I have been finding your videos very informative and like you style. Keep it up, James! Great video. My wife and I just bought our house in fall of '19 and I have a tiny Kingsford mini portable charcoal. Slowly talking her into the vicinity of the Joe line in price, but I also kinda get one shot. We have quite a few house projects that need doing. It's only us two, no kids, and I didn't host lots of people with frequency (in "the before times"). My experience is with a classic weber bucket 22". I've tasted a friend's BGE cooking and I'm enthralled with kamado capabilities. I'm just not sure anymore if I should go for the classic 1 (on a hell of a sale at lowes right now) or a Jr and hope she let's me upgrade later 😅 or wait, budget for a classic 2 or something else. This is all very new to me. I would welcome your input.

The Jr. is the great value, but the classic is just more grill in every way. I knew that the Big Joe was going to be #1. I have ceramic Kamado and Weber Summit Kamado. They are both excellent but the Weber I love the most (cooks just the same as a Ceramic, better air flow, lighter, won’t crack, half the price of a big Joe, you can get the temp down quicker if it overshoots, it burns for up to 50 hrs at 225 and you can easily quickly go 800f plus- it’s brilliant). I’ve even got a Big Joe half moon grate option in that Summit and a Classic Joe cast iron grate which gives a very large divide and conquer set up, plus you have the GBS system. Out of all of the Joe range it would have to be Big Joe for me as I need that space, you quickly get used to it. Joes are very nice kit.

However, I have a credit card that has a points award system and I'm able to get a Classic I that's usually listing for $799, and I can use my award points and get it for free! So I'm wondering what if any accessories I would need to add to the Classic I to get it tricked out to come closer to the Classic III? its very accurate .... for where it is. every 6 months i suggest calibrating it as heat cycles and weather can work it out of accuracy, boiling water and a screwdriver will fix that quick. The dome gives you a good general temp of the cook chamber, dropping your grids to the firebox its not going to give you an accurate idea of the temp as your food is sitting directly above the live fire so you need to incorporate some common sense along with the information its giving you

It's also pretty small, so you can't do any two zone cooking (say, doing meat and veggies at the same time). I'll turn to my Jr. if I've got a couple hours to set up and cook my food and I'm aiming for smoky flavor. However, if I've got 30 minutes to turn around dinner, the gas grill wins hands down, so long as I remembered to fill up the tank :)
