Hi everyone, in this video we have tried to discuss about the perks and drawbacks of applying for PhD through CSIR/UGC JRF and GATE. I have also shared the ground reality of fellowship availing ease for both categories after joining institute, based on my personal experiences.

    There's also one more doubt, TA's have to give some 8hrs per week for institute work right, like lab assistant or something, right? But JRF's have no such constraints, they can focus solely on their PhD work, right?

  • @PhysicsUntethered

    @PhysicsUntethered

    2 жыл бұрын

    You're right. But most of the institutes have this clause in their PhD rulebook that the 8 hours per week will be allotted to each PhD scholar irrespective of their fundings. So, Yes, JRF qualified should not be allotted the work, but institutes frequently do this, and one cannot complain as one signs agrees to those clauses while joining PhD there.

Kuch central universities me khud ke written exams hote hain phd k lie, but fellowship bahut kam hoti hai

  • @PhysicsUntethered

    @PhysicsUntethered

    Hi. So, GATE and JEST are equivalent in terms of funding i.e. if you get institute through jest, institute will have to fund you, similar to gate. Jest is mostly accepted by research institutions and may be a couple of IITs ( I'm not sure about IITs). Otherwise most of the institutes will take only through gater, jrf or Inspire fellowship holders.

Generally govt and private universities bahut kam stipend deti hain. Csir ugc jrf me fellowship tumhe csir/ugc deti hai directly, uss case me tum kahi bhi join karo tumhe 31K per month milegi.

    Aman sorry to say...few informations in your video are really misleading! 1st of all none of the top institutions of India except IISERs prefers NET JRF over GATE, or JEST! I did not have NET JRF but still I was selected in almost all top institutions of India. The wrong information provided in your video 1)IISc called upto JRF Rank 26 this year but upto around 35-40 Rank from GATE. I with Rank 31 got call and was also selected(waitlist). 2)IIT Madras had almost equal number of NET JRF and GATE students this year. I was also selected there. But yes if you want to do from ''any'', literally ''any" institutions then JRF is better.

  • @PhysicsUntethered

    @PhysicsUntethered

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi. Thanks a lot for pointing it out.Gate rank 31 is really good to get many calls. I may have said some wrong numbers and I apologise for that. But at the same time I would like to add some points to it 1) IISc physics department surely had cutoff of around 35 for gate, but subfields of it such as High energy , astrophysics etc had pretty higher cutoffs (top 10). Physics department alone doesn't cover all major fields of physics there and therefore one has to apply according to area of interest. 2) For IIT-M, the rank cutoffs list wasn't published as I can recall. The shortlisting there was done probably on SOP and available funded projects it seems, and therefore it was pretty uneven. But for few top ranks, all got the calls. The iit cgpa cut-off which was around 8 last year was increased to 9.5 for IITM this year. Except few of institutions such as old IITs, most of the remaining IITs preferred JRF. There are a lot of candidates who weren't selected in these institutions. If we look at the big picture of all the IITs, and many research institutions (not all of them), we can realise that it's a bit safe to apply through JRF than GATE. For one instance, IIT Indore only took JRF/Inspire candidates, or IIT Mandi had gate cutoff of around 90.

  • @mohammedsrivastava5917

    @mohammedsrivastava5917

    @@PhysicsUntethered exactly, what I am trying to say. Any top institutions like Old IITs, IISc, Research institutions like HRI SINP IMSc RRI does not give any preference to NET separately. TIFR(Mumbai) does not even call from NET. All these I am talking are some top institutions of India. My point is bring Rank under 100 in any of the exams like NET GATE and JEST and then rock the interview. I have seen much of good rankers can not get into those institutes because of giving poor interviews.

    Hi Ganapati. This must be so frustrating. Atleast you got to know that they are rejected in a month. A senior of mine waited for 3 4 months for first fellowship after sending documents, and when he didn't recieve the response and enquired about it through calls and mails, then CSIR told that there was an issue with visibility of some signature or text ( I can't recall the exact reason). So he had to apply again and that took about couple of months to activate his Fellowship. P.S. he has completed 12 months and has only recieved fellowship for 2 months. :(
