No question the eGV70 in this test is better. But it's also quite a bit more expensive. Fantastic vehicle though!

Yes, John. The Genesis GV70 can be quite pricy. But you get so many features.

The Genesis interior is a winner. I have a feeling that really high speed driving BMW may have the edge. I'm not so sure about bumpy roads and bump absorption because both do well in that regard. This BMW looks last generation while Genesis is up to date. I prefer sedans but I think the GV70 has the best interior of all Genesis vehicles. Maybe not the most luxurious, that goes to G90. But the design is just so beautiful IMO. As usual, Charlie does a great job presenting and testing the vehicles.

the only issue I have when testing the GV70 was that the touch screen for the aircon/heating and heated seats etc was so small icons to press it was not easy to use when driving

Both awesome vehicles and I love BMW's more creative approach to design in recent years. Would personally go with the Genesis though. Gotta be my favourite luxury brand due to the elegance, craftsmanship and practicality. Now let's hope they release one those coupe concepts soon. 😉

The back is amazing. Front view not so much, it looks a bit generic to me. The BMW design, although old, has more 'weight' to it. It's subjective, both are amazing

Good job, Charlie. I've been waiting for your eGV70 review. There is no question that eGV70 is a better car than iX3 in terms of value, design and performance. Although these 2 SUVs are both converted from the ICE models, the eGV70 can contain most of the e-GMP specs. What an engineering effort by Hyundai/Genesis.

Very good job Charlie. You are the best reviewer on youtube. Opiniated but very fair towards all brands. Hands down to the Genesis. BMW has been off track for a few years now. I am 65 now. Gor my first BMW 320 when I was in my late twenties. Liked so much that I drove it to 200,000 km. Switched to the first Mercedes SUV in my late thirties than to Audi S5, Q5 late 40’s. Test drove the GV70 2 months ago and was flabbergasted. Ordered the GV-60 right away. Getting it in about 2 months. In the meantime, driving courtesy (but paid for) G70. Best car driven so far, except maybe for the Audi S5. Koreans have very high standards for everything they produce now. Wether it’s tech, appliances, movies, K-pop. Very impressive.

I'd definitely get the Genesis. When the BMW is comparably equipped, it'll be significantly more than $71K. The only issue is Genesis is failing on naming their SUV's. EV70 or GE70 both sound better than eGV70.

Great job Charlie, put my deposit for the GV70 2.5 Prestige unfortunately it’s a long wait. Hoping to have it before the end of the year. As much as i would like to go electric with either the GV60 or the Electrified GV70 the range has a little to be desired and acquisition is gonna be tuff. Hopefully by the time the lease for the GV70 is up I can go electric. Keep up the great work!

Owner of an electrified GV70, hands down the best vehicle I’ve ever driven. First SUV/EV big upgrade from what I last drove. Quiet ride extremely fast, and charges quick which compensates for the range.

I feel like these German legacy companies like BMW are depending too much on their name and status and missing the mark while noobs like Genesis is catching up to them in almost everything. I'll definitely prefer the eGV70...comfort and styling, they're winning.

German brands have been depending on their names since the 90s. When Lexus showed up, they laughed. Who’s going to buy a dressed up Toyota? Plenty of people would and did. They said the same thing about Genesis. Who’s going to buy a dressed up Hyundai? BMW, Mercedes, and Audi still think their name is worth the premium you pay. But people paying that much money want quality.

I was contemplating to buy GV70, but now seeing the eGV70 I'm pretty impressed. Wished the electric range was more. 300-350 miles should be the standard range with more EVs coming on the road. 250 miles will feel outdated later.

I am happy to saw a video with a real driven eGV70. Now I can't wait to preorder this excelnt car. Your question about the driving sound: If I want to hear a motor , I have to by a combustion engine. ;-) Best reguards from the Switzerland

the look of the vehicle is slowly becoming one of things people make a final decision, and i just love what Hyundai is doing in general with the designs of the vehicle, both in and out. The BMW here just feels pretty standard and not much more. So for me, the GV70 would be my pick if i had the money XD

Great review and comparison. I prefer the eGV70 and hope to order one when they become available in Canada. One question: since the battery is under the floor, how does the interior floor level compare to the gasoline model? Is it a bit higher so that your legs would be higher and possibly less comfortable?

There a hump in the middle, but it's really small, so it's nothing to worry about. Yes, sitting position is little bit higher (i couldn't notice it, but that's what Genesis says), so you won't notice the difference. Thank you Ronald.

Typically it’s a comparison between their origins but my interest is how well they implement the EV interface and managed the weight. I do like BMW putting Apple Car Play navigation on the heads up to avoid dated maps or subscriptions. Great topic💯

A no brainer Charlie, the Genesis, the interior is gorgeous, the stuff you get with it, a lovely car. I really like the boost button on the Ev range, Not sure about the plastic front end, surely they could have done something better, actually why not keep the grill of the GV70 and have it blacked out just behind the silver grill. Only downside I think but what do I know !!! But honestly I will only buy an EV when the range gets about 400/450. Well done Charlie. A

iX3 doesn't come to Canada. The i4 40 and 50M does. And I haven't seen any information about the GV70 EV yet. How does the price compare to the i4 50 and Kia EV6 GT line top trim? Thanks for the great video.

Starting to see more and more Genesis on the road. In 10 more years they will be a super popular brand and then that will be when they will also be priced out of many peoples budget. I know they are now as well, but if you want top notch Luxury in a vehicle that can match BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Lexus without paying those prices, now is the time to strike. Not to mention these vehicles make people look, nobody looks at a BMW driving by. Do you hear that SNOBS, Nobody looks at you anymore in your Benz or what ever brand snob car you drive.

Well, here in my Swiss golf club the ‚in‘ cars now are S3XY, but I am totally accepted with only a Kia EV6 AWD that has better performance than most EQE, Audi e-Tron 6 or BMW. But Genesis is just classy and more luxurious and hopefully they bring also the convertible soon. There is nothing from Europe at that level and with the new BYD Supercar it’s game over also for Porsche, Lamborghini and Ferrari. On the quarter mile the EV6 GT already let them look old. So the potential of the E-GMP in all classes is amazing and also Genesis will be in the premium market in Europe sooner than any Lexus or Infinity who more or less failed over here! While actual German cars, especially BMW with their pig nose and boring design lines, are out the Koreans lead now design of iconiq cars also from the past with very different interpretation good for emotions. After years of Box cars looking all the same more or less, a new era just began and is also different from what China is out for and that together with high end technology (800 Volts and up to 240 kWh like Porsche or e-Tron GT but at one third of the price). So I am with 54 years of ‚premium‘ cars experience for the first time proud to own a product from Hyundai Group!😎🇨🇭

Genesis only has I believe two fully functional stand alone dealerships, so they're getting way ahead of themselves with their pricing of late. Most people in the US aren't even aware there's a Genesis brand at all. There's a lot of badge snobs and expect luxury dealership experiences. That's not going to happen at a Hyundai dealership. In summary, right now Genesis is considered a sub luxury brand. Personally, I think they're a full fledged luxury brand, though they better get dealerships up asap and pricing can't be greater than a brand like BMW or even compete with the Acura RDX.

My first time watching your channel..may Genesis be the reason, even tho I'm a Black Puerto Rican German (mutt).. I just don't feel the German brands maybe except Audi.. because I never had one but had Maserati, Jags, Benz n Beamers, Caddies n Lincolns.. never had Nissan or Infiniti don't think I would be interested in them either..but Kia, Hyundai & Genesis are doing some great stuff, need their own dealerships but good (customer) service etc but I think 🤔 I will subscribe the content was good keep up the good work

In Europe (as well as in Korea?), the GV70eV is the much more expensive car, by about 20k€, both fully equipped, and after dealer discount (Genesis in Europe: none). Wether that is justified by the dual-motor and nicer interior (BMW is too standard, and last generation), everyone has to decide for him/herself

Thanks for the very interesting review, can't wait for the orders to open for Electrified GV70 in Canada. Any word on towing capacity of both vehicles? On the gas GV70 it's 3500lbs, but the GV60 is rated at 5000lbs, so I wonder what electrification of GV70 does in that regard. I know pulling with this will will make autonomy melt like ice cream in the sun, but for a boat ramp at 0.5km from the cottage it would be a non-issue...😉

@@AsianPetrolheadIt was announced that it will be built in Alabama with the first cars coming off the assembly line in December, so unless Genesis plans on exporting some models built in South Korea before that, it's unlikely I'll be able to get my hands on one before 2023... Gives me time to get home chargers installed in the meantime! Thanks and regards!

I wish I could buy a Genesis in Portugal, unfortunately it's not available yet. Therefore an iX3 may be my next car yearly next year. After that may be a Genesis 🤞🏻

US spec Genesis does get heated rear seats and manul shades for the rear seats if you get the top trim.

US does not have ix3 yet. BMW America is only selling IX which is ix50 on the CLAR platform. Also, electrified GV70 is not E-GMP platform. Thank you for the video!

Nice win Genesis, ON PAPER. IRL will see if Genesis feels as luxurious inside as it looks in the pics. I know I wouldn’t be buying “luxury” with plastic in luggage compartment and wired Apple Car Play, that’s sure. It’s a real shame you did not do a convoy drive of the 2 vehicles to check the real range difference. Sth tells me the single motor BMW will go further

Charlie … any idea when the GV70 EV is coming to USA? I like no sounds but if I were to turn on sounds it would be the e sound. IMHO, the GV70 has a more luxurious feel over the BMW. 👍🏻

Hi guys, I will be suprise to see Genesis VS Bmw Ix3 in the snow ! BMW Xdrive is working verry well in north America to drive in winter seasons *

Both are great, but with recently design, the Genesis GV70 looks great! thanks for enjoying our EV shootout comparison review.

Very promising vehicles unfortunately for me, I would go for an electric vehicle with a minimum range of not less than 300miles or more. I make a lot of road trips and the 231miles of the GV70 and 213miles of the BMW are not going to be enough. When I do road trips, I would need to charge most of the time.

Hi Antonio. I think the Genesis GV70 EV will reach EPA of 300 miles when it gets launched in US.

I guess it has to do with the battery placement.

You have to be very brave to order the all white interior lol

I like the Genesis better better range more horsepower better styling better interior.. I absolutely hate the rear end design of the BMW super ugly.

According to Korean media eGV70 will arrive in US market at this year December

Ok bmw....you've done an iX3, time to do an iX4!! That's a better shape for an EV, it's a wonder why they didn't do that first.

I bet, 98% of the People behind the comments, didn‘t even touch the Genesis or the BMW. The iX3 is excellent balanced for a Rear Wheel Drive with that Weight and Type of Car. The quality is superior to anything in this class except Mercedes. The Genesis is far too expensive compared to the German top dogs, which are already overpriced themselves. Four-wheel drive versus rear-wheel drive is also not a fair comparison. I drove a Mercedes EQC in comparison, which the Genesis, with all due respect, can't keep up with. Even the massive iX feels better to drive. Just try it. Try it out, go to the nearest dealer. With a valid driver's license you can get all these vehicles. There is nothing mysterious about it! The look is a matter of taste. The exterior of the car is nice. The interior is just too much for me, sorry, wannabe Bentley, without being able to do it properly. I much prefer the kia ev6 instead! a really great car! Finally, I should mention that I really like Asian cars! I've had Toyota, KIA, Mazda. And Genesis also builds nice and good cars! But in this price range, no one beats BMW, Audi or Mercedes. It's not enough to pack a lot of horsepower and all-wheel drive into a car and then say that you've beaten the weaker-engined, rear-wheel drive BMW. The iX3 is very efficient for a big car, with enough space for a family, its packed with a lot of big Specs, like a constantly high charging Curve, a top notch navigation system with excellent voice control including charge planning, the perfect Matrix-LED Headlights or, if you want it, the outstanding intelligent Laser-Light and many other important Details. If you have already driven all of the cars mentioned, sometimes for a few days or weeks (or you own one of them), then the bottom line is, that german cars are extremely hard to beat! Offen it is a lot of details, not so much the hp, but almost always the quality, the complete package of driving performance, which is extremely difficult to ignore. Greetings 🖖🏻

Genesis has no reputation. What real buyers actually buy versus the fawning in the comments are two different things. Would you actually put £65k in an unknown brand with no reputation? I am a buyer in the market. I looked at: Kia EV6, Tesla Model Y, Audi Q4 eTron, eTron, and BMW iX3. Once you drive the BMW and experience the quality interior materials and practicality, it's an easy choice. I ordered the iX3 this week. Good luck to Genesis, happy to look at them in 3-5 years when they've developed in the market.

Wrong on range, I have a UK iX3 and am getting 240miles range on average (cold and warm weathers)

Thank you for sharing Phil. Just like combustion engine cars, EV cars will return different range depending on driving situations.

Compare it against the BMW iX nor iX3.

iX is much more expensive.

hard pass on both for me... My first EV will be 2030 ... I'll let everyone else pay the premiums for EV usage and battery replacements until the tech platform has stabilized. Just like iphone/samsung iterations you'll see mucho improvement over the next decade via iteration.
