    Think youre pretty spot on with the Alphas being better for lighter riders. Being around 140 lbs, I dont feel safe on Magnums on open roads. Havent got to try any Cuei thane yet, but this video has put a bug in my ear/wallet

    265lb/120kg here. Yet to try 88s or Cuei, have done back to back runs on Alphas and Mags. The Alphas definitely handle better but are slower for me, and the sheer amount of roll speed of the Mags is mega beyond words. Excellent video!

    Amazing video Abuga! Just for your information I did some statistical tests on your data and with similar results to have some confidence on the diferences you shoud be looking in doing 4 runs per wheel to have diferences between Mav and the others. And to have confidence in differenciate Cuei from Magz from Alph, the differences are so small that at least 10 runs per wheel shoud be performed. But yeah it’s super difficult to have that many consistents runs, controlling all variables and such… And aint nobody got time for that 😂😂 Thanks for the video!

    Good stuff, watched the entirety! I would want to mention that the 80a Cuei A1 have allowed me to do things I have never been able to before at Maryhill. Really nice top speed and acceleration on them for a low grade road. Exceptional edge grip as well - but brakes not so good for the 80a. 80a Cuei A1 is my goto wheel for any light slide/no slide course.

    I've tried Alphas and Mags out of these, and personally preferred the Alphas. I'm about 170lb and the mango 75.5mm Alphas felt very intuitive into and out of slides and allowed for some dynamic line changes. Alphas felt more like they grabbed and hooked through a drift into a turn a bit better than mags, which felt easy to drift but had a faster feeling slide that felt like it wanted to continue straight rather than hold an edge through a turn.

    Hi, always great videos! i subscribed your channel (and learn a lot with you) after seeing a S1 Helmet Video "Year of the Ox" ...I was thunderstruck! changed my life...and here started my passion for downhill/race. I buyed the 88 Maverik Pro but i'd like that all the wheel manufacturers adopt a standard core like the Kegel of Maverick Pro...i'd like test the Venom Magnum or other top wheels...i hope one day. Thank for your great work.

    Great comparison video-thank you. Had purchased the 76mm Venom Cannibal with Cobra core prior to video. Stoked on immediate increase of 1.5 mph (2.4 kph) and working on pushing/kick start. Just got my noob PR of 35.9 mph/57.44 kph. Definitely noticed less vibration. At some point - need to work on stopping/sliding instead of jumping off the board😆.

    This is a helpful video, I've probably watched it 4 or 5 times now. What wheels would you recommend for me? Most of my fast downhill runs require no drifting except to stop at the end and sometimes have pretty rough pavement. Most of my technical hills are not that fast but have really tight turns you need to slow down for. I'm leaning toward Alphas or Magnums, but maybe the cores on the Alphas would not absorb the rough roads? I ride red KRimes now and love them but want something a little bigger, wider, and grippier.

    I’m super intrigued that your Alphas performed that well. I’ve used the AH Plum Alphas and was really disappointed with the grip and braking force. Granted, my set was 1.5 years old before I actually began breaking the skin. I wonder if the aging deteriorated them. They were only used on grip runs. I’m thinking I need to give a fresh set a try, or perhaps borrow a friends’.

    I think 1,5 years are not that long, 10 years or longer might change the performance. Depends of course how u storage them maybe too? But it's also up to u spot, set up, weight, temperature, style and more. Did u got the 75,5mm too or 80,5mm? The 80,5mm are more narrow, so less grippy but higher top speed/slower acceleration

    Yo! Stoked on this type of video. Stoked to hear about the confidence inspiring Cuei! I also experienced a feeling riding Magz where I felt like they had to be skated a certain way and be properly understood to perform at their maximum, but that might not be attainable by the average bear.. Hearing that the MaVs were for free riding I was not surprised, as for the alphas, with so many different urethane types and duros it sounds like there is something there for anyone trying to get the most out of that wheel. At the end of the day burning urethane going downhill at your top performance of gonna put all these wheels in the same ball park. Turns out none of them are a step above. Hmm.. where is that one God tier race wheel?

    Hi dude, looks like a really nice review and good comparison of each wheel. For acceleration comparison probably the bigger 80,5mm would have be a better choice? Pretty sad that they doesn't send u a set. They wanted to send me some bushings month ago to test, but never happen. I tried mags and alphas so far(heavy rider over 100kg/220lbs). Alphas feels fastest acceleration, probability a bit less grippy compare to mags for me. Mags felt i gues because of the width, like a train/more stable and fits good if u prefer outside lip wheels flush with deck, because they add around 105mm to width. Alphas max. 90mm(depends on version of course. Got some 88 wheels mavericks pro and classic hopefully can test them soon, but yeah they them to be bit more slidey, but also pretty smooth what i like and not chunky, compare to mags and alphas. I guess the current pros are not that high rebound formula maybe? But i saw a video they are making some pros focus on grip in 72a with a slightly changed formula. Nice job man, skate safe bro🤙

  • @downhill254skate

    @downhill254skate

    11 ай бұрын

    I think the 80mm would have been better, potentially the fastest of the bunch, especially with the stiffer lips ... Man idk what changed in the formula but the current Mav pro aren't as special. Not as high rebound as before. Still a decent wheel though

  • @Beardboarder

    @Beardboarder

    11 ай бұрын

    @downhill254skate yeah probably the fastest, but probably with smaller CP and stiffer lips, less grippy. Maybe the new 72a ones will be closer/simular to the old protos. But I doesn't need that high rebound formula, I prefer no/less chunks and smooth slides. But I guess for races it would be of course better. The durability of the protos sounds great. We will see what 88 will bring out soon. But I probably also will get a new set of mags next year

    Alphas are my favorite open road wheel. But for racing they are not viable at all. Maybe if you are under 75kg, because of how easy it is to ride them. But the grip difference is huge and they cannot compare at all to Magnums and cueis. There's a reason why magnums have been the only wheel on top riders board these last few years. They have been the best, grippiest and fastest wheel on the market. The a1s however seem like they can compete. The real question is are cueis a1 better than magz, or are magz still nr1?

    I can say that cueis haves more acceleration than mags, but you have to be a hard pusher to move cueis generaly, and yeah the cueis are more gummy thank magnums, I think that it is cuz the width of the core, mags is widder so take more strong part than cueis, so cueis will feel quite slushier but lot of grip... cueis 75a highly recomended for technical races and the 80a for more straights (personaly Ill stick to 75a)

  • @downhill254skate

    @downhill254skate

    11 ай бұрын

    I agree. They accelerate just as much as any wheel once you get in tuck, but that push is soo important. I think if I had to pick one it would def be the 75a also. I think the pushing thing might be a problem in qualifying, but in an actual race heat I don't think it will be a problem. Also when you get the chance, test the momentum retention. See how much speed they keep when not accelerating, I'd love to hear your thoughts
