Which is the best LCA for your MK7 GTI or R? (Verkline unboxing)

There are lot of options to get more negative camber and caster. LCAs are one. I take you through the different options and compare some different LCA. We also unbox my new Verkline LCA.

Great video! Wish I had seen it before purchasing my arms. I went with aftermarket alloy arms which have been great, might have gone for the cheaper tts option if I had known.

Went to a salvage yard, pulled passat LCAs and spindles. Got both sides all included $100. Bought new hardware. Had to grind a bit off the caliper mount points to handle my ALCON calipers but overall fit was fine. Could have gone TTs but didn’t want to have to change ball joints and like the steering geometry I had. Have whiteline LCA mounts and spindle bushings. Everything else is on poly mounts with a full subframe collar. Reference coilovers with camber plates. Low investment with great returns. Decided to put adjustable rear uppers on and took care of the rear camber.

@@trackhackau These are a straight swap. Thicker due to material, but just need Passat caliper bolts to compensate. The TT-RS spindles are supposed to affect control arm height from what I’ve read, but don’t have hard evidence to that.

Best one in my opinion, as a daily driver that is poised when you want it to be but won’t tell the wife anything is different - the whiteline kta262’s. I had 252’s and suoerpros and the extra castor is so nice, even just how it feels through the wheel and the confidence in fast corners is brilliant. Not tired verkline tho, so now I’m interested but not quite enough to try em!

  • @trackhackau

The 252s are nice. Was a solid setup. Problem with 262 is you can’t run a very wide wheel without rubbing heaps. But in the end I’ve learnt you need to embrace the rub :) or you’ll never get the alignment you need.

I believe the noise mine made was actually pad rattle. But I don’t get it with the TT arms. Kinda miss the Verkline now. Have been thinking about putting them back on. Time heals all wounds I guess.

@@trackhackau I crave good steering feel and when you talk about it being so good that makes me so excited. I don't think any amount of noise will bother me enough if the steering is that great. Will certainly never be as good as a classic sports hydrologic rack. But I’m confident this is the best we can make it. Will be keen to hear your feedback.

Way to go extreme...cant wait for the road test..suggestion..maybe good if you can summarise the info..weight, camber and caster changes..perhaps price also.....am on superpro LCA, stated as adds +1° caster and -0.5° camber; how much are they for verklines ? Are your considering verklines subframe next ?

Honestly nothing is super essential. But pads, fluid and decent tyres are highly recommended. After that more Neg camber up front and stiffer rear swaybar would be my picks.

They will increase negative camber as they are longer with the adjustable ball joint. It will widen your track by about 10mm and depending on how much neg camber you want, you may need to use longer tie rods.

Hey! Great info I've done all these mods on my MK2 Leon Cupra years ago and it was a different animal. Now I'm interesting in doing the same on the MK8 GTI Clubsport. Do you know if the Cubsport S spindles and the TT-S lower arms will fit the MK8? Thank you

So I believe the MK8 CS pretty much had the parts from the Clubsport S. So you may not need to change anything. How much camber do you have from factory? I do believe the knuckles are interchangeable but im not sure anyone has tried.

@@trackhackau Thank you very much for the reply. The thing is, I don't have the car yet. :) I have to decide between MK8 GTI ClubSport, Type R FK8 Facelift and maybe the 2018 Cupra R, from which I could only thestdrive Type R. I used to run some timeattack on my old Leon Cupra, DSG converted, AST5300 3way coils with camber plates, APRacing brakes, Quaife, all the TT-S spindles and LCA's, polibushes, TTE480 turbo with forged internals and a lot more... Now I'm 41 and for sure, I need something more civilized for everyday usage in which I could still do 1-2 trackdays per year. So I started the research online about 2 weeks ago, that's how I've find this super channel full of useful information about the MQB platform. I hope you'll find time for new updates, maybe testing some Federals FZ201, they are almost slicks with E mark, great sidewalls, way faster than the CUP2 and they last until the very end...but heavier (not for Miata's) 99.9% procent (from what I was able to dig) is that only the TT-S, Clubsport S and the Leon Cupra R (2018 limited edition) have those knuckles. They say that the Clubsport sits 15mm lower, it has some harder rear shocks and a bit more camber (they never stated how much) What I could find it is that it has -1.2 camber: "The next most significant alteration is the negative 1.2 degrees camber employed at the front. It's a geometry chosen by Leuchter because, in his words, "you can attack the entrance of each corner more" and "better feel when the tyre reaches its limits". It's aggressive for a road car but not the maddest setting VW has used in recent times, with the old Clubsport S set at -2 degrees. Same goes for the progressive steering rack tuning: it's a quicker 14:1 from centre, but matches the Mk8 GTI's overall ratio (2.1 turns lock-to-lock), to keep the car easy to place at high speed. According to its makers, when combined with new control arms and firmer damper bearings, the Clubsport's final setup improves steering feedback, too" The good thing is that I'm in no hurry and useful information will surface about clever OEM upgrades for the MK8 Clubsport (TCR direct replacement). I may jump into the unknown and buy the Type R, from what I read might be faster and more room in the back for the kids, but if I go for the GTI for sure I'll get the knuckles, thanks for sharing the part numbers. :D
